Bad news a quick google show John swinney as the chair of the education recovery committee . His co chair is someone called Stephen McCabe

WouldBeGood · 08/03/2021 21:20

They said schools back in all pupils full time, so the 2m must be going.

John Swinney has already proved himself to be totally useless

Peppafrig · 08/03/2021 21:25

Even in areas that might still be tier 4 the 2 m will be scrapped if all kids are back.

celtiethree · 08/03/2021 21:30

Great thx! I normally really look forward to the Easter holidays this year I’m looking forward to them being over 😀

Coquohvan · 08/03/2021 21:34

“Nicola Sturgeon’s claim of the virus being almost eliminated in Scotland last summer has been completely debunked and it is irresponsible and ill-judged for anyone to claim otherwise.

This from your link @Would stood out for me. The 2m distance will have to go after Easter, how else can all children be in school. So COVID jumps out the windows during Easter but not before. Madness.

FuckingHateRats · 08/03/2021 21:55

I don't know any teachers who would be prepared to work as part of a catch up program that was out with contract, especially after these despicable plans for the next few weeks.

WouldBeGood · 08/03/2021 22:02

It seems they’ve contrived to piss off both parents and teachers in equal measure.

I would like to know what the plan is for this extra recovery money, if it’s real.

Next week, English schools will follow the protocol of positive Lateral Flow tests to be followed up by a Covid test, if Covid test negative pupil can stop isolating and return to class

Covid-19: School rapid test cannot be overruled, says minister www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-56321537

I remain unconvinced about the "Recovery Fund". I was broadly in favour of the Council Tax Hike for Education but not clear it's made an impact. Lots of "education funding" sloshing about and not ending up "educating" anyone.

Bit like my Uni DC getting free bus travel with no clear indication of when they will ever be allowed to get on a bus and travel home / to Uni again.

rookiemere · 09/03/2021 08:12

@Coquohvan the 2mt before but not after Easter would have just about made sense were it not for the massive u-turn about getting S1-S3 in but not in any meaningful capacity before Easter.

I would assume the thinking is that case rates will drop so much and vaccinations increase, that the situation after Easter will be very different from before. Except case rates in Scotland aren't really dropping at the rates expected - particularly when they find new cases stuffed under John Swinneys mattress- so next term will be interesting.

From what I'm reading here about the lateral flow tests, now thinking I'm not going to push DS to do them if they are sent out for S1-S3. I would if I was sure that a negative covid test would override a positive lateral flow test, but if that's not the case then it's a bit of a concern.

applesandpears33 · 09/03/2021 08:37

I am feeling the same way @rookiemere. I have a DC in S5 and evidence for Highers is to be gathered under exam type conditions. They haven't done much assessment under these conditions up to now due to home learning so it will all take place after Easter. I don't want my DC to be forced to isolate due to a false positive in a lateral flow test and then miss the Higher assessments. I'd have more confidence in the system if everyone who had a positive lateral flow test then had to take a PCR one.

Lots and lots more promoted posts in schools.

WouldBeGood · 09/03/2021 08:55

If your DC gets a positive lateral flow test are you supposed to isolate too? I get mixed up

rookiemere · 09/03/2021 09:16

@WouldBeGood probably or get a test yourself. I've just got results from yesterday's test - negative hurrah- and beginning to think it would just be more sensible if pupils took their own temperatures and went for a proper test based on that, rather than being dependent on somewhat unreliable tests.
The implications of a household having to self isolate for 10 days became rather clear to me in the last day and it's certainly not something I'd want to do unless it was definitely covid-19.

WouldBeGood · 09/03/2021 09:21

That’s what I’m worrying about. I don’t think I could cope with ten days in the house for no good reason. Thanks.

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 09/03/2021 09:52

Lots and lots more promoted posts in schools
That's interesting icanboogie as we have seen none of that - there is one (unpromoted) Covid recovery person in school this year and most school employed someone else with PEF funding in the last year or so.
I wouldn't disagree if there were more promoted posts as so many of them were lost in the great restructuring cull around 9 years ago.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 09/03/2021 09:52

Commenting because this thread is sitting at 666 on a relaxation of restrictions today and I think it's a bad omen 😂 absolutely nothing of note to say

GirlLovesWorld · 09/03/2021 10:26

Looks like the Covid-19 Committee is hearing evidence from Nicola Sturgeon and Gregor Smith tomorrow, I'm sure some of you would like to hear them questioned!

TeenTraumaTrials · 09/03/2021 10:37

I'd have more confidence in the system if everyone who had a positive lateral flow test then had to take a PCR one.

They do applesandpears33 but the document we've been sent says that it's up to test and protect staff to decide whether a negative PCR after a positive LF means isolation either for the tested person or contacts can stop.

So it's a decision made by someone based on "risk-assessment" but no idea what that entails. I'm not willing to take that risk for my DCs. Fair enough the false positive rate for LFs is low at around 0.1% but there will be millions of tests being done every week.

And yes wouldbegood the whole family have to isolate if a DC tests positive via LF, and then the situation above applies. So you could all have to isolate for 10 days even if a subsequent PCR test is negative - it's up to test and protect staff.

Scottishskifun · 09/03/2021 11:02

Is it today or next week that we find out how the new tier structure will work and what it includes?
I'm so confused now!

rookiemere · 09/03/2021 11:36

I think it's next week for that @Scottishskifun. Personally I wish they'd wait until nearer the time or not bother if it's genuinely not happening until end of April we simply don't know at the minute what the correlation between positive tests and hospitalisations and deaths will be at that point, so surely it makes more sense to wait for a bit more data.

Peppafrig · 09/03/2021 12:01

She is talking today and the news are expecting her to reveal a faster path out of lockdown today . So she must be making some announcement .

GirlLovesWorld · 09/03/2021 12:12

I think today is giving us some loosening of restrictions that begin on Monday, same day as schools go back? That rings a bell anyway.

JL on Off the Ball seemed to be hinting about Mother's Day and being able to meet up outside anyway (but travel restrictions will still apply so it depends where your Mum lives).

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 09/03/2021 12:16

Exactly @GirlLovesWorld Those of us why live far away from our parents haven't seen them in the garden, or for a walk in the park, and still have absolutely no hope of seeing them any time soon. Might have to avoid the park on Sunday. Sad

WouldBeGood · 09/03/2021 12:19

Well, who wouldn’t be gagging with delight at the prospect of an outdoor meet-up with their old mum in this?
