Exactly @Haudyourwheesht I’ve broken the rules once to cuddle my grandchild.

But DH & I with other family member's will soon be helping our DD & SIL with preparations for opening their privately owned gym. The grants they have been given barely covers their business bills and some of their personal ones. We are in a fortunate position to help them financially get through this last year, many business owners are really really struggling.
For example July 5th last year hairdressers opened Gyms and others in their sector didn’t open till 30/9 shockingly they were 3 mths behind. Thankfully this opening up is only 3 wks behind, but still 3 wks income lost.
So dusters and mops at the ready. Roll on 26/4 can’t wait to get back to my happy place.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 30/03/2021 15:02

I don't get it. The trends for both deaths and cases are going down, and both are similar to the levels last October. But now we have vaccines! the vast majority of the most vulnerable have been vaccinated.

So why are we still locked up?

I think she also was asked about the higher prevalence in an area, and she said it was 'outbreak driven' and I heard prison mentioned. (I was working and got distracted so this may not all be gospel Grin

So if there's a prison outbreak driving numbers up somewhere, and there's 31 historic cases added to today's number, what actually IS the prevalence in the community? Very low.

I mean, there were 22 cases in Fife. 22, in an area with 375,000 people.

I have been all for caution throughout this, and I've defended their decision making a lot, but now they seem to have thoroughly caught the fear.

latissimusdorsi · 30/03/2021 15:15

Ah that makes sense. We had lot of cases associated with couple of schools in Livingston last week but I notice numbers very high further west in West Lothian and that's where the prison is!

This is the info we really need to know

rookiemere · 30/03/2021 15:15

It's the unintended but easily foreseeable consequences that get me.

Open nothing but garden centres and forbid people from leaving their LA that they've been locked in since October in most cases, add in Easter holidays and where the heck do you think people are going to go ?

Of course it will be mostly older folk who have had a vaccine over three weeks ago so shouldn't push up the infection rates massively.

Exactly. So many people moaned about the daily briefings, but things like that are the reason they were so useful.
rookiemere · 30/03/2021 15:26

It would be easy enough to include a few bullet points with the daily numbers to account for any unexpected variations, doesn't need a daily address for that.

Flossy05 · 30/03/2021 15:32

Hospital numbers and deaths are down but presumably they don’t want the virus to circulate in the unvaccinated population as this increases the chances of a variant emerging that could escape the vaccine. I am assuming this is why we are still ‘locked up’.
Also, if the virus becomes too prevalent in the unvaccinated, schools will have a lot of cases, kids will need to start self isolating and some schools may be forced to close again. It seems to be never ending.

latissimusdorsi · 30/03/2021 15:37

To he honest they RARELY give info on outbreaks. Aberdeen pub crawl and couple food processing factories, that's been it really.
If asked Gregor gives a load of waffle which says nothing!

rookiemere · 30/03/2021 15:38

Strange that England or Wales with similar numbers doesn't seem to have the same concerns @Flossy05

Icannever · 30/03/2021 15:39

She said today that police would still be fining people who go outside their local area and you can’t travel anywhere until 26th April (if things go well 😬) she also said from 26th we could travel in Scotland not anywhere else (even though we have the highest rates just now)
Also said hopefully schools will be back in full but depends on numbers so nothing new there
On a positive note today I am very happy I live in Fife for once 😀. Eldest is at surf/kayak club every morning this week and is loving it. He’s never wanted to go to any clubs before so I’m really happy this is available and he’s enjoying it. Sorry to mention this for anyone far away from a beach. We haven’t got much in the way of decent takeaways or shops if it makes you feel better

latissimusdorsi · 30/03/2021 15:39

Wales have always played it pretty canny. Until now

Icannever · 30/03/2021 15:40

I must admit to missing the briefings as well. I feel there’s not enough information anymore and all the news is about the election campaign

rookiemere · 30/03/2021 15:44

@Icannever I feel grateful that Cramond and South Queensferry are within Edinburgh council city boundaries. I love walking or running near water, even if our attempt to walk from Hopetoun to Blackness didn't quite work out - I miss Blackness so much.

hilbil21 · 30/03/2021 15:45

We were planning to rebel and go to England second week of Easter hols but decided to wait till the last weekend in May which is a long weekend and go down then instead, I thought it would be allowed by then.... why am I starting to get the awful feeling it STILL won't be allowed lol.

Flossy05 · 30/03/2021 15:50

Yes, agreed @rookiemere, they don’t seem concerned about this in England and their schools seem to have gone back without incident as we wait to see if ours can return. I am desperately looking for some possible method to this madness! I don’t think there is any Confused

rookiemere · 30/03/2021 15:52

@hilbil21 we're the same postponed from Easter to second weekend in May, although just checked and managed to book accommodation for 2022 by mistake.

TBH if it's not legal by then we're still going I've read up on the exceptions and I'm sure we can invent one.

Bytheloch · 30/03/2021 15:53

She said today that police would still be fining people who go outside their local area and you can’t travel anywhere until 26th April

Except if you’re a politician on an election campaign. See also; as long as you’re mortified, you don’t need a fine.

Show me anyone from Police Scotland patrolling the council borders and fining folk. For what?

What a way to treat us all.

hilbil21 · 30/03/2021 15:55

@rookiemere Yeah I'm going to set up a property viewing if it comes to it!

randomsabreuse · 30/03/2021 16:05

Seriously pissed off at the prospect of yet another holiday with sod all for 5 yo to do. We've got a few days of Tennis Camp but struggling for ideas for a 5 and 2 year old.

Doubt any council run activities will turn up until they've finished with the vaccines given where the vaccine centres are.

Wish we could get to a beach, farm park or just meet up with friends in not quite close enough counties to break up the monotony!

Scottishskifun · 30/03/2021 16:24

@latissimusdorsi

Yes this is true and also even the details given are vague not the full picture especially workplace based but they do have the details every 2 days from NHS track and trace and it feeds into incident management teams directly to the SG so they do know exactly whats happening. Its broken down into health care settings, education, retail etc etc (it's part of DH job) they just choose not to share it but they have all the info on a regular basis.
RaspberryCoulis · 30/03/2021 16:28

Stay local is meaningless.

If you live in Wester Ross, your local Tesco / car dealer is in Inverness or Dingwall.

Scottishskifun · 30/03/2021 16:32

Yep I live in Aberdeenshire which is huge I can drive for 2 hours and still be in the LA whilst friends in the city go bananas!

Most people are now doing 5 miles as the crow flies for walks into the shire when you get the maps of the boundary line people can get surprisingly far.
I live by a beach and it's more than 5 miles but people don't really care anymore tbh and I don't blame them escaping the city!

latissimusdorsi · 30/03/2021 16:50

@Scottishskifun Hmmm choosing not to share the information makes me think there's a lot of cases associated with hospitals! Which I've always suspectedHmm
