Agree totally @LexMitior - wasn't disputing the lunacy, just a different reading of what he was referring too.

I was trying to consider this in different employment contexts the other day - it's not as prominent in the legal advice I guess because there is at least space to argue but the general concept of this situation seems nuts

• someone is "employed" (I know the relationship with politicians isn't that striaghtforward but for comparison) by a company
• while employed there they agree to abide by various policies
• while there something they did is queried under the policy in force, it's dealt with
• they leave their employment
• the company then writes a new policy and decides to apply it retrospectively to former staff
• they don't notify the former staff of the new policy
• the new policy is effectively stricter for former staff than current
• they then reinvestigate the ex staff member for the previously dealt with issue under the new procedure, plus a new issue
• they then publically release their findings (ok try to then leak them!) causing massive reputational damage and pretty much ensuring the ex employee will be unemployable in their industry.

How can that be a valid way to behave?

That's it @WouldBeGood we have had a year of her up there being so patronising and saying how bad we are to find this out i feel like not only has she brought politics into disrepute, the legal system here and basically gaslit the nation. How very bloody date she.

Bloody hell, these latest documents are staggering. I despise Alex Salmond but he would appear to be in the right, and his testimony was a master class in composure and intellect.

I wouldn’t be surprised if NS resigns before her testimony tomorrow “for the good of the party” etc etc. I dislike her more than Salmond but if she turns up for her grilling, then respect! I would be running for the hills

I always assumed my loathing of the government - my feeling that they were thoroughly incompetent - was perhaps my own prejudice. That surely I was missing something. I have kept my incredulity largely to myself.

@StatisticallyChallenged - its an interesting analogy! I only really did crime and public law when I was in the business so I can't speak with knowledge.

However most people would agree that it is fundamentally unreasonable (with very few exceptions) retrospectively change government policies as they apply to individuals. Normally it goes without saying that it is unlikely to lawful in many contexts because of the very unfairness you identify.

I am angry at the attempt to jail an innocent man. Angry at the preaching and daft policies and pushing through gender reform and Hate Crime bills under cover of darkness, sheer incompetence and at them having the chance of independence for Scotland and just letting it go.

I worry that Fabiani will go easy on her. She retires in May and has nothing to lose now.
It beggars belief that the “independent”committee is chaired by a woman who was sacked by Salmond, and who has just received a 1mill bung into a company of which she is director, from Sturgeon.
The corruption is on a truly jaw dropping level

@dementedma shit I didn't know that. The Twitter vibe is very much if you get rid of Sturgeon then you need to do the same with BJ and co but actually it looks like the SG are doing the same just better attempt at making it look like nothing to see here
