@ssd

We are really behind England. I know I'd people in the 40-45 age group now getting the vaccine. In the North of England. My friend of 61 hasn't been done yet and dh 58 hasn't heard a thing. Its really bad. We are both essential workers who don't qualify for the vaccine, but are in our 50s and have heard nothing.
Think it depends where you are. We're in Fife and husband has his Friday and he isn't in a priority group.
Scottishskifun · 16/03/2021 07:38

Let's just hope they stick to their aim of 400,000 in a week!
I'm completely shocked at the micromanagement described by SG just let them get on with it and keep supplies coming not in a warehouse!

NS yesterday was giving excuses that at one point Scotland was giving most jabs per pop in Europe..... Great except now you're definitely not and centres are closed or lower staff!

Redact · 16/03/2021 07:50

I think it depends where you are in Scotland. I know lots of people in their 50's and younger in group 6, including myself, that have had their vaccinations. All key workers that I know personally have also had it.

UnderHisAye · 16/03/2021 08:05

Yes, I know people in Dundee and Fife who have had theirs, my friend is just turned 40 and got hers two weeks ago!

I don't know why there's such discrepancy by region but it seems to be the same in England too.

user1487194234 · 16/03/2021 08:32

We are behind England, and have been from the start
The whole system there is better eg you can book your own slot
This is not a trivial matter

UnderHisAye · 16/03/2021 08:56

Yes I can't understand why we can't book our own slots either. Crazy given all the tech available in the 21st century to be sending letters to people. The over 80s I can understand but the majority of the population have smartphones. Mad not to use them to speed this up and let people choose a slot that suits them.

Littlemissweepy · 16/03/2021 09:02

The JCVI top 9 are to be done by the middle of April. So they have 4 weeks left. In the last 4 weeks they seem to have got through most of group 5 (if that’s 65-69 year olds) and some of group 6 but not clear how much of group 6, I can’t find any data to show % complete of that group. Sounds like some areas starting on healthy 60 + year olds (group 7?)

Either way we need to get skates on on first doze daily rates.

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/03/2021 09:08

My 59 year old DH had his letter last week (but had already been done via NHS staff). I have family over 60 (different health board) that haven't been called yet.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 16/03/2021 09:15

Our vaccination programme seems to move in fits and starts whereas England's seems much more steady, which is a bit weird given that all parts of the UK get their dose allocations at the same time. It does mean that there are times when we race through (and NS is quick to tell us when we've got the highest rate in the UK) but also lulls where it's incredibly slow, although oddly NS never mentions that from her daily podium address 🙄. Overall though we have been behind from the start, although we caught up at one point only to fall back again shortly afterwards. I do suspect this might be at least part of the reason why our case rate has been the highest in the UK for the last week or so despite all English school children being back in full, as that couple of percent adds up to a lot of people.

UnderHisAye · 16/03/2021 09:27

I wonder if it really is that different or just that the numbers are so much greater than differences between region don't really make a blip in the headline numbers. I just found this info (attached) which shows aggregated data for over 60s per region. We are behind, maybe this next few weeks will close the gap.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 16/03/2021 09:57

Over 60s group breaks into 65-69, of which 97% have had first dose, and 60-64, of whom about 50% have had their first dose. I'm in that group and get mine on Saturday.

Littlemissweepy · 16/03/2021 10:01

Over 60s presumably also includes everyone up to and including the over 85s

RaindropsSplashRainbows · 16/03/2021 10:04

Yes Y0uCann0tBe vaccinating someone 2 weeks later will have an effect on transmissions / case numbers hence the rush to get vaccines in arms in more people by postponing second dose. I don't know why Scotland has consistently lagged.

Scottishskifun · 16/03/2021 10:11

I think some of it is down to the booking system. It takes 3 days to generate a letter and for it to arrive on the doorstep offering you an appointment for a few days time so at best a 5 day process reality about 7-10 days.

My parents in England in comparison recieved a text message with a code, went online and were able to book a slot 2 days later for my dad and 3 days for my mum, were able to choose vaccination centre and time.

We have had posters on here say there isn't much difference between letter and online booking...... I would argue that there is a big difference especially for the under 65s and that time lag is critical!

UnderHisAye · 16/03/2021 10:13

I registered as an unpaid carer online yesterday, and got a text within 5 minutes saying I'd hear within three days about my first appointment. So that all seems to be by text (although you can choose text/email/whatever).

randomsabreuse · 16/03/2021 10:21

Thing is that having an appointment assigned to you concentrates the mind while having the option to book is easy to put off if you're a bit ambivalent about the whole needles thing... like we all tend to put off dentist and smears until "convenient".

My impression of the English figures (and my Facebook friends) is that the more privileged, fit and active people in the priority categories are getting done quickly, especially using the big hubs further away but the total percentages are lower.

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/03/2021 10:37

So, the letter DH had gave him a link to go online and change his appointment. He went on to that to cancel, but you can't cancel online, you need to phone.

UnderHisAye · 16/03/2021 10:38

Maybe they don't want to make it to easy to cancel, to try to encourage uptake

user1487194234 · 16/03/2021 10:47

Its so disappointing that we are behind, might seem minor statistically, but this is real people who are at risk for longer than they should be.

And it all keeps the figures higher than they should be,keeping us all locked up for longer
The SG should be focussing on getting this sorted asap

UnderHisAye · 16/03/2021 10:52

To be fair they did say this week and next week would see 400k doses given. Will be interesting to see the daily figures though.

user1487194234 · 16/03/2021 11:52

Indeed
But any delay means more people will get it And we will all be under house arrest for longer
There have been delays from the start, surely SG should have got sorted out by now

UnderHisAye · 16/03/2021 11:55

Of course but we can't change what's done, so we're as well looking at what's happening now and in the near future.
user1487194234 · 16/03/2021 11:58

I am afraid I can’t take that attitude when people are unnecessarily being infected

UnderHisAye · 16/03/2021 12:00

Ok well good luck trying to change the past then 🤷🏻‍♀️

Coquohvan · 16/03/2021 12:08

Well SG will be judged on their passed.
England 38.9%
Scotland 37.9%
1% difference means 50,000 less Scots vaccinated
