Hard not had!

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/03/2021 10:43

I think many people don't yet realise how broad the interpretation could be and that will be the thing that the opposition need to get across. Many people won't even be bothered by the "in your own home " bit because they will be thinking "well I'd never use the N word even in private, so this doesn't effect me" without realising it could cover political discourse

Let's face it, how many women are in this position? Didn't pay much heed to tweaks and changes which have impacted on free speech because it was portrayed as being aimed at hate fuelled extremists, but have suddenly found that it's limiting their ability to talk

Graffitiqueen · 16/03/2021 10:52

@WouldBeGood

It seems there are a lot of men who dress as women, or are TW, are attracted to the SNP?

And, of course, cross dressing is now to be a protected characteristic.

Anyway, that aside, voyeurism the latest charge. It really all is the last days of Rome.

I wonder if actually cross dressing is more prevalent than we think?

There seem to be a lot of men aggressively pushing "trans rights".

Blurberoo · 16/03/2021 14:48

I think it’s because it’s a covert way for a certain type of man to lobby for ‘man’s rights’!

Link to Review of the Scottish Government procedure for handling harassment complaints involving current or former ministers

The review of the hastily drafted complaints procedure has been published.

Anyone watching David Davis availing himself of Parliamentary privilege?

RaindropsSplashRainbows · 16/03/2021 19:45

Missed him.

MuffinsandBrownies · 16/03/2021 19:47

Iain Stewart, Scotland Office Minister speaking now about dual role of Lord Advocate.

@SempreSuiGeneris

Anyone watching David Davis availing himself of Parliamentary privilege?
What was his chat?
TheShadowyFeminist · 16/03/2021 20:49

Link to Wings piece which has DD speech on the Salmond stuff

I know Wings is a divisive character but just linking as this links to the DD speech itself.

Pretty damning stuff - Ruddick text messages are referenced, Murrell highlighted as answering about his only known texts about putting pressure on the police etc as being out of character in his response to the committee, when the USB stick with messages DD has seen suggested the texts were entirely in character. There's also reference to FM COS interfering in the Civil service investigation in February, prior to the date she's apparently stated she knew about the allegations against Salmond. The removal of a key email by someone in the civil service. Seems it's a lot of the information that the committee have been denied access to. And there's also reference to Sturgeon's evidence to the committee as well.

Beepbeeprichie · 16/03/2021 20:50

Why can’t I see anything about what David Davis said on the bbc? Was it anything of note? Surely using parliamentary privilege is usually something of note?

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/03/2021 20:51

OOOOH....

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/03/2021 21:04

well well well Mr Davis.

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/03/2021 21:10

Just listening now.

TheShadowyFeminist · 16/03/2021 21:17

Significant implications on the outcome of the committee report, on the Hamilton investigation too, and on senior SNP staff involved. Serious allegations made in that speech. There's also the suggestion that the Scottish civil service were effectively 'rouge' with no real oversight from the UK civil service.

RonSwan · 16/03/2021 21:23

Why is this still not reaching mainstream press?!

Beepbeeprichie · 16/03/2021 21:26

@RonSwan. Quite. This is surely the Watergate moment now.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 16/03/2021 21:36

I'm hoping that now someone official has put it all together in a neat package, the press will actually put this story together and actually press home the parts of the First Minister's testimony that were either misleading (the counsel originally thought they had a strong case...because you were withholding evidence from them!) or just plain implausible (her COS was interfering in the investigation two months before NS herself found out about it, come on!).

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 16/03/2021 21:37

I have just been reading on Twitter. Still so much support for the SNP. It saddens me.

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/03/2021 21:39

I hope you're right - and there are still parts of it missing but even without them it's a big story.

WouldBeGood · 16/03/2021 21:39

Bloody hell.

WouldBeGood · 16/03/2021 21:40

Puts it all together nicely. It’s a disgrace.

Happinessisawarmcervix · 16/03/2021 21:44

@RonSwan

Why is this still not reaching mainstream press?!
I think it’s too complicated for the mainstream press. If you read Wings or Craig Murray’s blog then much of what Davies said this evening won’t be a surprise. But they have acres of space to lay out the detail. And for the real impact of what has been done you have to know who some of the women are and the press can’t take the chance of giving those clues.

Interesting to note that it was Joanna Cherry who told the Westminster SNP MPs that they were “suborning witnesses.” Bet that’s when she became “not a team player.”

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/03/2021 21:54

I don't know who the complainants were and it's still damning to me.

I agree it's complex and i was reading through the Dunlop report but you really need some sort of spreadsheet to lay out the timelines and people involved to get a complete sense of it.

However there is so much out there that even if people were to look at any one aspect they'd be disgusted. When you get people on here that just ask "but when exactly did NS lie?" and you try to say it's not that simple, the implication is that poor wee Nicola is just getting a hard time from everyone Hmm

Some don't believe it, some do but don't care and some are just a bit stupid.

There are stupid people in all walks of life, I'm not saying that there are proportionately more in the SNP, just that in terms of overall numbers, there are more as there are more supporters.

TheShadowyFeminist · 16/03/2021 22:05

Interesting to note that it was Joanna Cherry who told the Westminster SNP MPs that they were “suborning witnesses.” Bet that’s when she became “not a team player.”

Yup, that was quite the penny drop for me. I knew JC had supported salmond but hadn't realised how vocal & critical she was of scotgov/SNP handling at the time. I'd assumed that she looked at the case from the POV of a prosecutor & weighed up what she knew of the case/evidence etc. Her position as a QC who has prosecuted cases involving sexual violence does give her quite an important insight into what's gone on. And if she was warning against activity known of, that she saw as problematic, then it does explain why she was then ousted, isolated & targeted.

I didn't think it could get much worse but it actually has IMO.
