Her Maj made a very subtle hint about her feelings when the Scotland and Wales introduced the travel bans, W&K were swiftly sent on a working tour of the UK.

The other issue with the football is the international games that were meant to be getting played. That's a lot of lost revenue to businesses, hotels, restaurants etc as well as the stadiums.
Then the knock on effect, football fans who visit other cities are likely to return at another point for a short non sport related break.

Lockdownbear · 05/03/2021 14:17

Half a day in school is pointless. I bet half the kids won't turn up and who's paying for the transport in the middle of the day or are the kids expected to wait until the end of the day when the buses leave.

rookiemere · 05/03/2021 14:29

@Scottishskifun we too are planning our elicit break for the border.

If she could give some indication of when we could legally do it that was prior to 2022, we might just wait, but one of the consequences of leaving it open ended, is that people will take matters into their own hands.

On the other hand if they increase the numbers outside to 6 I am genuinely excited as means we could meet two sets of couples outside and hoping they'll move teens back to 6 so that DS can - just about legally - play his football with friends outside, which to be fair he's doing already but better not to run the threat of a criminal record for it.

Lockdownbear · 05/03/2021 14:39

Rookie, the previous rule of 6 in Scotland was 6 people from 2 households, under 12s didn't count, which is marginally better for families with under 12s.

England had 6 people from 6 households, which is better for 12+, and others who want to meet a group of pals.

At the moment in Scotland you can meet one adult from another house, there were noises about that becoming 2 adults. Which would enable 2 couples to meet and for Grandparents to meet older GC.

WouldBeGood · 05/03/2021 14:43

I’d be quite happy if my child was just allowed back in school to do nothing much except hang out with his peers to be honest.

Then back after Easter full time

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 05/03/2021 14:54

I think that's what they should do - groups I for some kind of PSE stuff. The number of parental complaints though, if wee Johnny doesn't come home with some intensive maths and English under his belt.
The SG have asked for an impossible task that should really have been run past a maths teacher first - everyone in school each week for some of the time+prioritise exam years+high quality remote learning+2m distancing so only 1/3 can be in at a time.
Maybe if schools were opened like a Tesco superstore, round the clock and 7 days a week?

WouldBeGood · 05/03/2021 14:54

Oh my god.. but I’ve just seen it’s to be one half day a week with no socialising, lunch, break etc? Health and Well-being?
Is this true?

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 05/03/2021 14:55

Half day where I am. See my equation below for why!!

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 05/03/2021 14:56

As opposed to, see most of the seniors face to face and go over exam stuff, keep putting up decent online lessons for BGE, prepare for return of all after Easter.

Scottishskifun · 05/03/2021 15:01

@Lockdownbear that was from Sept/Oct at one point we were allowed 15 people from 4 households outside in the summer but admit it feels like a bloody long time ago!

Icannever · 05/03/2021 15:13

@GirlLovesWorld ah didn’t realise you meant in another area. I’ve been very good at staying in my area 😊. I actually have been very careful, online shopping (mostly because I hate masks) etc. But I will bend the rules if needed to let my kids play with their (local) friends and cousins 😊.

Sootess · 05/03/2021 15:19

They have to keep 2m social distancing in secondary schools so they can't have them there for lunch breaks, socialising etc.
And the teachers really need to focus on the exam years as they have a big deadline coming up , and most haven't even sat there prelims yet!!
What a massive headache for schools for sake of 2 or 3weeks!!

Icannever · 05/03/2021 15:21

I think honestly the best we can hope for on Tuesday is meeting six people outside from the 15th instead of meeting 4 which was the plan. Not very exciting for me but Nicola will probably think she’s being very generous.

I’m just hoping our vaccine roll out hugely accelerates as England is promising and the numbers go down and somehow we get out of it but struggling to feel hopeful we’ll ever get back to normal at the moment ☹️

WouldBeGood · 05/03/2021 15:21

But this is shite for the kids.

My DS will be gutted

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 05/03/2021 15:23

2m distancing was always going to mean 1/3 of pupils in.

Sootess · 05/03/2021 15:25

Its really just so they can say all children are back from 15th. But they're not really!

WouldBeGood · 05/03/2021 15:28

It’s fucking disingenuous at best

makingitupaswegoon · 05/03/2021 15:39

@Scottishskifun
Yes I contacted independent shop we go to and they are lending us a gauge - they have my custom evermore now.

hilbil21 · 05/03/2021 16:03

@Scottishskifun I noted her comment that travel in Scotland would hopefully be allowed. Can't see how it was said in the same breath as so might the Euros. Does she hate England that much she can't even accept they're joined onto us lol.

Scottishskifun · 05/03/2021 16:09

No idea its so obvious that she avoids any questions relating to travel to RUK though.

I'm sure football is important to some but the fact that this seems to have a more definitive answer then families abilities to travel to see each other is truly shocking!

But we are allowed if there is a wedding because that's protected by human rights law..... Think we will have a lot of weddings to attend this year!

hilbil21 · 05/03/2021 16:51

@Scottishskifun I know it's crazy. Well yes, I am going to a lot of weddings too lol.

speedtalker · 05/03/2021 17:02

The football issue- maybe I'm misunderstanding- but am I right in thinking top flight mens football has been back all season, but only in the last few days has NS said top flight womens football will be allowed back? How can that be justified, it's totally sexist. Mens football is no more important than womens, but I guess this is just to pacify all the tv watching of it. If that's the case pity they didn't say top flight womens could go ahead and get equal telly time.

Scottishskifun · 05/03/2021 17:13

@speedtalker your completely right mens top level didn't have to stop, womens football did.......
There seems no logic to this women's football is hardly riskier than men's simply to appease football fans! The SG will probably argue that lower leagues weren't allowed either but pretty shameful yet again for a government who claims to focus on women..... 🙄

speedtalker · 05/03/2021 17:19

I don't follow football, but I was aware that mens was on when there were those stories about quarantining and travel. But I just assumed that top level both was on.

That actually blows my mind. I play a team sport, and there was an international championship on that was streamed on a more obscure channel... the idea that in my sport they would have allowed one gender to play and not the other....it just would never happen!

How was this allowed in football?? Urgh, the pandering, what a bunch of arseholes. So one set of men get to continue their dream of being the best in the game, but it doesn't matter about women.

speedtalker · 05/03/2021 17:21

Can you imagine if at the Australian Open they only allowed men to compete?
