My usually six to twelve monthly migraines have started coming at least once a month. They render me utterly insensible (can't speak, or think) and last two days.
Reason for the increase? the ban on massage therapists working :(

I have a dodgy neck and only regular massage keeps the muscles loose enough that the blood flows properly to my brain.

We really need to get out of lockdown / level 4 ASAP!

Lockdownbear · 05/03/2021 10:56

As everyone counts the cost of covid. I wonder if SG would have a different attitude if WM was to say, Scotland you rang up a higher proportion of the bill, so now you need to repay all that you rung up back.

Keeping stuff closed longer, means less tax (income, corporation and Vat) collected and more money spent on furlough.

GirlLovesWorld · 05/03/2021 10:58

@rookiemere

Yes and we're now pursuing a strategy of zero covid that will not work because we border with England and are not self sufficient for produce. I just don't understand how this can be allowed. We're part of the the UK, how is it legal for us to have more restrictions. I can understand now as we're still in the pandemic situation, but once adult population is vaccinated and numbers are low, how can it be legal for us to have less rights than our English counterparts?
But the law is a devolved issue, as is health, so of course it's legal.
Scottishskifun · 05/03/2021 10:59

@mibbelucieachwell

Has anyone modelled the effects of various levels/types of lockdown? If not why not? If they have why are their projections not in the public domain? We hear plenty about projected Covid levels and effects.
They are doing government surveys which does show significant effects on mental health, sleep and well being.

Most of the data for other health aspects are done yearly though and won't have been released yet in order to do this. Also the full problem won't be known yet such as dental.

Its also likely to be universities probably running the research programmes on a lot of it. I don't think the govt will wish to do a report on the negative health impacts on their decisions until pushed! If the unis then they will have to wait for the raw data to be published.

WouldBeGood · 05/03/2021 11:06

@mibbelucieachwell as I understand it there as been no risk benefit analysis done by our governments about any of the measures they have put in place.

I hear you about shoes. My pair have outgrown their school shoes so guessing their size for next week. Friends are down to wellies as the only shoes that fit. It's not great for growing feet to approximate size. I can't believe shoe shops, particularly kids shoe shops, aren't considered essential.

Lockdownbear · 05/03/2021 11:15

Yip, I remember in the last lockdown trying to buy shoes via the internet. I couldn't work it out and ended up buying far too big.

Kids shoes are essential.

GirlLovesWorld · 05/03/2021 11:17

We just bought school shoes online. Nothing like reopening schools before the shops Grin

a further 498 people have tested positive for Covid-19, which is 3.1% of the tests carried out yesterday.
When the positivity rate is under 5%, the World Health Organization classes the pandemic as being under control.
There are 666 people in hospital, which is down 52.
There are 64 people in intensive care, down three from yesterday.
There have also been 11 more deaths registered in the past 24 hours of people who tested positive in the last 28 days.

GirlLovesWorld · 05/03/2021 13:09

I think it's really good to see the number of deaths falling quickly; they were high for so long that this feels like a really good piece of proof that things really are getting better. Evidence that there's a break in the chain between cases, hospitalisations, and deaths.

Sootess · 05/03/2021 13:10

Thanks @dancemom. all heading in right direction.
Hospital numbers falling about 200 at moment a week so that's great newsSmile

dancemom · 05/03/2021 13:14

JL said that the 4 data measurements they use to devise on lockdown measures were all falling at a rate faster than they envisaged which can only be a good thing.

NS also mentioned 2 changes announced next week would involve meeting outdoors and restrictions on young people

On the return to school front we've had communication from the school this morning - they won't be able to finalise plans until near end of next week but based on SD and having to prioritise S4-6 it's likely that S1-3 will get just half a day a week in school for the 3 weeks from 15th March.

Clearly any time at all in school is good, but I really do wonder if 1.5 days in school is worth the amount of time planning for it, and the fact there will probably be less meets or live lessons for the rest of the time as the teachers can't do 2 things at one.

Very frustrated yet again with the refusal to answer questions around travel within the UK stating its too early but earlier questions answered hopefully travel within Scotland by the summer.......

So to me this hints quite majorly that they will keep the unicorn border in place.....

I (and probably many like me) refuse to be criminalised for travelling to England when it's safe and England allows. I'm just wondering what colour zoro mask to buy now to go with my outlaw look for when driving!

Readette · 05/03/2021 13:23

Is anyone else a bit confused by the announcements being promised next week? They sound like the plans she’s already outlined - so v minor changes to number of people meeting outside. Or is anyone expecting more substantial change? Even though she’s promised to review and accelerate things as things improving more rapidly than expected - it sounds to me she’s sticking to plan she outlined a couple of weeks ago.

dancemom · 05/03/2021 13:33

I was expecting more substantial changes on Tuesday but it is looking like it will be an amendment on numbers allowed to meet up outside rule which doesn't really change my world much

If I can sit outside in my sister's garden for a coffee beer and let the kids play with their cousins I'll be happy.

museumum · 05/03/2021 13:41

My kids would be over the moon if they could Easter egg hunt in MILs garden.
Fingers crossed!

Icannever · 05/03/2021 13:48

I would say you can already sit in your sisters garden and let your kids play with their cousins as that is facilitating essential exercise for your children. Ive found every opportunity to let my kids play outside with other kids, meeting friends at the park, for a walk etc. Can’t see a garden is any different really. It’s all fresh air and exercise with one other adult and unlimited kids.
Willing to admit it’s slightly bending the rules but not so much that I’d feel guilty 😊

Icannever · 05/03/2021 13:48

And yes Tuesdays announcement is not sounding very exciting 😬. But numbers are looking good

Can you imagine a court action going to the House of Lords?

Or Lizzy and Phil getting telt they cannot have their holiday at the wee hoose in the Highlands.

I probably could, but they live in a different area; it's not far away but still, I am generally trying to stick with the rules. I have this thing about jinxing things and getting Long Covid or something when we're so close to getting vaccinated.
Scottishskifun · 05/03/2021 14:02

@Lockdownbear I can imagine them not being happy with it but NS not budging.

She said they hope to get fans into the stadium for bloody football in the end of June but that it was too soon to say definitively......sorry but if football gets a more full response which is due to happen in an area of high rates yet they refuse to give any sign of lifting a travel ban so families can see each other.......shows its about appeasing certain people and gaining votes not to do with a pandemic!

And for such a short amount of time. All the timetabling for less than three weeks, and then it'll need changed anyway.

I can't get my head around the sense of it. Teachers will be giving kids LESS input this way.
