As the conversation is interesting and the thread is nearly full. Does it matter if Sturgeon is guilty - do you know or care? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/scotsnet/4153007-Does-it-matter-if-Sturgeon-is-guilty-do-you-know-or-care

That 'gangster politics' thing is endemic in Britain. It's writ most Large in the tories, with mass withdrawl of whips and each candidate having to take a pledge of loyalty to Johnson.

Starmer isn't much better either - sackings for disagreeing with him.

The 'broad church' appeal of both largest parties in England has long gone and won't be back.

littlbrowndog · 03/03/2021 12:36

I think that’s correct

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/03/2021 12:37

I skipped forward to the Fabiani/Mitchell bit. Funny

Pan2 · 03/03/2021 12:38

Trouble is Peppafrig they are all trained liars. They do it really well (apart from Johnson who cant help but smirk at what he is getting away with) and research indicates we are rubbish at devining truths in interviews. We THINK we are skilled but we aren't.

WouldBeGood · 03/03/2021 12:39

@Peppafrig

I don’t like Salmond or Sturgeon but I watched him and thought he was telling the truth. I don’t trust a word she is saying.
I agree. The evidence which came out yesterday also supported his account.

*not a fan of AS either.

Aurea · 03/03/2021 12:39

Busy morning and missed most of this.

What are your takes on the outlook of Nicola's credibility, reputation and position? I very much value the opinion of other mumsnetters.

daisyfraser · 03/03/2021 12:40

Yeah 'Let's just park the bits I know I cannot answer without endangering myself'

kurtrussellsbeard · 03/03/2021 12:41

Credibility and reputation take a hit. Stay in position until May and potentially resign if SNP don't do well.

Which I think they won't.

JudgeRindersMinder · 03/03/2021 12:41

Ooft Mitchell being effectively told to shut up by Fabiani!

sessell · 03/03/2021 12:42

@pan2 that's why we have to rely on evidence. And the evidence against NS and SG/SNP is now damning.

littlbrowndog · 03/03/2021 12:42

How did the complainants know about the procedure that wasn't published?
And who approached who??
Puzzling

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 03/03/2021 12:42

Such a valid point. They have damaged the process of any victims coming forward

littlbrowndog · 03/03/2021 12:43

From Angus MacNeil on Twitter

daisyfraser · 03/03/2021 12:43

Fabiani letting us all down, frankly.
Apart from 'you know who'

Northernparent68 · 03/03/2021 12:44

@WouldBeGood

There is also the matter of NS adjudicating on the complaint against her by Jim Sillars
I can’t find any info on this, can you elaborate or provide a link
kurtrussellsbeard · 03/03/2021 12:44

@jabbathebutt

my mammy who left school with no qualifications and isn't that knowledgeable about politics, is engrossed with it. (she is intelligent enough to hate the SNP though)
A person's intelligence isn't reflected by qualifications. Nor is it by their support of a political party.
ilovebrie8 · 03/03/2021 12:44

Fabiani is out of order...could she be more biased?? just awful ..

sessell · 03/03/2021 12:44

@littlbrowndog

How did the complainants know about the procedure that wasn't published? And who approached who?? Puzzling
Great summary
WouldBeGood · 03/03/2021 12:44

Evidence is like a rope, and all the individual strands coming together can make a compelling case.

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/03/2021 12:45

Agree, the evidence and corroboration exists for much of what Alec has said regardless of whether he looked honest or whether you like him or not.

Can't be said for anything NS has said today, most if it deflection and distancing and poor me with my bad memory.

anon444877 · 03/03/2021 12:46

I thought she'd do a bit better than this total flanneling. Did anyone see Peston's tweets:

'I know just from what he told me that his behaviour was not always appropriate' juxtaposed with

'I refused to allow a powerful man to follow the age old path of getting what he wants'.

I don't accept that this is similar to tory scandals - Nicola bungled a policy, perhaps to do the right thing but it was an absolute series of mistakes, lies and evasions from start to finish (and the finish was using victim protection to hide herself behind) and the result?

A powerful man is going to get away with it, and good luck to any woman trying for a retrospective claim after this.

littlbrowndog · 03/03/2021 12:47

Yes no fan of salmond either at all

But watched him and seeing more evidence produced over last few days

I believe him and his account

I can’t really get my head around what sturgeon is saying or what she means

It seems a lot of I know/ knew nothing and the 3 men were not speaking the truth

I hope things get clearer

StarryEyeSurprise · 03/03/2021 12:48

So, there it is.

Nicola answered all questions fully and honestly, and it’s clear she acted in the best way she possibly could have in such a difficult personal and professional situation.

The policy wasn’t targeted at Alex
Her office didn’t even have the report that was leaked to the Daily Record.
Legal advice showed that they were right to defend the case right up until the point when it didn’t.
As she should have, she took a very hands off approach to the whole thing, let the process play out.

There was no conspiracy, no smoking gun.

Margaret Mitchell doesn't understand the questions she appears to have had written for her.

JudgeRindersMinder · 03/03/2021 12:48

Wightman’s just carried on Mitchell’s point by reiterating that govt isn’t qualified to make investigations into possible criminality

daisyfraser · 03/03/2021 12:49

'Liars constantly distance themselves from the centre of events, they are always on the periphery of everything, are unaware of details, and all such things must be known by 'someone else'.'

Very succinct, Alec
Reminds me of Murdoch in committee.
