As the conversation is interesting and the thread is nearly full. Does it matter if Sturgeon is guilty - do you know or care? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/scotsnet/4153007-Does-it-matter-if-Sturgeon-is-guilty-do-you-know-or-care

Ok I wonder if anybody could answer this for me because it's going round my head. We have die hard SNP fans in Scotland that much is obvious. Now I get liking our current leader but surely if someone in their beloved party was corrupt then you would want them gone so as not to bring the party down?

So if it comes out that NS did break the code why would anyone who is a supporter want her to stay? I feel if you really are SNP and want Indy then surely it's out the door and rebuild? They are currently in danger of the whole party being brought down with her? Is there a reason for this?

StarryEyeSurprise · 01/03/2021 21:09
@StarryEyeSurprise just to try to explain: there’s an investigation going on. No decision has been reached. It’s alleged amongst other things that NS breached the code and lied.

Not by me. This is a parliamentary investigation.

I care if she’s found guilty of that as it’s a poor show when your leader lies to Parliament.

Do you care about that?
Look, I'm simply asking you what lie you feel the FM has told and caused her to mislead Parliament? You surely must know that if you're saying it's a 'poor show'?

WouldBeGood · 01/03/2021 21:14

It’s a poor show if she’s found guilty, I said 🤷🏻‍♀️

Aaaaargh!!!

StarryEyeSurprise · 01/03/2021 21:15

Of? What was the lie she told If you don't know, just say so.

StarryEyeSurprise · 01/03/2021 21:16

*of? What was the lie she told? If you don't know, just say so.

WouldBeGood · 01/03/2021 21:16

Simply put:

First Minister lies: bad

First Minister doesn’t lie: good

In my view

WouldBeGood · 01/03/2021 21:17

Dear god

Coquohvan · 01/03/2021 21:22

I’m also a certain vintage @ShowmetheSnowdrops and well remember these names. Some greats amongst them John Smith Donald Dewar Margo MacDonald IMO Gordon Brown was a great Chancellor.

Cismyfatarse · 01/03/2021 21:23

There are several ways she is being accused of misleading Parliament.

 1. She claims she had no knowledge of the accusations against Salmond until he told her. But his Chief of Staff had a meeting with her in her office where he told her of the allegations. She claims she "forgot" the meeting (fleeting / opportunistic etc) but he says it was planned.
 1. She met Salmond and others at her home on 2nd April to discuss the allegations. If this was SNP business, what wasn't Murrell there? If Scottish Government business she should have informed civil servants and had a note of the meeting.
 1. There was legal advice which she claims suggested it was worth fighting Salmond's judicial review but they lost / withdrew at the last minute so what does the legal advice say? This cost the public purse about 500k.
 1. What did she know? Did she know the names of the women and was one leaked to her at the meeting in parliamentary with Aberdein? She has denied it but he says it happened, as does Salmond.
 1. She used a Covid briefing (which she went to enthusiastically having left a 4 nations Covid meeting early rather than sending a minister) to attack Salmond and question the jury's verdict and therefore the judicial system and the notion of innocence. In fact, she implied they had got it wrong - she is above the legal system and knows more than the jury? If she does, why did she not share this information with the police?
 1. Why were the SNP actively seeking further women? Not amongst Samond's closest staff but by sending out vast Mail shots to members trying to solicit complaints.

There is more but that is as much as I can type right now.

Starry is that really all you’ve got ?

There have been umpteen links to this information and posters have explained it to you in good faith.

daisyfraser · 01/03/2021 21:29

Confused Google must be broken in some homes tonight

daisyfraser · 01/03/2021 21:32

'They are currently in danger of the whole party being brought down with her? Is there a reason for this?'
It's called 'Wheesht for Indy'

kurtrussellsbeard · 01/03/2021 21:33

I think what @StarryEyeSurprise was making a pretty good job of showing was that a particular poster, who ironically has been calling folk thick, didn't have a scooby about the specifics but didn't have the food grace to admit it.

Tomorrowisanewday · 01/03/2021 21:34

Showmethesnowdrops - I think I'm a similar vintage to you, I still remember where I was when I heard John Smith had died.

I wasn't a fan of AS, but on Friday, he was the consummate politician. I miss proper political debate - from either parliament

I think you only have to look at the way Jeremy Corbyn was and is worshiped by some labour members. That should show you that people don't always give a monkeys about destroying their party etc

Really don'y think current Scottish politicians compare unfavourably when placed next to the less than towering intellects of Gavin Williamson, Matt Hancock, Dominic Raab et al.

StarryEyeSurprise · 01/03/2021 21:42

Thank you Cis.

My understanding is that the LIE that she told to Parliament was that a meeting took place on 2nd April but it was actually a couple of days earlier. Is that right? If so, it's hard for me to view that as the FM misleading Parliament and a hanging offence.

I find it hard to believe that, as a lawyer, she'd question the judicial system on TV. I've not been able to watch the broadcast you're referring to. ( I know it was put on here but it didn't work for me.)

WouldBeGood · 01/03/2021 21:43

I’m fed up of you just nipping at me on threads.
I’ve reported my post as I shouldn’t derail this interesting thread

kurtrussellsbeard · 01/03/2021 21:44

@WouldBeGood eh, no.

@Downton57 agreed.

kurtrussellsbeard · 01/03/2021 21:48

@WouldBeGood i nip at you? 🤣 You've just told me to fuck off and you ran me off the railing thread for saying I wasn't an SNP cheerleader.

You're more than entitled to dislike my posts but it's an online chat forum and you'll need to get used to it sadly.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 01/03/2021 21:48

@StarryEyeSurprise she absolutely did question the verdict. I could not believe my ears but she absolutely did.

Weesht for Indy I kind of get but she doesn't really actually push for Indy. Aye she talks a good game but I honestly don't think that's her top agenda.

@WouldBeGood you tried to engage in an intelligent manner tonight with some posters there is just no point Sad I actually find you fairly balance even though I know SNP are not your thing you are capable of looking at it objectively

StarryEyeSurprise · 01/03/2021 21:55

What's 'wheesht for Indy?'

Re your comment to WouldBeGood- I hope you're not referring to myself and Kurt? Or does 'dear god' and 'f off' count as engaging in an intelligent manner?

WouldBeGood · 01/03/2021 21:57

Wheesht for Indy is a movement in the SNP which seeks to persuade members to keep quiet about corruption or problems in the party to achieve an election victory. Search on Twitter

Cismyfatarse · 01/03/2021 21:58

@StarryEyeSurprise There were 2 meetings. She denied the first one took place. Denied getting any information there and then said she had forgotten it as it was "fleeting and opportunistic". The first meeting was to arrange the second. Which was in her house, in spite of being government business (not Bute House, her own one in Glasgow). So, she issued an invitation to discuss something so important that they had to meet at her house. But she now cla8ms she did not know what the meeting was about.

Aye Right.
