That may backfire if any of her own stories come out.

I see Wings' burner twitter account has been suspended. Cui bono?

Like Brexit, independence appeals to the disenfranchised. People want something different and they are all projecting their hopes onto it without adequately considering the detail. They just want different, any different.

Like Brexit it can never satisfy everyone.

I agree with this @Graffitiqueen

Line with Brexit, I question what exactly will be better, and how? And how it will be funded.

@WouldBeGood

It’s not just one tweet.

I don’t agree with cancel culture, but I think someone who wants to be elected to govern people should not hold those views.

I do agree, actually. Had it been just the 1 ill judged or badly worded tweet, it's harsh to lose an opportunity due to a twitter pile on.

I really wish people would be more aware of the implications of their many brain farts ending up publicly platformed for all to see. It's the disappearance of a filter for many that seems to be induced somehow by social media, that baffles me most. If you would be embarrassed to say it to someone's face, it's not a great idea to post it online where it stays forever (even when it's deleted).

What happened to this from her earlier interview?

“Sturgeon says: “The good thing about [Salmond] now having his own party is I don’t have to spend much time talking about him or thinking about him any more.”

I agree with this. Everyone has their own idea of what independence would mean and how it would be run and funded. So arguments that x would be impossible/ very difficult can be batted away because x could be done like this. Ignoring the fact that if you did that, you wouldn't be able to fund y... But someone else would prioritise y at the expense of x which isn't important to them! It's the £350million on the back of a bus all over again.

Despite the SNP being cast as very pro- Europe, apparently 38% of people who voted snp in 2016 (SP election) went on to vote leave (about the same as Scotland as a whole) - though plenty of them then defected to the tories in the 2017 GE. So the whole argument that brexit and scexit are two different beasts and all true nationalists are longing to rejoin the EU doesn't really wash imo. I can understand both arguments, to be honest (ie why it's better to be part of the EU or not as an independent country) - but there is definitely a discussion that is worth having rather than a kneejerk "we'll rejoin as soon as we can" regardless whether they would want us.

StatisticallyChallenged · 30/03/2021 14:01

Yes, Scotland was 38% brexit which isn't a trivial proportion which can be easily dismissed. There's also a discussion to be had about what EU membership would look like for an independent Scotland, because it most likely would not be the same as being in the EU as part of the wider UK. I don't think the majority would fancy a full border with England for example.

WouldBeGood · 30/03/2021 14:04

What did Jim Walker tweet about NS and then take down?

ATieLikeRichardGere · 30/03/2021 14:05

I think it was “what a cow”

reprehensibleme · 30/03/2021 14:05

Also, Scotland had 38% vote for Brexit with the added disruption of the SNP arguing that if Scotland voted differently to the rest of the UK it would be the material change required to trigger another indyref, so how many people in Scotland who would perhaps have voted Leave during Brexit, actually voted Remain in the hope of triggering another independence referendum. (Sorry, bit convoluted but I know what I mean Grin)

@Blurberoo that was the ban of his previous incarnation ages ago - this was a new suspension for his alternative account.

That one seems to be back now with a slightly adjusted name - he is now Ghana Tourism Advocates rather then Ghana Tourism Authority, so I guess someone was reporting him under the impersonation rule.

(We're not supposed to read him of course in case he might say something disagreeable).

@OhBuggerandArse He was banned for sharing GC stuff in the Ghana account as well. Lots of TRAs piled on I believe.

Ah, OK. He seems to be back now anyway, though VERY CROSS (it was ever thus).

(Sorry, bit convoluted but I know what I mean Grin)
Ha! Yes, there was that. But then there were also people voting leave on the assumption that Scotland as a whole would vote remain, so if leave won (which their vote would help) it would trigger a referendum on Scotland bring pulled out of the EU against its will. cunningly avoiding the fact that their vote would make Scotland seem less remain-y than otherwise. No, I don't understand that either, but it was an argument Grin... probably based on the premise that the UK vote would be more remain-y than it actually was.

And yes, some discussion on what EU membership post brexit would look like is definitely needed, rather than the assumption that Scotland would be welcomed back with open arms and it'll all be like the olden days.

Also, I didn't realise GTA was wings. I really need to be thrown out of Scotland... I don't have a clue who is who!

SempreSuiGeneris · 30/03/2021 14:25

Anyone a Leo Kearse fan?

He is standing in the constituency against Humza on a single issue platform against the HCB and in defence of freedom of expression (under the banner of Laurence Fox's Reclaim Party).

Also of interest. Bonnie Prince Bob standing against Angus Robertson in the constituency as a very left wing Indy candidate looking to address Edinburgh social issues and the impact of the BTL and Festival economy exploitative business model. If you are like minded then you may well judge the best approach is to send a signal by voting him in the constituency, even at the risk of it turning Tory because 2 votes SNP would just hand the Tories the seat via the List anyway. Then it is a straight List choice between Alba and SNP and Kenny MacA plus the boxer would likely be persuasive.

Even Glasgow's SNP led Council have made official comments similar re begging gangs and slum landlords in particular operating out of Govanhill (Nicola's constituency right next to Humza's).

I see an Aberdeen SNP councillor and Brexit supporter is the latest defector - standing in the NE List.

OhBuggerandArse · 30/03/2021 14:31

I think keeping Angus Robertson out is a worthy objective for independence supporters, given all that's gone on, and everything that will continue if he gets into Holyrood. There were very few votes in it last time, and the Greens are running in the constituency again - I think AR will have more of a difficult time of it than he bargained for. Last time I looked BPB was doing better in the crowd funder than AR!

Joanna Cherry would have walked it, I reckon - wasn't Edinburgh Central one of the highest percentages of Remain voters in the UK?

Blurberoo · 30/03/2021 14:45

Yes I doubt Robertson would have been quite so happy to be parachuted in if he’d realised the level of disquiet amongst the electorate! Could be quite a humiliating experience for him. Not that that seems to overly bother him.

I think some local party members made it pretty clear, but he (or Central Office) thought he could override their better judgement.
WouldBeGood · 30/03/2021 18:31

So.. Jim Walker tweeted “What a cow!” About NS.

He’d also tweeted that Ian Blackford is a “pathetic little man who’s not fit to tie Kenny MacCaskill’s shoelaces”

Classy lot, on both sides.

Bytheloch · 30/03/2021 18:38

pathetic little man who’s not fit

I’m in agreement on this point.
