Bonnie Prince Bob standing against Angus Robertson in the constituency as a very left wing Indy candidate looking to address Edinburgh social issues and the impact of the BTL and Festival economy exploitative business model. If you are like minded then you may well judge the best approach is to send a signal by voting him in the constituency, even at the risk of it turning Tory because 2 votes SNP would just hand the Tories the seat via the List anyway. Then it is a straight List choice between Alba and SNP and Kenny MacA plus the boxer would likely be persuasive

Bonnie Prince Bob is a vile individual- the absolute worst kind of whinging "well balanced" Scot with a chip on each shoulder.

StatisticallyChallenged · 30/03/2021 20:04

I'm not terribly familiar with Bonnie Prince Bob - can anyone fill me in? (obv I know he's standing against Angus)

MissBarbary · 30/03/2021 20:14

Here is his incoherent and inarticulate ranting about the Fringe and the Festival having no relevance to Edinburgh or Scotland. A "little Scotlander" of the worst kind

WouldBeGood · 30/03/2021 20:18

Another intellectual giant enters the fray 🙄

WouldBeGood · 30/03/2021 20:19

Why are these Scottish politicians so so thick?

WouldBeGood · 30/03/2021 20:19

There are lots of clever Scots but we never see them

With the way success is equated with exploitation of the poor and evil intentions in Scotland, its hardly surprising that clever Scots keep quiet, is it? And certainly on the internet, where ridicule is standard.

So the type above predominate. This seems to have become a thing of late - control the property market, reduce holiday lets, make the Festival more xenophobic - how do these people have so much power? It seems a surefire way to turn a currently successful Edinburgh into the slums of the past.

StatisticallyChallenged · 30/03/2021 20:58

Thanks MissBarbary

"run by cunts, for cunts" is a brilliant line (not commenting on the veracity, it just made me laugh)

I mean, he's got some valid points - AirBnB has hollowed out the city centre as a place to live and is becoming a real issue in some place for example and needs to be addressed. But he takes some valid issues and just comes across as chippy.

There are indeed many clever Scots but a large proportion of them are beavering away in private industry or academia and wouldn't consider entering the political sphere.

Cismyfatarse · 31/03/2021 09:26

I didn't watch the debate last night but heard enough on the radio this morning to suggest it brought nothing new to the front of the campaign.

I am finding Ross strident. Sturgeon knackered and Rennie dull. Sarwar did well it sounds like and managed to be on top of his brief -- although I am not a natural Labour voter.

Any thoughts on his constituency fight with Sturgeon.

OhBuggerandArse · 31/03/2021 09:32

Any thoughts on his constituency fight with Sturgeon.

I think designed to produce photo ops and talking points rather than a serious challenge, but it might do quite well at that. Would be good to hear what someone in the constituency thinks though!

StatisticallyChallenged · 31/03/2021 10:15

I think his constituency fight is interesting, purely because it will be a distraction. They cannot take the risk of her losing the seat so they will need to campaign hard.

I know she has a big majority but Sarwar is a local I think and I've seen a fair bit of sniping about her never being seen in the area so they can't just ignore it.

Graffitiqueen · 31/03/2021 10:38

It's a bit of a high risk tragedy for Sarwar given he's second on the list. Will be interesting though. Given the ethnic makeup of that constituency, him being a local man and anger over sturgeons lack of action in the constituency he is in with a shout I would say!!

StatisticallyChallenged · 31/03/2021 10:56

Didn't realise he was second on list, although I suppose adding the constituency seat doesn't matter from that perspective.

It's definitely an interesting one to watch.

WaxOnFeckOff · 31/03/2021 11:04

I think sturgeon is also 2nd on the list and historic voting would make her more at risk? SNP don't usually get many list seats due to success in constituency. I'd like to see him do well. I think he comes across with pretty genuine emotions.

30 percent higher spending in Scotland due being a UK member.

'Replying to
@TheIFS
Temporary COVID-19 cash is being used to fund permanent new spending on free bus travel, school meals, grants to councils, mental health, and maybe some of the NHS pay rises.

Paying for these from core funding in future means a bigger squeeze elsewhere.'

Craziness for a party that wants to cut off this funding.

Yes, of the two her list position is actually more volatile
SempreSuiGeneris · 31/03/2021 12:05

Labour has 4 List seats in Glasgow so 2nd on the List is not much of a risk. Even if he doesn't unseat Nicola it seems reasonable to expect his vote share to increase not just in Southside but across Glasgow.

Alba would need to be picking up almost all SNP and Green List votes to change this. Maybe NS and AS will bury the hatchet yet. Who knows?

SempreSuiGeneris · 31/03/2021 12:11

NS could only pick up a List seat if the SNP lost multiple constituencies to Labour without bleeding List votes to Labour, Conservatives, Alba and Greens. Probably much less likely than losing her constituency seat to Anas in the first place.

StatisticallyChallenged · 31/03/2021 12:16

Yes I think the risk is basically that Sarwar manages to run a really strong "local lad" campaign - such things have happened before. In which case Sturgeon would be up shit creek as SNP taking two Glasgow list seats is highly unlikely

WaxOnFeckOff · 31/03/2021 12:24

A smart and easily justified move from Sarwar. He is in a decent position either way and as long as he picks up more labour votes than incumbent, it will not be possible seen as a loss if he doesn't win it and he will most likely have a seat regardless.

Ianrankinfan · 31/03/2021 12:54

riverrunning I agree with you . ... to use the Covid money to fund permanent spending commitments eg extending free school meals and bus travel , for example , is madness as these will need to be funded eventually from the core budget . We will need higher taxes to pay for this and /or more cuts.

Graffitiqueen · 31/03/2021 13:22

I'm sure I read somewhere that the person at the top of the list would likely have pressure put on them to step aside in favour of Nicola if it ever came to that. Think the person top of the list is one of the Glasgow girls and Nicola fan so likely to comply.
