@rookiemere

So regarding the 2 metre distancing at schools, presumably that's not happening in primary or they wouldn't all be able to be in, and for secondary it's only until Easter holidays as again it would be impossible to have all years in summer term with distancing?
Yes exactly. After Easter holidays there won't be 2m distancing in classes so it will be back to whatever rule was applied pre-January for deciding who is a close contact.

But having personal (via DD) experience of this it's not flawless. A pupil in one of her classes that she sat nowhere near tested positive - she was identified as a contact and spent 10 days at home but the pupil the positive case sat next to in the lunch hall the day before testing positive wasn't!

For me this is all just too late and disproportionate to the risks of Covid now.

@Scottishskifun

Oh crikey hint that tier system is being examined at bigger than LA area and possibly geographical area.... If they take Central belt as a whole I feel very bad for Edinburgh!
Oh no!!!!! I'm in Edinburgh and surrounded be large swathes of white on tableau public, 42.1 cases per 100,000. How can this be fairAngry
rookiemere · 08/03/2021 16:50

@Sootess as a fellow Edinburgh denizen it's best to put fairness out of your mind, I'm sure the vast majority of Glasgow and Stirling and wherever else is higher are obeying the rules as well, but are likely to be locked up forever due to where they live.

In other exciting news according to Travelling Tabby there was one reported coronavirus death today. Whilst of course every death is a tragedy etc. etc. hardly seems justifiable to keep us all locked up and most senior DCs not in school meaningfully until after Easter holidays for the sake of one death.

At some point in the vaccination programme there needs to be a decoupling between case rates and hospitalisations and deaths. Maybe now is a little premature, but some acknowledgement that this must be accepted in the future would be reassuring.

So much talk about what England are going to do to catch up pupils. Have the Scottish Gov announced their plans ? Are we facing summer schools and longer days too. Or will the focus here be on independence again and our children fall further behind ?

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 08/03/2021 18:25

Maybe we should wait till they are back in and their teachers can assess how far, if at all, they have fallen behind? My pupils who have not been engaging with online learning will be behind compared to where they should be, but those who've done their lessons won't be much different. I think they would massively resent having to do extra in the summer! And I do suspect that pupils who chose not to or were unable to work online will also refuse to attend in the holidays.

Jodhpurs46 · 08/03/2021 18:28

I haven’t heard anything about “catch-up” plans. I heard John Swinney talking about esgoil being the equivalent of the tutoring programmes in England. Have only looked at the offering for BGE and it didn’t impress me. If they are planning to catch up this year’s S3s then they better get on with it! Getting them back to school would be a good start.

LizzieMacQueen · 08/03/2021 19:02

@Jodhpurs46 Is the E-Sgoil not the Gaelic offering?

applesandpears33 · 08/03/2021 19:13

I'm not impressed with the BBC article saying that in England if a school pupil tests positive in a lateral flow test but then negative in a PCR one they still have to isolate for ten days. As the tests are not mandatory many students may just choose not to do them so that they don't run the risk of a false positive, particularly if they are undergoing assessments for A levels.

Isn’t this the issue though if we wait for the teachers to access when they are back and then put a plan in place it will already be too late. Planning needs to happen now while there is time.
ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 08/03/2021 20:02

There won't be extra money for any serious catch up tuition etc. I cannot remotely imagine that happening, so I don't really see how to plan for something ahead of young people being back in school, no. It will end up being down to their teachers to do any catching up so entirely acceptable to base it on their judgements.
I would be happy to be wrong and there be buckets of cash arriving at a local authority near you soon!

You are completely right I know Boris has promised a hundred million for English pupils let’s hope the SG do the same for our pupils.
WouldBeGood · 08/03/2021 20:10

Boris has put a guy in charge of the schools thing: an ex teacher and education bigshot

WouldBeGood · 08/03/2021 20:12

An Education Recovery Commissioner. And £1.7billion

The money the SG has put for education recovery is the largest ( proportionally) in the UK. I linked to it on a thread here already.
Jodhpurs46 · 08/03/2021 20:33

@LizzieMacQueen I didn’t think so. My son was told he could sign up to it back in November when he was self isolating.
I also think a couple of kids in our primary may have used it when isolating too so can’t be in Gaelic.

WouldBeGood · 08/03/2021 20:47

Who’s in charge of the education recovery up here?

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 08/03/2021 20:52

@LizzieMacQueen No, there's loads on there, not just Gaelic. No idea of the quality of it it, I clicked on it the other day but couldn't really be bothered clicking on any links. Grin

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 08/03/2021 20:56

@WouldBeGood

Who’s in charge of the education recovery up here?
Well John Swinney is the chair of the Covid recovery group Grin But he's surely not going to actually do anything.
Peppafrig · 08/03/2021 20:59

@StarryEyeSurprise that’s brilliant I hope we hear what they plan to do with it all soon then. It really breaks my heart to think my kids could be behind because I’ve been working full time during this lockdown and their is only so much we can do when I get in after 6.

Peppafrig · 08/03/2021 20:59

*there

WouldBeGood · 08/03/2021 21:00

I was really praying it wasn’t John Swinney 😂

WouldBeGood · 08/03/2021 21:01

I think it’s a good idea to have someone who is not in the government

celtiethree · 08/03/2021 21:08

Has there actually been guidance published for schools after the Easter holidays? I’ve found guidance for the run up to Easter which because of prioritisation of the senior phase essentially means S1 to S3 are still at home apart from a couple of well being sessions. I can’t see anything for post Easter and nothing that states the 2m distancing will be removed. For those that stay in level 4 I imagine the 2m will remain - would love to be wrong.

LizzieMacQueen · 08/03/2021 21:10

Thanks @icanboogieboogiewoogie and @Jodhpurs46 The website looked very skewed towards Gaelic so it did put me off. We are Scottish but don't speak any Scots or Gaelic.

StarryEyeSurprise · 08/03/2021 21:11

@WouldBeGood

Who’s in charge of the education recovery up here?
I don't know.
