90 years of experience in the room🤦‍♀️

Yeah but you failed. The 90 years failed.

littlbrowndog · 02/03/2021 22:09

Let’s not mention lord advocate the malicious prosecution on the rangers case

23£ million and still going

The lord advocate admitted he and his department were wrong

WouldBeGood · 02/03/2021 22:19

I’m in shock about it all I think. Never in a million years expected this

Scottishskifun · 02/03/2021 22:20

@Coquohvan I did another post I don't want the government in freefall. Just as I think it's wrong for a Scottish independence election in a pandemic so is a government in freefall.

She's unlikely to go in the next week or so. I just hope it makes people realise the moral highroad is no longer there. A lot of the time I hear that people want to separate from the corrupt Westminster..... Well this saga proves to me at least same issue so that point is lost.

Graffitiqueen · 02/03/2021 22:24

The SNP promised us better than Westminster. I was never taken in by that promise after all humans are human and power corrupts. I feel really disappointed today though at the damage they have done to Scotland. It's utterly shocking.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 02/03/2021 22:27

It's horrible. It's hard to see how she'll get through this.

GirlLovesWorld · 02/03/2021 22:37

I think it's such a shame because since 2014 I've felt there's been a real pride in the direction Scotland wanted to go in. Over the long term I mean, not tomorrow, but it felt like a place I would want to live, and my kids would too.

I want independence because my Scottish vote doesn't count in our national Parliament; our democracy is broken. Even returning a pro-independence party for years on end doesn't carry any weight for leaders of the national parties.

That's why I vote SNP, but I'm hugely unlikely to do so again once we have an Indy Scotland. They've blown it, spectacularly quickly too.

GirlLovesWorld · 02/03/2021 22:37

And I am beyond gutted that I have to go into the office tomorrow and can't watch the whole thing live Angry

Cismyfatarse · 02/03/2021 22:41

Is it wrong that I am tempted to structure my teaching around watching?

I won't but I am tempted.

Rae36 · 02/03/2021 22:52

I'm still a bit confused by the news talking about the Scottish Government/Parliament/SNP (not sure which one) 'pursuing the case' against Salmond. Surely it's not their decision to make whether the case gets to court or not?

Or does it just mean the SG/SP/SNP/whichever pursued their own investigation of him and the news was badly worded?

Is all this because Salmond disagrees with the internal investigation? Somehow in my head Sturgeon has done something illegal tied up with the court case, but she hasn't, she's broken Parliament rules?

I was trying to explain this to my 14 yr old tonight and realised I was completely thing myself in knots.

OldRailer · 02/03/2021 22:54

Newsnight have said at least twice that " it's a very complicated story.."

Coquohvan · 02/03/2021 22:54

@Scottishskifun crossed posts.

I’m not so sure we’d free fall without her as NS is not Scotgov alone. She has caused quite a bit of MH anxiety herself already going by many comments on this forum alone. In fact all this has done is shown and enforced that UKgov and Scotgov are very similiar.
Where is her honest and transparent government now?

I am not alone when saying that now is not the time for continued pushing for independence as you do. Honestly elimination off COVID is a fantasy and I do believe she knows this as she is anything but stupid, to not understand. Devi advise aside. When the UK relief dries up and they begin to get the economy running again we will do the same as UK will not continue giving us money.

We are not that far apart in our opinions. Tomorrow and the upcoming elections will be very interesting.

LizzieMacQueen · 02/03/2021 23:04

@Rae36 Statisticallychallenged put up a great summary on the Salmond v Sturgeon thread about an hour ago. It's the most succinct I've read so far.

To InfiniTier and beyond ....
WouldBeGood · 02/03/2021 23:04

@Rae36 there was a civil case as well as the criminal one against AS

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/03/2021 23:07

Is all this because Salmond disagrees with the internal investigation? Somehow in my head Sturgeon has done something illegal tied up with the court case, but she hasn't, she's broken Parliament rules?

If it's proven that people (including Sturgeon and Murrell) tried to collude and create "evidence" and lies to a court in order to put someone in jail then that is very much a criminal offence.

user1487194234 · 03/03/2021 06:13

I do think NS is seriously damaged by this
She will probably go eventually, but I think she will try and hang on
Leslie woman and Murrell will probably be sacrificed
Going to be an interesting day

Lockdownbear · 03/03/2021 07:13

If the other party put a vote of no confidence on her, what happens?

GirlLovesWorld · 03/03/2021 08:17

There would be a vote in Parliament but I can't see it passing. I guess she'd limp along for a while to project stability ahead of the election.

GirlLovesWorld · 03/03/2021 08:23

Although that raises the question of who might replace her.

I'd love it to be Joanna Cherry, although I find her support of AS a bit 🤮

Lockdownbear · 03/03/2021 08:32

I'dloveit to be Joanna Cherry, although I find her support of AS a bit 🤮

From what I can figure if NS is guilty, AS is innocent. They can't both be guilty. So it's a good thing that's AS had people on his side.

anon444877 · 03/03/2021 08:39

I don't know, it's possible for Salmond to have behaved in a disreputable way short of something legally he could be held account for and for Nicola and the people reporting to her to have made a series of lies, mistakes, and abuses of power to achieve the ends of trying to win a legal battle that it looks was a fairly tall order to win from the outset.

anon444877 · 03/03/2021 08:46

It's shown Nicola is every bit as much a conviction politician as Thatcher - always dangerous. You see a whole lot of ends justify the means both with covid, and Salmond-gate. Wasn't Thatcher the first one accused of politicising the civil service?

Oh a policy that isn't quite fit for the ends doesn't exist? No problem we'll bash one in.

I've had to promise to text DH if the testimony today is anything more than flannel.

AgentCooper · 03/03/2021 08:54

Checking in Brew I have been opposed to Nicola on a great many things since bloody Covid began and am thoroughly fed up. But I feel bad for all the folk who are going to be heartbroken by this, I think there’s been trust in her and love for her that I don’t remember seeing for another politician in my lifetime (I’m 35). My friend has a pic of her daughter meeting Nicola which she posted on SM (ages ago) saying thank you for showing my daughter what women can achieve. I remember thinking she was so much better, more empathetic and intelligent than Salmond and she might actually persuade me towards Indy. A lot of things this past year have changed my mind but I do think she represented something huge for many people.

WouldBeGood · 03/03/2021 09:03

I think that makes it worse @AgentCooper.

The image she has presented on all fronts seems to have been just that, an image.

I’m pretty disillusioned although did not agree with her politics.

AgentCooper · 03/03/2021 09:06

@WouldBeGood absolutely. It’s a tremendous fall from grace.
