So following from another thread, this is to talk about our aspirational holiday plans and trips for the coming months.

We have a few things planned, but all cancellable mostly with Scottish back ups. So keen to get away somewhere.

I'd love a wee break but with Mr Groovee, I'm not sure how things will be x

rookiemere · 28/02/2021 16:12

Fingers crossed for MrGrovee, I'm glad at least he's in hospital.

I’ve just spent a whole afternoon looking at various holidays but I seem to be paralysed with indecision and can’t book anything

Lidlfix · 28/02/2021 16:15

Have July flights to a sunny destination booked (rescheduled from October break, rescheduled from summer holidays) and DH thinks it might happen. I am looking at Yorkshire coastline Whitby has quirky accommodation and I can relive my English Lit degree modules and indulge myself in some gothic reading.

Jellycatspyjamas · 28/02/2021 16:22

I’ve just had flights to Greece at the end of April cancelled, going to look at a U.K. based holiday in summer instead of the European trip we had planned, though I’m planning a break with friends towards the end of the year. Difficult to know what to plan at the moment but I’m longing to go somewhere.

WaxOnFeckOff · 28/02/2021 16:22

I have 2 days booked in Edinburgh in a self catering apartment but that's w/b 19th. I've not cancelled as I don't need to pay until the week before but can't see that happening. Then I have a week in the Lakes booked that finishes on Boris's magic 21st June. I'm fairly hopeful we'll get to that and maybe get out for meals - maybe?

This was supposed to be a big holiday year (lots of special events) but don't want to gear up for something to be disappointed.

RaraRachael · 28/02/2021 16:27

I don't want to book too far in advance but I'm hearing that holiday cottages in England are getting booked up quickly and charging exorbitant rates, so I'm stuck.
Too much faffing around last year getting refunds to want to go through that again, I think we'll settle for a Scottish holiday and hope for decent weather, then plan something better for the tattie holidays.

anon444877 · 28/02/2021 16:28

Italy booked for first two weeks of July - not yet cancelled as dh still clinging to hope. No back ups booked, gulp.

jabbathebutt · 28/02/2021 16:30

DH wants to go abroad and wants to hold off until we can so it might be a last minute booking for us. I still don't think it will happen though.

Icannever · 28/02/2021 16:34

Thinking of Scotland for summer holidays, Cornwall for two weeks in October when it’s cheap and quiet and Tenerife before Christmas, also cheap and quiet 😀. Those all seem achievable but I can’t let myself hope. Ideally I’d like to go away with friends or family as the kids would prefer it but it’s such a risk booking something bigger

WouldBeGood · 28/02/2021 16:36

Ooh, joining in. I love holidays! DP is sixty this year and we were meant to be doing a big retirement trip, maybe driving across the southern states.

That obviously won’t be happening, but hoping for some trips.

OldRailer · 28/02/2021 17:15

Following for inspiration!

Dinnafashyersel · 28/02/2021 17:33

I'm up for a big bit of holiday inspiration. DD1 is talking about buying a rail ticket and taking the train up the West Highlands with DD3. Also planning trips down the Ayrshire coast to see their Grannie's beach. If all that goes well they might well pitch up at their other Grannie and my cousins down South. Ulterior motive being a trip to Legoland.

WouldBeGood · 28/02/2021 17:38

I do have a night in Helensburgh booked via itison 😂 Disturbingly, even that seems ambitious

shouldistop · 28/02/2021 17:49

We have a holiday in Portugal booked or a Cornwall back up. Fingers crossed we get to go on one of them.
I had planned Millport for Easter and the May weekends but obviously Easter isn't happening now Sad

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 28/02/2021 17:51

We have trips abroad book for the summer and October half term (both re-booked from last year). I'm assuming we won't be able to go in the summer, but I've got everything crossed for October.

I did a lot of hand wringing around booking a uk break this year, but decided that if we can't go abroad but can move around the uk, then we'll concentrate on visiting the friends and family we haven't seen for the last year. I may come to regret this, but I guess availability is low and costs are high already!

WouldBeGood · 28/02/2021 18:20

I’m kind of thinking if DS not allowed back to school I might just go somewhere with him.

rookiemere · 28/02/2021 18:42

@WouldBeGood do you mean during summer term ?

anon444877 · 28/02/2021 18:42

Where have people looked for Scottish summer holiday options?

Nipoleonthenoncommital · 28/02/2021 18:43

Anyone any suggestions of uk dog friendly accommodation? We are getting a puppy in a few weeks ☺️ I know Center Parcs, just wondering if I'm missing any other gems.

WouldBeGood · 28/02/2021 18:48

Yes, @rookiemere. Rather than just sitting here growing fatter and sadder

anon444877 · 28/02/2021 18:50

A lot of Sawdays is pet friendly, you can select for pets.

Don't go to the Clachaig Inn and get a room near the pub, I do know that - ddog used to poke his nose out of the curtain and woof until the last person from the pub had made their way to bed.

rookiemere · 28/02/2021 18:55

@Nipoleonthenoncommital there's loads of cottages that take dogs.

I've just been doing booking.com searches and you can add pet friendly as a filter, but there's even specialist companies like www.caninecottages.com who do what they say on the tin Grin. I've just been avoiding anything that isn't fully refundable though for obvious reasons.

Oh and another place we went to - bizarrely without dog as dog sitter was keen to get away from her home - Hillcroft caravan park at Pooley Bridge, even has a heated dog shower, get one of the more expensive lodges near the front. Lake District ridiculously dog friendly but lots of sheep so rookiedog has to be on a lead.

WouldBeGood · 28/02/2021 18:56

Gatehouses of Fleet have lovely looking dog friendly cottages and it’s a lovely area

littlbrowndog · 28/02/2021 18:58

We are planning a trip to fife to a friends.

That’s it. Gawd knows when that will be
