They are massively experienced and articulate opponents to be up against, that is all I am saying. You don't have to like them. Formidable does not mean admirable.

WouldBeGood · 27/03/2021 13:34

He got three years in jail.

I followed it at the time. All very sleazy indeed and his treatment of women involved was despicable

titsintiers · 27/03/2021 13:34

Talking armpit 😆😆😆😆

I loathe him and everything he stands for.

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/03/2021 13:36

I dunno, formidable could definitely apply

"inspiring fear or respect through being impressively large, powerful, intense, or capable."

The three of them would definitely be very intense and whilst I don't see them attracting much respect from SNP I wouldn't fancy them on the opposition benches. Salmond's a knob but he's a good orrator and a very seasoned parliamentarian who knows how to debate and would be quite capable of making verbal mincemeat out of many SNP politicians. Can you picture, for example, Salmond vs Humza on the HCB?

titsintiers · 27/03/2021 13:37

Salmond would wipe the floor with Yousaf

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-12280552

Tommy Sheridan was jailed for 3 years, served one year in Castle Huntly (an open prison castle in Perthshire) and was released on a tagging order.

This is getting more and more grim for women in Scotland by the minute. It really is crazy stuff.

Does anyone think people will be reading about this in 100 years time thinking how unevolved the people of Scotland were in the 2020s to let this sort of stuff go on amongst their politicians.

How come cancel culture never seems to affect men like this?

Oh yes. Salmond and his little psuedo-theatrical mid sentence pauses. Very fake.
Blurberoo · 27/03/2021 13:40

Tommy and his mum both got hacked by the NOTW and gave evidence during the whole hacking scandal. The whole swingers thing destroyed his party (I believe he mortgaged off their HQ to pay legal fees?) and created lots of bitterness with lots of falling out and the creation of RISE.

Blurberoo · 27/03/2021 13:42

It could certainly liven up the debating chamber! I’d like to see Kenny McK taking on Humza for sure.

WouldBeGood · 27/03/2021 13:42

It’s true he was hacked. But he brought the defamation case knowing he was lying.

WouldBeGood · 27/03/2021 13:43

@GreenlandTheMovie I remember when they obviously all went on media training in the olden days and started. That. Peculiar. Way. Of speaking.

McCaskill too.

Blurberoo · 27/03/2021 13:45

Yes he created lots of enemies amongst the left there, especially women. He’s of the old school shouty man leftie although his mum Alice is a well known feminist

WouldBeGood · 27/03/2021 13:49

He sacked Donald Findlay and Maggie Scott in his cases, two of the top QCs.

There’s a pattern in these lot, and their contempt for legal advice.

fandabbydoozy · 27/03/2021 13:53

I just think of his wife describing him as a gorilla and now every time I see or hear him I am just grossed out.

I think the alba party misdirecting websites were created by snp supporters. I agree, amateurs not to buy every domain

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/03/2021 13:54

Because they're men, with the hyde of a rhino and a big enough voice to not care about being silenced by those who use cancel culture. I don't think they care if Twitter or the Guardian cancel them. It just rolls off them

MissBarbary · 27/03/2021 13:58

I don't know how anyone can seriously think getting the deceitful, misogynistic
convicted criminal that is Sheridan back into Scottish politics can possibly be a good idea.

It's a sick joke.

WouldBeGood · 27/03/2021 13:59

The cancel thing is interesting.

Is it a Scottish thing with these two? Kind of institutions?

Charisma?

Just that they don’t care?

Has he actually joined them or just stepped down from AFI? Keatings did join but I've not seen if Sheridan actually has.

I think it would take an ego like Salmond's to truly test the reach/power of the force of social media fuelled cancel culture.

I'm conflicted about that too. I'd genuinely like to see someone rise above the bullying mob mentality that cancel culture inflicts, but not sure about Salmond being the 'ideal' beneficiary.

I see Party Ecksit is fielding 2 convicted criminals - although Craig Murray will obviously be ineligible if he gets a custodial sentence. (If not already ineligible, which frankly convictions for contempt of court and in Sheridan's case, perjury, should make them ineligible)

Happinessisawarmcervix · 27/03/2021 14:08

@WouldBeGood

😂😂I couldn’t take that!

And more of his positioning as a simple crofter, not millionaire merchant banker.

@GreenlandTheMovie yes! Dear god. I’d bet that Blackford owns a tartan cape thing too.

That was a kick in the teeth to Charles Kennedy, wasn’t it - who actually was from longstanding crofting stock.

Kudos to The Daily Record for its accurate headline!

Conveniently (and amusingly) his sentencing hearing is the day after the election I think. I seem to recall you're only ineligible if it's a sentence > 1 year too but I might be wrong.
TheShadowyFeminist · 27/03/2021 14:12

Are both Murray & Sheridan standing for Alba though? They all stood down yesterday & I've not seen anything saying they're candidates for Alba? Unless I've missed something 🤔

Murray is eligible as he hasn’t been sentenced yet - appreciate this is dancing on pinheads - also the sentence has to be for more than a year.

A man who actually named some of the complainers was sentenced to 6 months so it will be interesting to see if Murray gets more.
