I think the problem with regional (mainland) tiers that anywhere within 90 minutes of (say) Glasgow, especially by public transport with pubs open and serving would find people arriving from Glasgow to go drinking, which would just spread Covid onwards. I seem to remember quite a lot of chaos in the close in bits of Argyll and Bute (near Helensborough) during the first Glasgow lockdown.

I also was assuming that the islands get whatever the standard batch of vaccine is and work down the list until it's done, given the time between vaccines - same for anywhere with a smaller population - prioritising efficiency over "fairness" seems like a good plan to be.

I'm counting down the days to freedom from East Dunbartonshire - Easter holidays will be tough. Annoyingly we have season tickets so Blair Drummond definitely have our address! Maybe there will be some holiday sports activities outdoors, other than tennis which will be happening regardless!

hilbil21 · 19/03/2021 17:46

*Helensburgh. Yes at one point in the last tier situation there were a LOT of people coming down from Glasgow to eat and drink here. The businesses weren't turning them away either, or asking for proof of where they were coming from. Why should they to be honest? I'm sure they were just happy to be making money! Probably half the reason she's making us come down the tiers as one this time even though as it currently stands we are level 1/0 ish and have been for a couple of weeks.

randomsabreuse · 19/03/2021 19:20

Yep, inept spelling by me!

I guess the issue is that those most likely to ignore the travel rules are most likely to do other risky behaviour. If everywhere "accessible" is shut then no point travelling to spread your germs.

I'm using the same logic that dog shit left somewhere antisocial is very like to carry nasties as there is very little chance they worm their dog properly...

hilbil21 · 19/03/2021 19:42

As annoying as it is I think it's probably better for Helensburgh in the long run if we are all at the same tier. We shall see!

Wakeupin2022 · 19/03/2021 23:25

I am sure you will have quite significant opening over the next month or so.

Just as much as I'm sure that the border with England won't be reopened.

Whatever maximises the vote....

No, just being able to walk or sit outside with friends and family who don’t live on our doorstep would be a start.

You think people are more likely to vote SNP if they're not allowed to cross the non existent English border?

We have annual passes for the zoo and don't live in city of Edinburgh but have been. They didn't ask.
randomsabreuse · 20/03/2021 09:10

We have to book online even with the passes. Possibly the website saying only come if you're in Stirlingshire is all they do but the strop if we're not let in is not worth the risk!

What border? I can ealk into England as its so close. The A1 is open. No border checks. If you don't fancy the A1, there are approximately 136 other roads from Scotland to England and vice versa, not to mention numerous tracks and footpaths, none of which are closed or monitored. No one I kniw has been stopped and checked by the police even though crossing it several times in one day (for permitted reasons, obviously...) Grin

I honestly do wonder how little basic geographical knowledge yiur average central belt based SNP MSP supporter has about other parts of Scotland too. Sturgeon certainly seems fairly clueless about daily life for many people who live in the Scottish Borders.

UnderHisAye · 20/03/2021 10:33

Just checked my work email and some students had a party on campus, and now there are 40 positive people and many more isolating.

This is the problem with everyone thinking 'well the old people are protected so I'll do whatever I want'.

Now my city's numbers will skyrocket and that will probably lead to a slower down of easing restrictions.

Seeing so many people on threads going 'fuck Nicola I'm doing what I want now'. The cumulative effect of that in a percentage of people across the country is not good.

Scottishskifun · 20/03/2021 12:25

@GreenlandTheMovie I agree that chances of being stopped are slim but the travel goes both ways and without the removal of the restrictions tourism can't accept people from England until its lifted

To those who will say well who will know..........you will be amazed at the number of complaints the local councils covid teams recieve each week from "caring members of the public" reporting businesses (my DH does covid response). If they get reported to the council and enforcement is issued they risk losing their grants so they are stuck.

We will travel to England but will have our exemption reason up our sleeve which we have to do as my DH could potentially risk his job if we didn't produce a reason (we have several unwell immediate family members in England)

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/03/2021 12:32

There was a woman in her 80s who got a visit and a warning from the cops for having a cup of tea.

She has had her jag and had an outdoor cup of tea with a neighbour and was reported by another neighbour. The police turned up at 9.45, woke her up and gave her a warning.

This was in England and I don't know about you but I'm not sure if I'm angrier at the neighbour or the police in this case.

I mean there is rule braking and rule breaking. Party i think is fair cop but really, what is going through people's heads?

LizzieMacQueen · 20/03/2021 15:06

Just saw this news. Police officers caught covid 19, very likely from Rangers fans. Eejits (fans not police).

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/03/2021 15:23

Maybe they did, maybe they didn't - whatever suits the narrative. maybe it proves that masks are a waste of time? Maybe every time there is an outbreak at a workplace they all caught it by having a party outside rather than from indoors in a workplace.

I'm not a football fan so have no skin in this but I smell shite to be honest.

🧐 doubts it very much But important to find the story that matches- no pun intended- the ongoing restrictions to our movement.
ResilienceWanker · 20/03/2021 15:40

There's a nice new set of graphs on travelling tabby that I've not noticed before, of how the case numbers in each age group are changing. Recent increase in younger groups (especially young children - though that's not in itself too worrying I don't think, given how mild most of those are likely to be), but that hasn't spread through to the older vaccinated groups, which are still showing falling cases. Anyway, regardless of what they show they are nice and colourful Grin.

@GreenlandTheMovie I genuinely think this is a serious problem. The SNP is very central belt centric (I used to live in D&G) and they just don’t seem to understand how life works “down south”

WouldBeGood · 20/03/2021 16:54

@UnderHisAye people have had enough. Obedience is done. The vulnerable are vaccinated, people see that, and want normality back.
