@kurtrussellsbeard I still don't see how this is parents fault?!
Should they be outraged that they gave dates at the start of Easter holidays - yes definitely!
But it's SG who have done this as a popularity aspect for voters leaving schools and parents to sort......
Hardly the fault of parents is it?! They just want their children to get in school and get some face to face teaching.

kurtrussellsbeard · 05/03/2021 22:50

I didn't say it was the parents fault. How could it possibly be? It's the SG's fault. They bowed to parental pressure in an attempt to please everyone and will end up pleasing nobody,

FuckingHateRats · 05/03/2021 22:53

I think SG have rushed this to appease parents who thought a return to school would actually mean a return to meaningful learning, and have shot themselves in the foot. SLT across the country hate them for this. I don't know a secondary school staff member who aren't cursing them under their breath. Parents will soon see that 'everyone back' actually means 'back in the building, socially distanced, pace of learning slower' for half a day a week and also be livid (rightly so).

I will never vote SNP again..

Scottishskifun · 05/03/2021 22:56

@kurtrussellsbeard so saying Well it’s a sad day when it’s bowing to parental pressure to let children go to school. isn't blaming the parents but blaming SG....... OK 🙄

I will as a means to an end but I agree with everything you're saying otherwise.

If I didn't need the money and it wasn't so unfair on the kids to abandon them when estimates are required, I would walk.

Yeah I didn't say that. You appear to almost have quoted yourself.

I said 'they've bowed to parental pressure and it's going to be a nightmare'. They being the SG. Whose fault it is.

You came back with the sad day chat.

FuckingHateRats · 05/03/2021 23:01

This is what has annoyed me most. My seniors NEED to be in. We could have used this opportunity to claw some of the time back. These last weeks are as sham and then it'll be assessment after assessment.

I say this as a mother to three children not sitting exams, one an S2 child. If his school turned around and said he was having two weeks of nothing so teachers could concentrate on seniors, I would get it.

kurtrussellsbeard · 05/03/2021 23:04

@FuckingHateRats exactly.

All it's going to take is a few localised outbreaks. A forced isolation or two and some of these kids will not get their qualifications.

Let's get them in and just them when the numbers are really low and they've got a chance to get some work done and we can gather evidence.

Scottishskifun · 05/03/2021 23:05

@kurtrussellsbeard

They've bowed to parental pressure and it's going to be a total nightmare.
Are you sure there @kurtrussellsbeard? Didn't fancy a scroll up.....
kurtrussellsbeard · 05/03/2021 23:09

@Scottishskifun starting to doubt myself but still can't see it 🤷🏻‍♀️ could you quote it?

Scottishskifun · 05/03/2021 23:09

SG are trying to appease because they know their announcements are currently going down like lead balloons....
But hey who cares about health care, treatment, education, new mums, pregnant women or mental health as long as there is an independence referendum hey?! FFS

kurtrussellsbeard · 05/03/2021 23:13

Wait are you saying that quote you e given is me blaming parents Hmm

That's me saying the SG are weak and at fault.

Scottishskifun · 05/03/2021 23:17

It didn't read that way to me read they have given in to parents and this is the result.....

Who said this though @Scottishskifun? I'm genuinely not following what you're accusing me of saying here 🤷🏻‍♀️

kurtrussellsbeard · 05/03/2021 23:20

Yes exactly. THEY have given in to parents. Emphasis on they. What about the wee made up quote you attributed to me? That's hardly in the spirit of mumsnet is it 🤣

Ah fuck it. I'll paraphrase my own misunderstanding and just say they said it lol

Jodhpurs46 · 05/03/2021 23:27

It’s all very well saying that we just need to focus on seniors but what about S3 who will do exams next year. There are no changes to the Nat 5 courses for 2022. Pupils have lost months of education and have no time to catch up.
We have already been told that they won’t start their Nat 5 courses until 7th June. That’s 4 weeks later than normal. They won’t be ready and are losing out before they even start. And nobody gives a toss about them.

Well we do give a toss about our third years. Genuinely. Their need isn't so immediate as the seniors though. A half day in school will make zero difference to them at this point.

I think that realistically they will need to modify the exam for them slightly for next year. A small tweak to save some time.

It's horrible for them and for you Thanks

GirlLovesWorld · 05/03/2021 23:32

@Scottishskifun you were quoting @WouldBeGood and attributing it to @kurtrussellsbeard by accident

kurtrussellsbeard · 05/03/2021 23:35

@GirlLovesWorld Thank you. Mystery solved! I kept looking to see what I wrote.

😂 Ah is that what I did! Sorry @kurtrussellsbeard may be we should use SG rather than they they though as that one confused me too!
Still stands decisions should be made on education and children note on vote popularity though

kurtrussellsbeard · 05/03/2021 23:45

@Scottishskifun yes definitely! It makes no sense. It's such a waste of time. I think Swinney might resign at the end of all this. Teachers feel really let down.

Jodhpurs46 · 05/03/2021 23:52

I totally agree @kurtrussellsbeard. And I don’t mean that teachers don’t give a toss. I mean that those in power don’t.
I am hoping the SQA make changes but if they intend to, then they need to get on with it. But no one is talking about this.
So many in my son’s class are falling behind or rather they haven’t caught up after the first lockdown! The current level of remote learning is also awful with 2-3 live lessons per week- always the same teachers. Little or no feedback. I absolutely despair.
The SG have misled us all this week.

Lockdownbear · 06/03/2021 01:09

I spoke to my HV today so thankful that my DS has been able to attend nursery mostly since Junr on a key worker slot. She asked questions on his reactions to things..... Turns out many many young children (who the assumption was they won't remember or it won't effect them) are showing serious issues with development, social skills etc.

I'm shocked that this comes as a surprise. What the heck did they think would happen? Angry
It's been known for years that young children shouldn't have more than 2 hours screen time per day. Yet for 4 months last year and then nearly 2 months this year little kids have been getting plonked in front of the telly day after day for hours on end. Do they seriously think LOs would be the priority in beside WFH and Homeschool older siblings?
I'm so glad nursery finally reopened and I'll be really glad to get my oldest into school so my days off can be focused on the LO. He really needs that time.

Lockdownbear · 06/03/2021 01:13

I'm angry too for S1-3 half a day is a pointless tick box affair. More hassle than its worth for both kids and teachers. I still can't work out how it will work for school transport, who's paying for the extra buses or are kids expected to hang around until hometime?

Another genius SG idea that doesn't work.

jabbathebutt · 06/03/2021 07:03

They might as well keep remote learning for all the difference half a day will make, especially if its just going to be 'wellbeing' ie PE.

Haven't heard from our council yet. I think last year blended learning was going to be 2 days in school for DD before it got scrapped so see if that's the plan this time, who knows.
