That's two and a half weeks since the rangers thing so we should be seeing hospitalisations based on that by now, if we're going to?

Would say another week at least most people who go to hospital is after several days of being unwell at home and it takes on an average of 3-5 days to get symptoms from exposure.
latissimusdorsi · 24/03/2021 17:37
@HadEnoughOfBears I guess they won't know if it impacts on hospitalisations/deaths for another wee while. They should be able to inform the approach going forward using the data they can gather linked to those cases over the next 2-3 weeks surely though.
Yeah that's a thought. Primary school kids likely to have parents in a younger, low risk age group. grandparents will have been vaccinated. interesting to see if there's any difference in hospital admissions in 2 or 3 weeks time.

UnderHisAye · 24/03/2021 17:40

Surely it matters though, given that most parents haven't been vaccinated.

My colleagues friend died of CV last week, she was 42. 42! Same age as me.

I know it's rare. But it happens.

It's not just that though. The parents of those kids don't have to isolate but could be spreading it asymptomatically through their workplaces and shops they visit etc. There are still a very hefty number of over 50s and 60s still working and unvaccinated.

latissimusdorsi · 24/03/2021 17:56

If the kids are positive the parents should be isolating!
There's asymptotic testing centres opened in Livingston so no-one linked to those schools should be unknowingly spreading Covid

UnderHisAye · 24/03/2021 18:16

Yes if the kids are positive, but not if they're isolating; they could easily be asymptomatic or presymptomatic.

UnderHisAye · 24/03/2021 18:18

97 positive cases reported at Dundee Uni today.Shock

It's really obvious now that this strain is more transmissible I think.

latissimusdorsi · 24/03/2021 18:23

Wasn't there a party at Dundee uni recently?

Trumplosttheelection · 24/03/2021 18:36

Yes there was a party. The uni are going really ott with the sad and disappointed emails as well. My child is there and really fed up with the tone tbh. Obviously less than an ideal that there was a party but what do you expect when you take away so much from young people. They've had a dreadful year.

Trumplosttheelection · 24/03/2021 18:38

And they are doing loads of testing, really pushing everybody to get done whether they admit a party or not Grin
So will defo be picking up old cases on pcr as well as new infections.

Awful! I'm so sorry to hear this. It really does give me the fear.
UnderHisAye · 24/03/2021 18:57

Brings it home eh?

Well certainly no sign of it so far
forfucksakenett · 24/03/2021 19:22

@UnderHisAye it really does. It's just awful.

Scottishskifun · 24/03/2021 19:30

There is a big problem with our test and trace in that it's not robust enough it's only direct contacts not contacts of contacts like in countries where they have got numbers mega low.

When there was a positive case in my sons nursery bubble I found it bonkers that my DH and I didn't have to isolate. We did anyway as it felt like the right thing to do but we also have very understanding employers!

Pootle40 · 24/03/2021 19:34
@user1487194234 personally I don’t give a shit about cases. If the hospitals are ok. And I think most people really think that
100% agree. And I air those views publicly

forfucksakenett · 24/03/2021 20:12

@Scottishskifun I agree with you. I will admit I've not had any direct contact with them but a friend did and when I asked what the track and trace people did I was very disappointed. I had hoped it would be more thorough.

GreenlandTheMovie · 24/03/2021 22:45

I see that the Scottish Government has lost yet another case before the courts today, this time before the Court of Session.

The court ruled that the criminalisation of worship under lockdown was unconstitutional, disproportionate and in breach of human rights.

"Lord Braid said: 'The fact that the regulations are backed by criminal sanctions is also a relevant consideration."

'Were the petitioners to insist on manifesting their beliefs, in accordance with their religion, they would be liable to be met with a fine of up to £10,000, a not insignificant penalty."

'The above factors all point towards the conclusion that the regulations have a disproportionate effect.'

WouldBeGood · 24/03/2021 22:55

That’s a great result @GreenlandTheMovie. Hopefully will cause ripples

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/03/2021 23:45

I wondered if that might set a precedent for other organisations that were forced to close?

fluffyugg · 25/03/2021 07:16

Did anyone hear JS speak about schools yesterday? Press reporting that he said there's still uncertainty about them returning full time? 🙄

forfucksakenett · 25/03/2021 07:21

@WaxOnFeckOff

Not unless that closure was a breach of human rights.
Rae36 · 25/03/2021 07:35

'Did anyone hear JS speak about schools yesterday? Press reporting that he said there's still uncertainty about them returning full time?*

No I didn't hear that. It's not a surprise to me tbh but we'll all be devastated if it's true. We're at the end of what we can cope with here

Lidlfix · 25/03/2021 07:44

Well I planning my lessons for a full return. It's not like they've changed their minds at the last minute before Grin

rookiemere · 25/03/2021 08:10

If they roll back from full schooling, presumably they'll need to close hairdressers, travel through Scotland and opening of non essential retail. Or was it a horrible trick to get the economy open, then shaft schooling when it's too late to close the other things?
