Looks like railing is still needed.

Here is the judgment feee zone to do it.

I'm so depressed about it today. If SG persist on going on infection rates rather than hospitalisations and deaths our S1-S3 DCs will never be back to school.

How can JL think a plea to be patient and a wee cheeky chappy smile cuts the mustard?

PoloMintPatty · 26/02/2021 09:04
@PoloMintPatty so I suppose that will slow down the number of people receiving their first doses.
That was my assumption! Short term now, even if the vaccination numbers continue, we won't see more people being covered. If that makes sense

shouldistop · 26/02/2021 09:06

@rookiemere I know, why does it matter how many people are infected as long as the hospitals aren't at risk of being overwhelmed? The routemap out really should be linked to vaccination and hospitalisation rates, not cases alone.

fluffyugg · 26/02/2021 09:07

@rookiemere I know what you're saying but bear in mind anything could happen...look at the u turn over blended learning last year for example. That's what I'm clinging to 🤞

Lockdownbear · 26/02/2021 09:07

Now it may be that we can get everybody back in three weeks or it may be that we get the rest of primary back, the rest of S4,5,6 back, who are the certificated kids, and then S1-3, unfortunately, and I am really sorry for the houses that are housing S1-S3s, they may not get back for a little while.

This was the JL comment last night. Tells you maybe/ maybe not but they seem to fire out ideas and see how the reaction is.

Anecdotally only it's the age range / lack of underlying issues of people in the ITU that's concerning the medical people that I know. In this area that is.

Sootess · 26/02/2021 09:23

The big problem is there is now social distancing in secondary schools. They need to get S4-6 back so the teachers can properly assess and grade them for exams. They haven't even done their prelims yet!!
So the poor S1-3 are being thrown under the bus!

anon444877 · 26/02/2021 09:28

It's madness rookie fingers crossed the school situation looks better.

It's crazy all this 'these years are more important than these years' - it's all important.

WouldBeGood · 26/02/2021 09:30

It’s a disgrace. Especially when England are back full time in a week or so.

I get really pissed of as they never offer any evidence for all this.

It’s not going down well. Even my quiet Facebook people are popping up with the latest from JL.

In happier news, I made my first ever successful poached eggs, just straight in the water. Kitchen goddess.

PoloMintPatty · 26/02/2021 09:35

@WouldBeGood just drop an egg in boiling water? Is that it??? Thought you need a special pan?

rookiemere · 26/02/2021 09:38

I know @anon444877 it just really sucks for that age group. I got the rage this morning that our online metafit class was being moved because majority of class attendees have DCs in primary not secondary school. Of course nobody's fault at all.

I also know it's right that primary age should be prioritised - less likely to spread and DPs can't work from home, and exam ages.

I could just do without JL patronising me and asking me to be patient when I don't know what the key indicators are to make a decision one way or the other. If it's just the weight of popular opinion then GET MY S3 BACK INTO SCHOOL NOW.

More younger people in ICU without underlying conditions is a definite concern so share some figures with us, tell us what numbers would steer the decision.

TonightMatthew · 26/02/2021 09:38

I've never managed a poached egg successfully. It's not helped by DH proclaiming they are horrible Hmm so they rarely get made in this house. You apparently crack it into a 'rolling boil' of water but I can't do it.

rookiemere · 26/02/2021 09:39

Oh sorry would be good - missed your attempt to navigate the conversation to happier things. A teaspoon of vinegar in the water is my top tip for good poached eggs. I have one every morning on toast and smoked salmon.

WouldBeGood · 26/02/2021 09:42

No, @rookiemere no apologies necessary. I’m feeling very bleak on this issue and it does help that it’s not just me!

Oh will try the vinegar trick. That's my Elevenses sorted!

I wish they'd get everyone back to school. Mine have gone back to nursery/preschool this week and it's been life changing. I feel terrible that there are still so many at home at such important stages of their education with parents struggling on. Utter shite.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 26/02/2021 09:44

If the level for the entire UK has been reduced from 5 to 4 on the basis that hospitals won't be overwhelmed within 21 days, surely they can't keep us locked up much longer? Can they?

And of course it's spreading in supermarkets and houses - NOTHING ELSE IS OPEN because you've closed everything.

OldRailer · 26/02/2021 09:45

I stir the water in the pan and when it's swirling gently drop the egg into the middle.

WouldBeGood · 26/02/2021 09:45

On the eggs, annoyingly I got instructions sent from DD and they worked:
Boil kettle, water in pan, wait until wee bubbles start appearing down the bottom of the pan, crack eggs in, two to three minutes, fish them out!

Not actually bubbling water. No vinegar.

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/02/2021 09:46

Poached eggs. Crack into a bowl. Have a deep pan of boiling water, little bit of vinegar. Pop eggs in, best for no more than two eggs at a time. Time for exactly 2 minutes and remove with slotted spoon.

Foolproof.

OldRailer · 26/02/2021 09:46

Ah sounds a good method. Will try.

WouldBeGood · 26/02/2021 09:46

I don’t like the taste of vinegar in my egg or the smell of it in the water

OP posts:
rookiemere · 26/02/2021 09:47

But lots of things are open.

I went to the dentist last week and whilst I was treated like walking Bubonic plague (very nicely) the receptionists were sitting beside each other - no masks- and rest of the staff weren't distancing either. At the garage when I took the car in for MOT, no masks either although lots of ventilation and about 5 of them working in close proximity.

In either of those workplaces if one person got it, then they all would.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying those places should be shut, but getting to zero covid infections will be damn near impossible.

rookiemere · 26/02/2021 09:48

Egg doesn't taste of vinegar if you just use a couple of drops.

anon444877 · 26/02/2021 09:51

Well I know what I'm having for lunch now.
I have a feeling it'll go horribly wrong though.
