Hello again @GirlLovesWorld ! 👋🏻

I've name changed as well! Had to sadly. Quite liked my old name. I'm glad you're still here with that helpful info.

WouldBeGood · 10/03/2021 16:20

The word thing is getting more Orwellian by the day. Redefining perfectly ordinary words to mean something different is weird.

GirlLovesWorld · 10/03/2021 16:21

Hello! I wasn't going to out myself again but meh, I can always NC again if I have to! I would have kept my old name but felt a bit awkward when I went to join a railing thread about a month ago and saw I was getting slagged off a bit - or maybe not me exactly but the report anyway. Felt a bit like I was personally responsible for policy when that's obviously not the case.

snowcoveredcampsies · 10/03/2021 16:22

At this point it looks like an accusation of 'dastardly deeds'. If it ever becomes proven then I'll be the first to suggest he goes on moral grounds.

None of it, as it stands, detracts from his qualifications and ability to do a job though.

snowcoveredcampsies · 10/03/2021 16:24

@GirlLovesWorld very awkward! It's a strange old place but it's very good to have you back. The reasons I had to name change were utterly bizarre and quite frankly unbelievable but hey ho here we go again 🤷🏻‍♀️

I agree with you there. It really shows up the people who just read headlines and seize on the key words but don't actually click the links.

I am not sure the ‘People’s panel’ can change the accepted use of words

snowcoveredcampsies · 10/03/2021 16:36

@user1487194234

I am not sure the ‘People’s panel’ can change the accepted use of words
The people's panel were presented with the strategies.

They didn't define anything.

From what I can gather these are common terms for approaches across all of the western countries. I certainly remember Dr Fauci talking about elimination to mean exactly as was explained here.

I am assuming that it is epidemiological jargon.

mibbelucieachwell · 10/03/2021 16:37

The increase in positive tests today compared to in the past few days seems to be down to Greater Glasgow, Lanarkshire and Ayrshire. Would it be too early for those tests to be rangers fans who celebrated on Saturday ? 5 days ago. I think I read that 50% of people who test positive do so up to 5 days after contact with an infected person. But how quickly are the tests processed and then reported. If it's something else causing the large increase in the Rangers areas, what is it? Sad

user1487194234 · 10/03/2021 16:37

Orwellian indeed

snowcoveredcampsies · 10/03/2021 16:38

And the accepted use of words changes all the time in different contexts. Especially if subject specific jargon gets involved.

WouldBeGood · 10/03/2021 16:39

Nope, definition the same according to the CDC

"The People's Panel". Is that the 19 Member hand picked team who spent the morning being brainwashed by Zero Devi before making their "considered" recommendations 20 minutes later?

If only everyone took JRs and Jury verdicts as seriously these days.

snowcoveredcampsies · 10/03/2021 16:42

@WouldBeGood that looks like a dictionary screenshot to me.

A quick google on the cdc and you will see that polio is eradicated (completely gone) and that measles is eliminated (very low numbers some weeks and months not present at all).

WouldBeGood · 10/03/2021 16:45

Oops wrong screenshot

snowcoveredcampsies · 10/03/2021 16:45

@Dinnafashyersel only on mumsnet does anyone think that keeping virus numbers as low as possible isn't a good idea.

Again with the putting people down. They are grown and intelligent adults. What would make you think they could be brainwashed?

WouldBeGood · 10/03/2021 16:46

But I appreciate this is pointless 😃

user1487194234 · 10/03/2021 16:50

I don’t think anyone is saying that getting the numbers down is not a good thing
But it’s not the be all and end all and if we are to be under house arrest until zero Covid is achieved, then that is not ideal

Probably not fully anyway. It's the schools going back ( going by a post on a teacher's group). Increase in cases are in 0 to 14 and 22 to 44 year age group.
snowcoveredcampsies · 10/03/2021 16:52

@GirlLovesWorld lots of us really appreciated your efforts on that panel and the insights you offered.

It says more about the people who continue to put it down than it does about you ThanksThanksThanks

snowcoveredcampsies · 10/03/2021 16:55

Thanks @WouldBeGood for that. It certainly seems to contradict what they say elsewhere but 🤷🏻‍♀️. Certainly the BBC and the SG and the UK gov seem to define it as exceptionally low not gone. I'm clearly wrong about Fauci's interview. I'll see if I can find it.

mibbelucieachwell · 10/03/2021 16:55

Hmmm. 22-44 would be one of the largest demographics amongst the Rangers Fans breaking the rules I would think.

And schools are back everywhere.

I meant to say, 50% of people who test positive for covid do so within 5 days of contact of another case.

mibbelucieachwell · 10/03/2021 17:17

My understanding of the use of the word elimination in regards to pandemics etc is that it doesn't mean to wipe from the face of the earth. Whatever, it's jolly confusing terminology if you ask me? Not that anybody does.

Re JL and co's qualifications. Tbh, I've been unpleasantly surprised at how limited the experience and qualifications of some of the advisors are. A masters from Harvard will I think, have been a part time 2 year course. It's not like he's a medical doctor with 20 years experience of working in public health. I find him very patronising and unsympathetic, unless you're a footballer. In which case you can do what you like, because, I mean, the right to identify as a football fan and be pandered to....
