Thanks @Scottishskifun
Seems a bit bizarre that we're a house full of positives but completely unaffected when you've been so sick. It's all a bit surreal.

Yeah it's completely pot luck! I did see some videos that some people have super antibodies naturally against it as well but people obviously don't know!

My DH has had very mild symptoms and my toddler has slept a bit more but no temp, cough etc. It is a very strange illness I hope they do research into what makes people respond a certain way as that would be mega useful for future too so you can target vaccination programme boosters. I don't think it's even as simple as if you have a medical condition. My asthma is so mild I hadn't used an inhaler for nearly two years prior to this, my friend with worse asthma then me had covid and no symptoms!

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 01/04/2021 12:06

Hope you remain symptom free @Rae36. It's not that uncommon I don't think - latest estimates are around 20% of infections being asymptomatic, and I think this proportion increases in children. I think this is exactly why it's not feasible to completely control COVID - there will always be quite a large proportion of people with absolutely no outwards signs of it. If immunity wanes as it is expected to, and the virus continues to mutate at the rate it already is doing to escape immunity, it's kind of inevitable that it will always be with us I would have thought.

UnderHisAye · 01/04/2021 12:09

Hope that continues @Rae36 exactly the same happened to me friend. Her husband was a close contact of a colleague, they all got tested, and them and their four kids were all positive!

There is an asymptomatic testing centre near us, this makes me think we should use it.

ResilienceWanker · 01/04/2021 12:15

Nightmare rae. So sorry to hear that! Hopefully you still all stay well though. Scuppers any non-essential but entirely council-based outside jollities you may have had planned over the holidays though.

Glad your chest is feeling a bit better today scottishskifun, and hope the fever buggers off. It is so, so weird how it affects some much worse than others.

But, yes, with that kind of spread, from people who had no way of knowing they had it, there is no way this virus is going completely! Sneaky bastard.

Coquohvan · 01/04/2021 13:20

That’s a shame @Rae36 hope you all recover quickly. Our SIL tested positive however no one else in a family of 5 caught it from him. 🤷‍♀️ We had it were mid 60’s felt rough & high temp for a few days.
Watching the news and appears a lot off positive cases aren’t quarantining. Our T&T stats are so shockingly low.

But then we'll be stuck forever in lockdown because we'll be uncovering all these cases that were probably always there but never counted before.

It's really time to break the link between case numbers and restrictions if we're counting all these asymptomatic people.

Although I suppose one asymptomatic person could infect someone who ends up really sick.....

Scottishskifun · 01/04/2021 13:38

Yep I agree @rae36 lock down shouldn't be based solely on infection numbers.

SG keeps saying numbers are too high etc etc actually we just know more about the numbers with increased testing

Mistressofmany · 01/04/2021 13:48

That's kind of the whole point isn't it, if it affected people so mildly they had no symptoms it wouldn't be anything to worry about, other than the risk that the next person they infect would not be so lucky.
I've noticed testing places opening up around me now. Seems very late in the game really! I don't know if they do the PCR or lateral flow though.

Mistressofmany · 01/04/2021 13:50

...have just answered my own question by googling. They are symptomatic testing centres so would be PCR tests.

I don't really think that way. I would like the kids to be able to go to my parents next week for a sleepover as they're bored shitless, and it would be good to know they're not taking the virus with them.
UnderHisAye · 01/04/2021 14:08

1.8% test positivity today! That's got to be the lowest in a long time.

dancemom · 01/04/2021 14:18

• 400 new cases of COVID-19 reported
• 25,956 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results – 1.8% of these were positive
• 8 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive
• 21 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
• 215 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
• 2,493,327 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 399,062 have received their second dose

Numbers looking much more promising

hilbil21 · 01/04/2021 14:59

Oh these numbers give me hope. Thanks @dancemom

I think it would be good if the speedier lateral flow tests were more freely available for situations like this. I know they're less accurate and I guess the powers that be don't want to encourage false reassurance but they would be an improvement on nothing and I think lots of people would use them sensibly.

UnderHisAye · 01/04/2021 15:03

Yes, I agree.

I don't really want to put them through it unnecessarily, so I'm thinking maybe if I just do it, then that's a big hint that they don't have it either. I would totally have done it already if it were as easy as me doing it at home.

Replays · 01/04/2021 15:17

Dumb question - do the numbers in icu get included in the hospital figures?

I know each individual must be pretty unwell but 215 seems nothing, and surely on flu levels for spring if not lower?

I was just looking and Travelling Tabby has the total in hospital as 215, with 21 in ICU and 'others in hospital' at 194.

These are great numbers! Must be close on a record of approx 75k jags in a day! Fingers crossed it continues. And the cases/ hospital numbers look to be coming down nicely too.
SempreSuiGeneris · 01/04/2021 16:36

Scotland has over 10k total hospital beds so 200 or so is indeed trivial.

Scottishskifun · 01/04/2021 19:38

So another SG u turn this time on unaccompanied children having to be in mandatory hotel quarantine........

Was it just me who think it reads like another aspect which wouldn't stand up in court so they have reversed the decision..... It seems to be based around right to have a family life.....

Glad that they have reversed it but surely it shouldn't have to come to potential legal action for them to do the right thing for separated families?!

rookiemere · 02/04/2021 11:20

What's everyone up to today?

It's nice and sunny in Edinburgh and I'm recovered after having a ropey day post vaccination yesterday. We had our outdoor exercise this morning and DCs were allowed to come along. Obviously too cool for school DS 15 didn't come - he's not up even now Wink- but it was absolutely lovely to see the younger ones running about the woods together, doing what DCs are meant to do.

Still puzzling if staying in your city boundary is now guidelines rather than law. The scot gov website has left me none the wiser as I thought there might be some detailed documentation behind their patronising road map - basically if you're in doubt about something don't do it . I know people are saying that police are unlikely to stop and fine you, but don't want to take that risk, but would so love a drive to Longniddry Bents, Gullane or North Berwick for a change of scene. We've been restricted to our city boundary since late October I think it was, with a brief respite for Christmas Day and "care" trips to DPs in Perth.

SempreSuiGeneris · 02/04/2021 11:30

I'm off to the supermarket. Hopeful everyone else will have thought of better things to do now the rules have "relaxed". Way behind schedule despite the postman getting me out of bed on my designated long lie day. Been drinking coffee and lounging to make up for it so I don't notice my 18 year old also doing absolutely nothing.
