As the conversation is interesting and the thread is nearly full. Does it matter if Sturgeon is guilty - do you know or care? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/scotsnet/4153007-Does-it-matter-if-Sturgeon-is-guilty-do-you-know-or-care

@dementedma

I worry that Fabiani will go easy on her. She retires in May and has nothing to lose now. It beggars belief that the “independent”committee is chaired by a woman who was sacked by Salmond, and who has just received a 1mill bung into a company of which she is director, from Sturgeon. The corruption is on a truly jaw dropping level
ShockAngry that's shocking
Bejazzled · 02/03/2021 21:08

I’m reading elsewhere that the legal advice released is redacted? Omg, ig that is the redacted version, how bad was the original!

Oh and sturgeon’s sister seems to think that NS is Mary Queen of Scots...

Cismyfatarse · 02/03/2021 21:09

I actually can't keep up with the revelations. They just keep on coming and each one makes you think it is the last. And then there is another. And another.

Also, telling lies to parliament is a matter for resignation. But if she lies under oath tomorrow, does that constitute perjury?

Please can someone explain this in very
Basic terms

I dont know enough background for it to make sense.

Thanks.

LexMitior · 02/03/2021 21:11
@dementedma shit I didn't know that. The Twitter vibe is very much if you get rid of Sturgeon then you need to do the same with BJ and co but actually it looks like the SG are doing the same just better attempt at making it look like nothing to see here
I don't want to derail this thread but actually Boris Johnson has stopped short of doing what Nicola Sturgeon is alleged to have done. By contrast, he appears to have had his bottom tanned by lawyers in England rather effectively. Not that he didn't try to use his power, but its a very exceptional PM that gets the entire Supreme Court to say that he is wrong on prorogation, and even when he did his little "specific and limited way" game during Brexit I note that in the end it was withdrawn (not that it should have got that far). Did he try - yes absolutely!

He and she have the same instincts but he is limited by Westminster and the operation of the law there.

Selkiesarereal · 02/03/2021 21:12

bejazzled I was just thinking the same. Just how much worse can this actually get.

anon444877 · 02/03/2021 21:12

Comparing Nicola to Diana? Blimey, I have heard it all. I can see her family would be very worried about her, but she is the one responsible here.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 02/03/2021 21:12

@Bejazzled

Her hypocrisy and self righteousness knows no bounds...
I can't stand her but that sounds fair enough. Lets her what she has to say. Be honest we will all be annoyed if she quits without speakingGrin
IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 02/03/2021 21:13

Thanks @LexMitior your posts are helping me understand the legal stuff. What I meant was NS constantly points the finger at them as being so bad when actually she's been doing the same thing? Have I got that right?

Yes all good! - that's covered by a political principle "takes one to know one"
TheShadowyFeminist · 02/03/2021 21:15

I'm only just catching up with all of this now.

Duncan Hamilton's statement has absolutely sunk a lot of what NS has thus far claimed in terms of her prior knowledge of events, and the meeting on 2nd April.

The legal advice is absolutely damning. Not only did they fail to concede the JR so they could reset the process & restart an investigation but they chose a path that resulted in a wrecking ball through their entire civil case.

I'm shocked it was this clear in the legal advice. I thought maybe there was room for interpretation & even a balance on prospects of success. But it's utterly damning.

All just before NS appears to give her side tomorrow. I just cannot imagine how she'll be able to emerge from this evidence session with any credibility. I might still be wrong, but today's revelations are damning.

I've not even touched on the LA & CA appearance today. I thought Jackie Baillie's Q on the CA being willing to hand over the decision report to the police without considering whether the complainants would be impacted was very revealing. He certainly danced around the answer to avoid saying what she had uncovered from just asking the Q.

Sooooo much to read through. I'll be back in a bit once that's done!

Oh my, so it'll all come down to "DON'T YOU KNOW WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC!!!"

😯 well that has definitely made my jaw drop. Are you serious!
TheShadowyFeminist · 02/03/2021 21:19

"Also, telling lies to parliament is a matter for resignation. But if she lies under oath tomorrow, does that constitute perjury?"

There's a statement she's made already, to the court, which mirrors what she's claimed about the 2nd April meeting in her committee evidence/statements to the parliament. I can't remember where it's referenced but that was already flagged as problematic for her. This was I think an affidavit?

I'll need to some digging on that to clarify.

WouldBeGood · 02/03/2021 21:20

I wasn’t aware of the Fabiani link either... just jaw dropping

Lbnc2021 · 02/03/2021 21:21

NS sister sells younique make up.

No I’m not saying this as a ‘yer da sells Avon’ type joke, I’m being serious. That’s how seriously you can take her sister ConfusedSmile

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/03/2021 21:21

The legal advice culminated in this

"28 December: Junior Counsel indicate (& it seems clear that Senior concurs) that, in light of their professional duties , they will require to withdraw from acting on 3 January if matters are not resolved by then."

@Bejazzled - is that actually Sturgeons sister?

It's not like Sturgeon tried to put someone in jail or anything is it?

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 02/03/2021 21:23

@lexMitior I have no doubt Boris is as bad if not worse. However we expect that of Boris. God only knows how he gets away with it.

Saint Nicola though has been so up her own bum and acting principled. Even someone like me who can't stand her wouldn't have expected all this.

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/03/2021 21:24

@WaxOnFeckOff

I can't work twitter so relying on the good folks here for the info.
Gotta love our humour some wag on Twitter “Bye bye Nicola, get down to Aldi for some shifts” 🤣

This is a very realistic attitude! Never give politicians your heart. They will break it and more causally than anyone else.

People really need to stop endorsing personalities when they vote (Boris Johnson exploits this greatly) and actually look at what they do. If you vote for a personality then do not be surprised when the substance is wanting.

Selkiesarereal · 02/03/2021 21:30

A wee question to the legal bods. I am hugely paraphrasing here but the spectator reports that the government lawyers nearly perjured themselves.

If they had and by accident, ie they hadn’t been made aware of the facts and then subsequently discovered that they had done so, what would they have done, would they have to disclose to the court?

This is purely a theoretical question and just for my own knowledge.

StormzyinaTCup · 02/03/2021 21:32

actually can't keep up with the revelations. They just keep on coming and each one makes you think it is the last. And then there is another. And another.

It's a bit like a 24hour vomiting bug, you hope with each visit to the bathroom it will be the last, then you get that awful sensation of saliva in the mouth and off you go again (and again).

Things are being vomited out left right and centre at the moment (sorry if anyone is having a late dinner!).
