PGs' (both of them, see Twitter) victim was so young. What is it with SNP MPs and teenagers?

Graffitiqueen · 10/03/2021 10:12

@WaxOnFeckOff

I used to think, regardless of which party, that MPs and MSPs needed brains and a bit of gravitas. If I'd realised it was a job that you could just get any random relative to do then I might have gone for it and enjoyed a much higher salary than I'm on.
I've come to realise it takes either that or the dunning Kruger effect.

Here's the Hosie Macneil mess. This one passed me by at the time.

GirlLovesWorld · 10/03/2021 10:17

Horizontal recruitment? Yuck.

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/03/2021 10:28

found a version of the story with no paywall:

Seems like it's also ok to own a flat in London, rent it out and then claim hotel expenses for being in London?

anon444877 · 10/03/2021 11:23

Most of all of this, I'd like to know if the scene with Blackford, Harvey and the complainant happened - that's horrendous treatment of someone coming forward, not mediation.

LexMitior · 10/03/2021 11:25

Sleazy buggers

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/03/2021 11:27

I think it was blackford and the female conplainant

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/03/2021 11:27

Sorry female MP

anon444877 · 10/03/2021 11:31

Sorry Grady - this article in Scottish Sun:

TheShadowyFeminist · 10/03/2021 12:29

Is there anyone in the SNP actually managing this? Or have they all just logged off & started hitting the drink?

They must've known what was being sat on & how Sturgeon painting herself as a heroine to the victimised could provoke a lot of unhappy people?

I noted this earlier too.

Link to tweet

"I'm sure all the members who left the Coatbridge & Chryston branch due to misogny, nepotism and bullying will be most interested to hear about Patrick Grady, the then National Secretary who suspended individuals who complained and when that didn't work suspended full branch."

How the hell did the SNP manage to sell themselves as a credible party with so much shit bubbling away under the surface, for so long?

Dinnafashyersel · 10/03/2021 12:40

Since we're in gossip mode just to clarify on Angus Robertson. He lost his WM seat at the 2017 GE so was in charge up till then (not sure of dates of allegations (?)).

He is another one who swapped his wife out for a newer younger grass roots activist in the wake of Indyref1. His new wife has all sorts of connections to music industry and lots of allegations about cronyism in grant funding.

Long tradition of this sort of thing all the way back to before 2015 when they only had half a dozen WM MPs to misbehave. Of that 6 only Stewart Hosie, Angus MacNeil and Pete Wishart are current MPs. (I knew about S Hosie's daliances. Wish I hadn't googled A MacNeil).

LexMitior · 10/03/2021 12:52

Someone correct me here - isn’t there actual legislation being presented to the Scottish Parliament to regulate behaviours of MSPs and former MSPs?

If so, I think they will be busy!

There is something very distasteful about including lots of young people and then having sexual relationships with them as powerful politician. It is creepy and always has been.

I just looked at Angus McNeil's wiki page and I've not read through it but it's worth a look for the photo of the most insincere smile I've ever seen :)

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/03/2021 13:10

Personal life
In 2007, the Sunday Mail reported MacNeil had "kissed and fondled" two girls aged 17 and 18 in a hotel room while his pregnant wife was in hospital, in 2005.[15] MacNeil said he bitterly regretted the incident and said he was angry it had diverted attention from the "substantial political issues" he had been pursuing. In a statement, MacNeil, then 36, apologised for the "embarrassment and hurt" caused to his family by his actions. In May 2016, MacNeil and his wife announced that they had separated; this followed reports that MacNeil had had an affair with a Westminster-based journalist, Serena Cowdy.[16]

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/03/2021 13:19

This really does put me in mind of the later days of Major's govt - sleaze pouring out all over the place.

LexMitior · 10/03/2021 13:23

It is just bloody stupid to moralise on these things if you don’t have clean hands yourself. It’s back to basics, but Scottish style.

The hypocrisy of it goes to the concern about Salmond being targeted - get on the wrong side of the leadership and you get a retrospective policy applied to you unlawfully. Be on the right side then you get promoted or protected.

I don’t know if that is a criminal conspiracy, but I am revising my opinion that it was just incompetent, but that it was deliberately done in very incompetent way. Salmond probably knew about all this stuff that is coming out now but he’s been acquitted.

What policy is going to apply all these new allegations, btw?

Beepbeeprichie · 10/03/2021 13:24

@StatisticallyChallenged doesn’t it just? Exactly what I thought. Pure sleaze, nepotism, abuses of power and expenses. Disappointing all round.
