Tiers on Tour

So following from another thread, this is to talk about our aspirational holiday plans and trips for the coming months.

We have a few things planned, but all cancellable mostly with Scottish back ups. So keen to get away somewhere.

Wondering if I need a Lothians back up for my Crail end of May weekend as we're in Edinburgh so if tiers are extended to that at least it would be a change of scene.

I would book with c/x allowed. Supposed to hear on Tuesday, I think, our route map depending on data? We got to meet 4 outside 3 days earlier :-)

news.sky.com/story/france-to-ease-coronavirus-travel-restrictions-boosting-uk-holidaymakers-hopes-12242734

Sky news on French travel. French travel minister to ease restrictions for several countries.
UK Global Travel Taskforce will update on 12/4 regarding international travel.

anon444877 · 11/03/2021 17:43

ha my DH has already eagerly sent me this French travel news! fingers crossed.

anon444877 · 16/03/2021 15:04

Well dh certainly and his holiday hopes up now!

WouldBeGood · 16/03/2021 15:08

Allez!

anon444877 · 16/03/2021 15:11

er hello tui, yes book me 4 tickets on the first place to anywhere hot. But still not quite enough certainty, I've read the small print and it seems international not possible for 'some time' after May 17.

Tempted to take a punt on a late summer holiday European vacation...

Coquohvan · 16/03/2021 19:51

Booked for Greece September today need some heat to look forward too. Jet2 be ok for move or refund if c/x.
Our lakes trip for end April looks goodish.
Doubts about getting over to our French place late June.

fandabbydoozy · 18/03/2021 07:55

see the countries that are letting in the vaccinated, is that one or both jags? I am 40 so no jag yet.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 18/03/2021 19:29

It is deeply ironic that countries with less than stellar vaccination rates are demanding people from other countries have vaccines before they let them in.

anon444877 · 18/03/2021 21:30

I know at this rate the issue isn't only when we can go, but that other countries won't want travellers because they haven't managed to get their high risk groups covered.

RaraRachael · 20/03/2021 18:10

I'm totally confused. When are we allowed to go for a break in a self catering place or hotel? It's going to be too late for our Easter holidays but would like to go away for a weekend as soon as we're allowed a bit of freedom.

latissimusdorsi · 20/03/2021 18:57

@RaraRachael 26th April for Scotland

WouldBeGood · 20/03/2021 19:05

I’d book a hotel but not with no drink for meals

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 20/03/2021 20:40

We've booked a weekend self catering in fife in May. I'm hoping we'll be able to get wine with a meal inside by then. Grin

anon444877 · 21/03/2021 10:49

Cracked and booked Lapland for pre Christmas for 4 nights - dh appalled, expect will be naff from an adult POV! But increasingly clear summer holidays in Europe v unlikely...

Scrambling to book October half term away now.

rookiemere · 21/03/2021 17:46

Glad you booked something @anon444877 , even if it is a bit random Wink.

For October half term my friend convinced me to book flights to Tenerife in May with Easyjet and if they're cancelled you can apparently shift them for free to whatever other dates you want, am now slightly regretting this as it seems like a bit of a gamble but can always change to something else if it doesn't materialise.

OP posts:
anon444877 · 21/03/2021 19:07

Random is about right - wanted sun so booked a snow holiday! Tui and jet2 and easyJet are pretty good at rebooking things if May doesn't happen!

Myfrenchfriend · 23/03/2021 13:58

Where our house is in France had 51% positive return on tests yesterday.
Think France will move to RED zone. Poor sods so little getting vaccinated.

fandabbydoozy · 24/03/2021 07:31

I still have no idea where to go or what to book. DH doesn't want to go anywhere that isn't abroad and says the UK is boring, same weather, over priced. I agree but where else can we go and where in the UK is different and fun for a family with a teenager (and a dog)?

Cornwall is all booked up (and too far DH says).

Scotland - "we can do anytime" says DH

So where then? Sad

Going to maybe hold off til June to see if the abroad travel situation changes although unlikely we will have had both jags by then.

WouldBeGood · 24/03/2021 07:59

It’s really difficult @fandabbydoozy.

I’m holding off too, except a couple of nights in London with DS in September which I booked (cancellable) a while ago. We usually go at least once a year.

Because of the overpricing in the UK, I’m thinking of some short trips to “undesirable” cities and areas. I like exploring new places and might find a gem 😃 Not with DS though

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/03/2021 08:22

Fandabby, have a look at rookin House Farm in the lakes as it has loads of activities for a teenager. Doesn't really do accommodation but you could look nearby. I appreciate it's likely to be the same weather we get here but it's a change of scenery and stuff to do.

latissimusdorsi · 24/03/2021 08:41

@fandabbydoozy I would say Lake District or city breaks. York is good with teenagers. Lots of history and Viking stuff and nice independent shops.
Heard a travel guy on radio saying lot of families going to be priced out of holidays abroad this year. Even if they're allowed there's likely to be testing on way out and back adding over a £100 per person onto price

fandabbydoozy · 24/03/2021 08:47

been to the lake district before but we're not really an outdoorsy family so not sure if its the right place for DD

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 24/03/2021 08:56

Sounds like you need a city break fan. Liverpool? Birmingham? Leeds?
