Exactly, @Peppafrig. It’s Schroedinger’s Elimination

user1487194234 · 10/03/2021 15:49

Ifwe are still locked up in May while England is not,it must affect the election here

snowcoveredcampsies · 10/03/2021 15:57

The poster who was on the people's panel explained elimination really nicely. Despite what the word suggest it doesn't of course mean complete eradication because that ship has sailed.

It's a shame she doesn't seem to be here any more because her explanations of the different approaches were very helpful.

@Scottishskifun aye okay 👌🏻 I'm pretty sure he's qualified to do what he's been doing and more than qualified to discuss virology to ordinary punters. He's the national clinical director for the SG and his masters in public health is only one of his postgrad qualifications. The way you speak of him says more about you quite frankly.

@StarryEyeSurprise brilliant response from GCC . I believe they have also disputed a lie from RFC that fans went down and cleaned it up.

WouldBeGood · 10/03/2021 16:00

@user1487194234 if I were a cynical person I might think they’ll lift restrictions in line with England just in the nick of time...

WouldBeGood · 10/03/2021 16:02

I don’t like JL and question his judgment not only because he’s a dentist and not an infectious diseases expert or virologist, but also because if his evangelical charity in India that’s under investigation with regard to using charity for conversion.

Peppafrig · 10/03/2021 16:03

@WouldBeGood I wouldn’t be surprised. I can’t see how they can justify closing schools to use as polling stations this year. I see in England they are putting a lot of money into avoiding using schools for the purpose .

Well you're entitled not to like him. It doesn't detract from his qualifications. I'm sure there are plenty of virologists and epidemiologists on the payroll as well.
WouldBeGood · 10/03/2021 16:07

I doubt his judgment because of the above.

If they clean them I can't see the problem 🤷🏻‍♀️ why waste money when we're geared up for schools anyway.

Surely most folk will be split for postal votes anyway?

StarryEyeSurprise · 10/03/2021 16:08

@WouldBeGood

Is it his charity?
Peppafrig · 10/03/2021 16:08

The problem is the kids missing yet another day of school .

WouldBeGood · 10/03/2021 16:10

*Elimination noun
1.
the complete removal or destruction of something.
"the elimination of extreme poverty is a key objective"

Peppafrig · 10/03/2021 16:10

Sent that too soon. Polling stations close at 10pm don’t they i have no doubt they will clean them during the night so they can open but even one more additional day is too much .

WouldBeGood · 10/03/2021 16:12

The charity thing, and his qualifications for his position.

I also feel he lacks empathy and the ability to see the effect of his pronouncements on us ordinary people.

snowcoveredcampsies · 10/03/2021 16:12

@WouldBeGood thanks for that I have a dictionary too.

As I said, and as the BBC article and the poster who had been in the panel also said, elimination doesn't mean in this context, despite the ordinary usage of the word, complete eradication. How could it possibly?

He's highly qualified. Public health emergencies and issues aren't always virology based so they don't appoint solely on that basis.

So, no. I can't get too worked up about someone being a trustee of a charity running orphanages.

snowcoveredcampsies · 10/03/2021 16:14

And it's not his job to display empathy or consider effect. That's up to the Government.

GirlLovesWorld · 10/03/2021 16:14

The elimination thing doesn't mean eradicate. That would be zero.

The potential strategies are:

Exclusion (i.e. close borders before it gets it)
Elimination (keep cases as low as possible)
Suppression (keep cases sort of simmering along as we - and most other countries - are doing)
Mitigation - do ONLY what it takes to protect the most vulnerable
Do nothing - well, just look at Brazil. If anything fucks up the rest of the world's progress it will be the mutations that arise from that shitshow.

@snowcoveredcampsies It was me ;)

WouldBeGood · 10/03/2021 16:15

That's disingenuous. It’s not that he runs a charity, obviously. It’s that it’s been investigated for illegal acts in India.

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/03/2021 16:15

So, no. I can't get too worked up about someone being a trustee of a charity running orphanages.

Using that to convert children against their parents knowledge and against the law in many states? That doesn't bother you, really?

Well i guess that's another reason that we wont ever get on.

I disagree, I think he does that really well on Off the Ball, in the more informal setting.
