When all primary children are back next week, what’s the justification for them not mixing indoors when they will be mixing all day in school? My daughter will ask why she can play with her friends at school but not afterwards!

Scottishskifun · 09/03/2021 15:19

@Lockdownbear

Are the dry ski centres getting to open yet?
Don't think so I'm afraid
Jodhpurs46 · 09/03/2021 15:25

Because if your daughter’s friends visit your house, you or another in your home could potentially infect them all.

LoopyGremlin · 09/03/2021 15:31

If any of us had covid, then the likelihood is she would too but all kids will be allowed to mix in school freely with no masks and no distancing!

Jodhpurs46 · 09/03/2021 15:34

If you had a positive covid test, your daughter would self isolate immediately and hopefully wouldn’t have infected her friends at school.

LoopyGremlin · 09/03/2021 15:37

Clearly if we knew we would isolate, but many children are asymptomatic and wouldn’t know that they were infected but would still be at school.

RaspberryCoulis · 09/03/2021 15:39

Whoop de doo, meeting two other adults from one other household outdoors! Don't get carried away now Nic. Hmm

Have stopped paying any attention to what Saint Nicola proclaims. Doing my own thing. Done with it now.

OldRailer · 09/03/2021 15:41

The people I'd really like to meet with in the garden live outwith our area.

OldRailer · 09/03/2021 15:41

That really belongs on the other thread.

Jodhpurs46 · 09/03/2021 15:44

All the more reason to keep them out of the homes of adults who might infect them. This is all about reducing the number of chains of transmission .
There is a risk at school but that risk becomes even greater if kids start gathering in each other’s homes.

MaxNormal · 09/03/2021 15:50

Do people seriously need to wait for permission before deciding whether or not they can go for a pish somewhere?!

rookiemere · 09/03/2021 15:52

Last time there was a whole page devoted to how to safely let people use your bathroom. I thought it was hysterical until a friend - who was following the rules religiously- made me wipe after myself, put the wipe in a plastic bag in the bin, then use my clothed elbows to navigate back out of the house.
After that I stopped drinking unless I was at home.

ladylunchalot · 09/03/2021 16:07

Yay can hopefully go to my taekwondo class outside. Actually enjoyed it last year when we had sessions outdoors. Grin

The logic is say the friend is covid positive and doesn't know.

If friend mixes at school and then is positive, your DD would be told to isolate. And in theory you'd take precautions to avoid DD infecting you..

If friend has been in your house, then you too risk being positive which means you could have risked passing to work colleagues or other contacts.

florafoxtrot · 09/03/2021 16:58
@Lorelaithe1st I was wondering that as my parents are in the next local authority (only 15miles away). I would have thought it needs to be people within an authority?
You are allowed to travel 5 miles beyond your LA boundary for exercise as long as you stay within the limits for households and people so not sure of your circumstances but you could meet them for a walk? Not entirely sure if that's now extended to be 4 people from 2 different households or still just 2 people from 2 households but thought I would mention it.

GirlLovesWorld · 09/03/2021 17:04

That exact thing happened to us last year @Lockdownbear with DD's best friend. We all had to isolate whereas only DD would have had to if she hadn't been in the house. I only let her in because they were playing outside but were freezing!

Lockdownbear · 09/03/2021 17:21

@GirlLovesWorld Nightmare!
It was explained on here months ago and it was 'Ahh that makes sense' before then I couldn't figure out the logic either. But the Government should be explaining the logic instead of a bundle of rules that appear to have limited sense.

And it also goes the other way if you are in contact with the pal, and you later test positive you've risked the pal where hopefully you'd have pulled DD out of school before she is infectious therefore reducing the risk to the pal.

sweetkitty · 09/03/2021 17:28

Got an email for 2 of my children’s high school today, S1 in one day, S5 in two days per week. 10-12 in a class, not normal timetable or teachers. Seems like a total headache for 3 days of school before the Easter holidays.

The new announcement today is a joke, Nicola and Co needs to take a walk around any town right now and see people walking about in groups and the large groups of young people out with their friends.

As for bubbles, most people I know make up bubbles to suit themselves. A woman I know has her full extended family in her bubble, grandkids, parents, in laws the lot. Another daughters boyfriends are in their bubble. Or their bubble changes daily to whoever their planning to meet that day Hmm

makingitupaswegoon · 09/03/2021 17:36

@RaspberryCoulis. My thoughts exactly! Who cares any more? I don't because none of it makes any sense.

This is exactly what happened to friends daughter in December. Went to birthday party, 4 school friends in a garden. Weather wasn't very nice so ended up in house for couple hours having food etc. Next day birthday girls dad taken ill and tested positive. All 4 girls at party had to isolate and missed last 2 weeks of school term. Wouldn't have happened if they'd only mixed in school.

LoopyGremlin · 09/03/2021 18:12

Thanks @Lockdownbear
That does seem more logical. I was just struggling to explain to her why her friend couldn’t come into her room when they are mixing anyway. I have let her friend in once or twice when they were playing in the garden in the bitter cold, however.

I did like the fact that last year kids under 12 were able to mix freely indoors or out before any restrictions were relaxed for adults.

Pootle40 · 09/03/2021 18:19

@Lorelaithe1st

Are we allowed to travel out of local authority area to meet outdoors with other households? We’re over 100 miles away from family and friends and desperate to see them!
Go! Who cares? Honestly I don't get this at all........

Better vaccine news

To InfiniTier and beyond ....
GirlLovesWorld · 09/03/2021 18:54

What do we know about dates for hospitality?

I just saw the St Andrews Old Course Hotel is opening on 17th May, but I'm not sure how they can know that?

GirlLovesWorld · 09/03/2021 19:00

I don't really get it @WouldBeGood

The next tweet shows there's been loads of unused vaccine. If we are in a position to use all the vaccine we have, that doesn't seem to be happening for some reason? Maybe hoarding for second doses?
