@Scottishskifun

Looks like tiers will be done on health boards...... Good for cities not for more rural areas
Wonder if I can self identify as belonging to my neighbouring health board?
Peppafrig · 10/03/2021 13:59

@Scottishskifun

I don't mind the briefings as long as they are used for their purpose only. There have been a few occasions where they haven't with responses on Alex Salmond, opinions on UK govt, independence questions etc All questions on this should be shut down and quickly!

Personally I don't think any politician should be leading them and it should be done by medical and scientific advisors and then we might get some more decent questions and answers too!

Totally agree with you . I hope they stop soon I can’t see the need for daily updates anymore now we are moving out of lockdown . Sooner the better .

Did anyone see the man whose sister was killed in the Dunblane shooting talking on Lorraine this morning? It was really powerful what he was saying and what I didn't realise was happening at the time- the poor parents were spoken about in the press as being 'over emotional' and Boris Johnson had written about the push for gun control being a 'knee jerk reaction' .

The parents fought on and changes were made. It's so sad that this change still hasn't happened in America - it's somewhere I couldn't live due to this reason.

Scottishskifun · 10/03/2021 14:07

@starryeyesuprise yes in the beginning but the daily briefings aren't used as this for relaying any SG decisions now they switched to parliament for this

@snowcoveredcampsies its not just me that has this opinion it was also a recommendation from the public covid group report the same one that the SG uses as an example of public support for their elimination strategy 😉

Scottishskifun · 10/03/2021 14:09

@snowcoveredcampsies

And when I say field I suppose I mean their specific niche of the field.
😂 On that basis Jason Leitch should never give a pandemic interview he's a dentist!
snowcoveredcampsies · 10/03/2021 14:15

@Scottishskifun with a masters level qualification in public health from Harvard.

Exactly the kind of dismissive nonsense I was talking about earlier.

So boris was a still a twat 25 years ago too.

Emm okay. I will be honest that I didn't think it was just you that thought that but thanks for clearing it up anyway.

snowcoveredcampsies · 10/03/2021 14:28

I mean I apologise for the wiki reference but the constant disparaging remarks about 'the dentist' aren't really accurate are they?

He's a working class boy from NL who's worked his arse off.

It's sad that it's always about diminishing folk.

Although I see chris whitty says there will be a covid 3rd wave this winter. I try to stay hopeful but we'll have unfurled to some tiny extent by October in time for panic to once again set in.

snowcoveredcampsies · 10/03/2021 14:31

@anon444877 I would hope that would be a third wave akin to a flu outbreak maybe? Just affecting vaccine refusers?

Am I being too hopeful?

sparkle17 · 10/03/2021 14:33

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-56347695

I see Sturgeon still wants elimination. Its really frustrating as feels like we won't make much progress out of lockdown and no future vision of what the rest of the year will look like.

anon444877 · 10/03/2021 14:47

unless another new variant appears - a lot of people not in rich countries may still be unvaccinated by the tail end of 2021 so plenty of scope for mutations.

I fear a complete re-run of last year, except with even slower unlocking this time and another crisis next winter.

Shouldn't we be planning for a 3rd wave now assuming we'll have at best a flu like crisis in the winter of 2021?

A pandemic is more than public health its epidemiology as well. My DH also has a masters in public health doesn't make him an expert in virology!

Your original comment was that scientists should be allowed to do TV interviews on their very niche subject.....in that case JL isn't a virologist or epidemiologist so should stick to public health only and not virology based questions.

Peppafrig · 10/03/2021 15:05

I see that the SNP chief whip Patrick Grady has stepped down after sexual harassment claims against him made by an unnamed female SNP MP.

Peppafrig · 10/03/2021 15:08

Oops sorry I got that wrong it was allegations against him and a separate unnamed female SNP MP .

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/03/2021 15:11

yep, we've been talking about that on the Sturgeon/Salmond thread and a lot of other stuff. Don't know if you folks have also seen this? Losing track of what is on what thread:

StarryEyeSurprise · 10/03/2021 15:31

I just read this re Rangers - the chairman said that the furniture should have been removed from George Sq! 😡

Look at the council's response. 👌👏

Chief Medical Officer Dr Gregor Smith said he did not believe coronavirus could be "eradicated", but said an elimination strategy of driving case numbers as low as possible would make outbreaks more manageable.
Does this make any sense.

Dinnafashyersel · 10/03/2021 15:43

Would have more credibility were it not for the fact that Glasgow City Council have been renovating George Square almost continuously for as long as I can remember.

In non Covid times the whole Square is cordoned off for paid for Events regularly blocking and controlling access to park benches and everything else.

Aamar Anwar weighing in but not sure what his stance is?

Steady procession of naive idiocy from GCC over last couple of years.

Dinnafashyersel · 10/03/2021 15:45

No user it doesn't.

@user1487194234 isn’t the definition of elimination to completely remove something. So having low case numbers isn’t a elimination strategy . So no he doesn’t make any sense at all.

I'll have to disagree with you here.
Icannever · 10/03/2021 15:47

The numbers are not good but Wednesdays numbers are usually the highest, apparently something to do with the day people do regular tests on. I was thinking the numbers might be higher because of more testing being done in schools (teachers in primary?) as well. Also much more community test centres being set up now I think (certainly the case in Fife just now anyway)

Icannever · 10/03/2021 15:48

So hopefully just higher because of asymptomatic cases that wouldn’t have previously been found.
