Still can't get my head around us having the worst infection rates in the UK with the strictest lockdown. English schools have been back in full for 3 and a half weeks! I did note that we have a significantly smaller proportion of the population with antibodies though (maybe because of slower vaccination and lower natural immunity because of the restrictions?) so maybe we just have more work to do to get decent herd immunity. I also wonder if the less healthy population in Scotland is now relatively even more unhealthy due to restrictions preventing people getting outside in the sun, and instead staying in and eating too much (or maybe that's just me...)

LookAChicken · 31/03/2021 18:50

It cannot have helped on a population level.

I'm out of puff far too soon nowadays.Blush

UnderHisAye · 31/03/2021 18:56

@RaspberryCoulis

I'm in the 45-49 age group so next in line for the vaccine. Omni calculator confidently predicting i'll get my first jab sometime between 5th April (this monday coming) and 13th April.

I'm not holding my breath.

I just saw NHS Tayside say they'll be posting out letters to 45-49 year olds in the next few weeks so fingers crossed that's it beginning.

It just makes me feel like there's no end to this. I'm being a drama queen I hope/think.
RaspberryCoulis · 31/03/2021 19:08

On the plus side, I heard from my mum today that she and my Dad, who are both in the 75-80 band, are having their second jabs tomorrow.

LookAChicken · 31/03/2021 19:17

Good news!

Me too, why do we torture ourselves.
hilbil21 · 31/03/2021 19:32

These are the tests carried out. England obviously keep theirs secret lol Grin

For the depressed looking at stats. Worth noting that our cases may be stubbornly stuck but our hospitalisations and deaths are not higher than E&W per capita. In line with my theory that Pillar 1 drives positives and Scotland has been more consistent and thus efficient at testing at this level.

The ONS antibody and infection level surveys have very wide confidence intervals for Scotland and a much shorter time run of data so not convinced they are significantly different. Also there is a lag in the antibody data of about 5 weeks during which time Scotland has been doing quite a lot of vaccine catch up.

Excess death day today. Scotland reports a week ahead of England. Our negative excess death figure was slightly better than E&W's figure reported yesterday on a per capita basis (100 versus 900). Figures today for Scotland are still below 5 year average but by less.

What is really really concerning is that non-covid deaths at home are still
over 100 per week in excess (roughly 35% elevated). The impact of this becomes ever more apparent as Covid deaths diminish.

hilbil21 · 31/03/2021 19:51

@SempreSuiGeneris Thank you I need someone like you to talk me down. Lol. X

latissimusdorsi · 31/03/2021 20:13

@SempreSuiGeneris that's really concerning about the non Covid deathsConfused
People still can't get to see a doctor? Too scared to go to hospital?

Haudyourwheesht · 31/03/2021 20:49

I phoned my GP for an appointment- with no enquiry about what I needed the appointment for I was given a phone appointment for 10 days later. Yes, I could maybe have pushed for something sooner, but thankfully didn't need to. Others who need to maybe aren't assertive enough to question the authority of the receptionists, and so things are being missed.

fluffyugg · 31/03/2021 21:08

@SempreSuiGeneris that is so worrying re non covid excess deaths. How awful 😞

WouldBeGood · 31/03/2021 21:17

You can only get a (phone) appointment with my GP practice now by ringing at 8.30 for appointments that day. I just can’t face the 300 ring back necessary

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 31/03/2021 21:18

Our GP is also still very far from opening normally. They are doing emergency phone triage only, with the possibility of seeing a Dr if they deem it necessary after speaking to you on the phone. The feel is very much one of stay away unless you really need to speak to someone. You are to decide if your issue is an 'emergency' and I can see that a lot of people would decide that that niggling cough or fluttery chest or whatever probably isn't that important and put it off.

Coquohvan · 31/03/2021 21:31

Not depressed here @Sempre thankfully. It’s a stat I take note off and has been higher for a while. Our vaccine stats were higher for a time then slipped well down, now crawling up 0.1% daily. The hospital and ICU numbers are down as are deaths which is a sign for positivity. Would like to know if the cases are coming from outbreaks in eg factories etc or community transmissions.
We are getting there, sometimes it seems time goes so slow.

Scottishskifun · 31/03/2021 21:52

Your going to be waiting a long time for that data to get released!

Because they can't 100% for definite say (as full backward tracing isn't conducted) they won't release it.
At the moment its both but more small outbreaks than is advertised! But it also depends on what you class as community transmission..... I include schools in a specified outbreak for instance not community.

Perihelion · 31/03/2021 22:45

I would have thought that some of the higher rate of deaths at home would be due to more people opting for end of life care at home, than going into hospital or a hospice. I did hospice at home for my mum, pre-pandemic and would imagine it would make it much easier for relatives and friends to visit, compared to being an inpatient.

Scottishskifun · 01/04/2021 08:09

[quote UnderHisAye]Glad to see Moderna will be available where it's most needed first.

Yep the 3 places which are most behind!

latissimusdorsi · 01/04/2021 08:18

@Scottishskifun how are you feeling now?

Rae36 · 01/04/2021 11:43

Head spinning, my entire family have just tested positive.

Ds9 got tested on Tuesday after a positive case in his class. His test came back positive on Wednesday. We all got tested on Wednesday and got 4 positive results back this morning. Me, dh and 2 teens.

Seriously? We don't have a single symptom between us. No headache, temperature, funny taste, lethargy, stomach upset, not a single thing.

The original case in ds's class had no symptoms, was only tested because his parent, who also had no symptoms, got a positive lateral flow test at work.

So that's 3 asymptomatic cases in their family and 5 in ours. 8 positives that wouldn't have been picked up at all a few months back when close contacts weren't advised to get tested and routine lat flow tests weren't a thing.

So far we're the only positive we've heard of from the class so I guess it's possible one of us picked it up elsewhere and the class connection is just a coincidence. But if it hadn't been for the other parent's work test we would never have known.

I went to see my elderly gran last weekend, I sat by her bed and held her hand. I can't believe I did that and now am positive. Hopefully I wasn't positive last Saturday, I have no idea.

Slightly speechless.

I guess we sit and wait now to see if anyone coughs. Can't go out for 10 days, luckily there's nothing to do in the holidays anyway.

LookAChicken · 01/04/2021 11:47

Oh Rae, sorry to hear you are confined to home but glad you aren't showing symptoms.

Scottishskifun · 01/04/2021 11:50

@latissimusdorsi lungs are better but still in bed ill fever isn't under control still.

@rae36 highly likely you weren't contagious when you saw your Gran so try not to worry.
Hopefully you will all remain symptom free I can recommend getting an oximeter for peace of mind if you do develop symptoms. It's been a big help for me to show the Dr and also understand what makes the levels worse and what improves them.
