I can't stand JS ,he is so in effective,to be fair I tend to ignore everything he says as it tends to get countermanded the next day.

Feel so sorry for the school children who have had no proper education for a year.

Surely the SG should be able to spell out what the rates need to be before X happens

Of course if thye are aiming for the mythical zero Covid then nothing good will happen

Scottishskifun · 25/03/2021 11:33

I think if you ask the majority of parents of secondary school children at this point would you send your child to school full time with measures in place but it's not guaranteed that covid is fully eliminated from the school but we will apply the control measures we can most parents would send their children.

I make the same decision sending my DS to nursery continously since June and even though my son is on second isolation due to a case in his bubble I have every faith that the nursery does everything they can do. But it's a virus at the end of the day and the only way to be 100% certain your not going to catch it is to become the bubble boy!
To me that's no way to live and not healthy for my child to have zero interactions or experiences despite the risk to me if he passes it onto me (I'm asthmatic and no vaccination yet)

The SwinneyBot message today is a bit of spin/veiled threat/mildly pooping themselves around Education action groups taking them to court (a la churches) so they need to position the system for flexibility/pivot post Easter holidays if needed especially if they are to appease the unions ahead of the election

See also; the NHS pay rise, announced at the 12th hour with a layer of covid spin on that too, but alas no time for debate or scrutiny in parl🤷‍♀️

This was just shared by a local playgroup. 🙌

WouldBeGood · 25/03/2021 13:03

At least that’s something @StarryEyeSurprise, though doesn’t help teenagers.

Hopefully the wee ones will get something (and parents then a break)

UnderHisAye · 25/03/2021 13:04

I'm properly laughing at this. Mike Oxsmells Grin I didn't get it until I watched the clip of him saying it!

Latest guidance on SG website recommends face coverings to be worn by all at all times at secondary school post Easter holidays so that's different to before lockdown. The rest looks similar

HadEnoughOfBears · 25/03/2021 13:55

Does anyone have today's figures?

UnderHisAye · 25/03/2021 14:01

Just checking the dashboard now but the page isn't loading.

The daily cases seem to be slowly creeping up don't they? Although the positivity rate is still under 5% thank goodness. I have spent the last year avidly monitoring the case rate daily but I guess as vaccinations roll out we will turn our focus towards hospitalisations.

UnderHisAye · 25/03/2021 14:54

Yes, I feel the same @trumpisaflump

Trying not to worry about case numbers as much as hospitalisations, but it's difficult as we've spent a solid year having case numbers drummed into us daily. And it still seems to be the measure by which the government makes it decisions.

forfucksakenett · 25/03/2021 14:57

I do genuinely think we'll see a switch in that approach post Easter. Once they have an idea of how it will transmit around schools (data which should be made easier by the LFTs) I think we can expect a switch to hospital numbers being the lever maybe by the beginning of May.

fluffyugg · 25/03/2021 14:59

Once again it would be really useful to know where the transmission is happening. Numbers have gone up quite a bit over the last week or two

UnderHisAye · 25/03/2021 15:02

The only specific outbreak I know of is 96 cases at Dundee Uni.

Haudyourwheesht · 25/03/2021 15:49

There are increases in West Lothian, aren't there? A couple of schools?

latissimusdorsi · 25/03/2021 16:13

Yes schools in Livingston affected by cases. Testing centre been set up for anyone without symptoms to get checked

Direct lift from Twitter, journalist Mark McLaughlin I asked @ scotgov why Scotland reported its highest positive cases in a month today I was told the answer was 'too political' during purdah We can't go on like this until May Somebody has to answer lockdown queries We can't sit around until they have their popularity contest
WouldBeGood · 25/03/2021 20:32

That’s outrageous @Bytheloch

latissimusdorsi · 25/03/2021 20:59

@Bytheloch Too political!
Hope that doesn't mean schools Hmm

WouldBeGood · 25/03/2021 21:00

Oh @latissimusdorsi I bet that’s it ... fuck!

ResilienceWanker · 25/03/2021 21:00

That is bad. However, on the good side, a month ago, when case numbers were this high there were nearly 1000 people in hospital. Now there are just over 300. And we had a 7 day average of 30 deaths, whereas now we have a 7 day average of 5. Things are still moving in the right direction. Says me with my positive head on.

fluffyugg · 25/03/2021 21:02

It's not really okay for us not to know what's happening. Everyone I know has done everything by the book for so long so it's pretty demoralising to think we're still not doing enough and cases are going up. Makes me worry about secondary schools after Easter too, really hope they don't go back on their word on that...

TeenTraumaTrials · 25/03/2021 21:06

There seems to be something strange going on today. I can't get the Tableau dashboard to load at all. Travelling tabby is showing a headline figure of 701 cases but the figures in the LA map don't come near 701 when you add them up. East/Midlothian and Edinburgh all showing as no cases which is not likely. I've been keeping a close eye on local cases through the Tableau neighbourhood tab and am missing my daily fix of reassurance as we've been suppressed for weeks now.
