@speedtalker they will probably argue that men's top league they are more of a bubble as its their main profession whereas women's top league is more like men's league 1. But also not all womens football will be back as its only the top level for women.

It's disgusting but doesn't surprise me. We get told decisions are made by health reasons etc etc there is very little reason for this one purely popularity to keep football going!
I think women's international was still allowed to continue in that time.

Icannever · 05/03/2021 17:31

Not defending this in anyway as I don’t see for a minute why football isallowed to go on when nothing else is but I think it’s because men’s football has enough money to most for constant testing etc and women’s probably doesn’t.
I find the fact that travelling for sport is allowed but not to see family is a fair sign of what’s wrong with this world

speedtalker · 05/03/2021 17:31

I guess, as you suggest, it was for the masses to have something to watch when they were stuck at home.

But sport is so much more than entertainment. Taking my youngest to school and going past the empty pitches where 16 year olds and around that age should have been able to develop their game, perhaps reach the top of their potential, whether regional or national...all that taken away from them : it really hit me last week, again, thinking about it from another perspective.

mibbelucieachwell · 05/03/2021 17:45

I'm fairly sure that the top leagues of amateur football were allowed to continue while hardly anything else was. I remember this being discussed by people on Radio Scotland's morning magazine programme. A woman called in saying how the players were still working, not all of them from home.

We don't seem to be using our full testing capacity so I don't see why that should stop it being used on women's football teams.

But I agree it's pandering to the men. I guess this is JL's doing so he can be down with the lads. I actually find it disgusting.

FuckingHateRats · 05/03/2021 17:57

Currently I teach all my classes twice a week and I have time to mark their work and provide feedback.

This new plan will slow the pace down considerably and also reduce my capacity to give meaningful feedback.

The seniors can't afford this nonsense.

rookiemere · 05/03/2021 19:28

I was excited yesterday about the thought of S1-S3 going back for a bit before Easter, but now it doesn't seem so good.

There's no way to make it happen without impacting on home learning and existing seniors unless they get rid of the 2 metres distancing. But SG won't do that as number of cases still high and it makes a lot more sense to keep in place until after Easter when more vaccinated and cases lower.

It's a bit of a pickle really. Maybe they should just have reintroduced outdoor non contact sports for that age group and let them meet in groups of six.

Jodhpurs46 · 05/03/2021 21:01

My S3 is getting two outdoor well-being sessions before Easter, otherwise it is remote learning.
What pisses me off most is that the SG have dressed this up as a part-time return to school. It’s a complete joke.

kurtrussellsbeard · 05/03/2021 21:02

They've bowed to parental pressure and it's going to be a total nightmare.

jabbathebutt · 05/03/2021 21:09

what exactly is outdoor wellbeing? PE?

DD doesn't want to go back to school just for PE (which she hates)

Jodhpurs46 · 05/03/2021 21:10

All they have done is create a headache for the schools. Angry parents are even more angry now. They got our hopes up and this is it!
My S3 son won’t start his Nat 5 courses until early June, the SQA aren’t making any noises in regard to any changes for next year. His year group have been totally screwed.

Jodhpurs46 · 05/03/2021 21:13

I assume it will be PE. My son will go but he won’t be thrilled.
I wonder what they will do if it’s pissing with rain 🙄 I don’t however blame the school. They are making the best of a bad situation that the SG have created between now and Easter.

WouldBeGood · 05/03/2021 21:16

Well it’s a sad day when it’s bowing to parental pressure to let children go to school.

What a fucking mess

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 05/03/2021 21:47

It's utter nonsense. What are they going to do outside if it's raining? We'll be socially distancing the seniors indoors. 😂

If it's any consolation our school have written to parents assuring them the quality of online learning won't diminish. I wonder if they'll try to still allocate timetabled teachers to online learning.

rookiemere · 05/03/2021 21:49

@kurtrussellsbeard I don't think it's parental pressure that has caused this issue. My bet is that they want to open a few things earlier than planned over Easter, but can't do that unless they say that all DCs are back at school.

Scottishskifun · 05/03/2021 21:54

Is this what we have resorted to thinking that children attending school to get a education and socialisation is bowing to parents pressure?! Sad day indeed!

I spoke to my HV today so thankful that my DS has been able to attend nursery mostly since Junr on a key worker slot. She asked questions on his reactions to things..... Turns out many many young children (who the assumption was they won't remember or it won't effect them) are showing serious issues with development, social skills etc.

It's a sad time for any parent when the full impact of lock down is affecting so much of their lives and development.

Jodhpurs46 · 05/03/2021 22:08

@rookiemere right on point. So much for prioritising education. They messed up return date, got found out and this is how they have ‘fixed’ it.

kurtrussellsbeard · 05/03/2021 22:22

@Scottishskifun I'm not sure how a half day a week for s1-3 is an education.

It's a total nonsense.

kurtrussellsbeard · 05/03/2021 22:23

Hmmm interesting @rookiemere . Any predictions as to what? Is there any chance it could be a hairdresser? 🙏🏻

rookiemere · 05/03/2021 22:23

Yup deja vu to last year when oldies queueing for garden centres and DCs still getting no schooling. And yes our S3 DCs being thrown under a bus albeit a much slower one than current exam years.

Having said that Englands going for a high risk strategy regarding schools. I do hope for all our sakes that it turns out to be a good gamble.

rookiemere · 05/03/2021 22:24

@kurtrussellsbeard I really wish it was the hairdressers Grin.
I wish they'd reopen The Card Factory - it's costing me a fortune having to get my cards from Tesco.

Education isn't just what is in the classroom. Yes it's rubbish I think all years should be back. Majority of places in Scotland are at October levels it wasn't dangerous to attend school then. Schools now have additional measures and testing.

The SG realised their announcement went down badly especially after parents realised it was in the sodding Easter holidays. Nothing to do with parents they are looking at May voting!

ladylunchalot · 05/03/2021 22:34

Is it not down to the individual council's as to how much schooling s1-s3 will receive rather than the SG?
Ds in s1 in an ASN high school is having home learning w/c 15th and 29th March and is in the full week of w/c 22nd March. Still to hear arrangements for dd in mainstream s3.

kurtrussellsbeard · 05/03/2021 22:38

@Scottishskifun half a day. They will have one break together if they're lucky.

It's a nonsense. It's a logistical nightmare. It takes precious time away from the exam classes and all pupils will learn less because their teachers can't spilt themselves in two.

Yes but they have to socially distanced. We can fit nine in an average classroom with 2m distance.
