New thread, imaginatively titled.

In a horrible way I'm slightly glad that vaccination doesn't allow the vaccinated to live their lives freely.

The sight of elderly people off on holidays and being able to see each other inside again whilst I'm still banned, would probably break me. NB this is not agist as would apply to whatever bit of the population was getting the vaccine first.

Or maybe conversely it would have cheered me up to know there was some light at the end of the tunnel, rather than a fire leading to another endless tunnel.

WouldBeGood · 18/02/2021 09:25

@WaxOnFeckOff as long as they’re focussing on the stuff that matters 🙄

Bloody flags. Get my s1 back in school then wave your bloody flags

@rookiemere we should all be allowed out once the vulnerable are jagged

We have a vaccine. It works. Wahey! Free us.

Then concentrate on sorting out the NHS.

It as pointed out here a nationalist narrative. Us v them. It's got the potential to get very nasty.

WouldBeGood · 18/02/2021 09:54

They need to get out of the central belt and down to Dumfries and Galloway and Berwick and see the ridiculous nature of trying stop travel to and from England.

Distant relative owned a farm which straddled the border! How's that gonna work then?
WouldBeGood · 18/02/2021 09:58

Exactly! It can’t 🤷🏻‍♀️

Does anyone know/heard from their school what is actually happening with p1-3 next week? Just received the p2 learning grid...

jabbathebutt · 18/02/2021 10:09

zero covid sounds great, not gonna happen though.

Chrysanthemum5 · 18/02/2021 10:15

I don't understand the logic of zero cases - haven't we been told endlessly that we will need to get used to living with Covid? Why is zero cases the aim?

I just want to go to a cafe! or a shop, or for my children to get back to school, or for them to be able to mix freely with friends, or for them to get back to their hobbies.

Thank you for this thread, I was beginning to feel I was the only one who was fed up

littlbrowndog · 18/02/2021 10:34

I was listening to dr Chris smith who is a consultant virologist at addenbrookes in Cambridge and also the founder of the naked scientist

It was on radio Scotland from 9-10 this morning

The best sense I have ever heard spoken about the virus

He did say we will never eliminate Covid as it comes from nature unlike measles or polio which is human

So we have to learn to live with it and now as we have the vaccine and are vaccinating the vulnerable and elderly it will become a virus which we will hardly notice same as flu which we have accepted

Also regarding the variants he said it will just be like whack a mole as we do with the flu vaccine

He also said that the 4 nations should have a joined up approach as then messages become clear to everyone rather than confusion

In his hospital where he works in infection control he said a simple message actually they have found works better in controlling infection rather than confusing messages

He did also say that if we spent money now in the NHS in overhauling it would pay for itself in years to come. He said NHS is knackered after 60-70 years and it needs the overhaul

He was very positive about the future. But stressed that we will not be able to eliminate the virus

I never usually listen to a whole programme but this was fascinating

I think it will be on catch up

titsbumfannythelot · 18/02/2021 10:38

Thanks for this @littlbrowndog the zero Covid nonsense is really rubbing my rhubarb.

littlbrowndog · 18/02/2021 10:39

He did also say that sometimes we are seeing politics involved in some of the messages from governments and WHO and EU

littlbrowndog · 18/02/2021 10:41

Yes titsbumfanny

Have a listen to it

It cheered me up to hear sense spoken and backed up with science and no politics

noname55 · 18/02/2021 10:42

Thanks for sharing that @littlbrowndog really interesting! Sounds much more realistic than anything coming from the Scottish Government.

littlbrowndog · 18/02/2021 10:47

He knows how to communicate clearly and simply which some of our politicians and scientific advisors should learn

Callisto1 · 18/02/2021 11:10

@TheCanyon we heard that P1-3 will go back with staggered starts same as before Christmas and that they will have a similar process of checking in on them as at the start in August.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/02/2021 11:10

Also a decent little clip from Australia on the lives/economy debate. Its only a couple of minutes

littlbrowndog · 18/02/2021 11:40

That’s a good vid wax.

Another sensible person speaking

noname55 · 18/02/2021 11:45

@WaxOnFeckOff she's spot on! Hope to see more people like this speaking up.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/02/2021 11:57

I also have one with Sir Charles Walker speaking sense but as he's a Tory MP I better not post it as otherwise the flame throwers will come out! If anyone wants to see it drop me a PM.

I think you're safe, this seems to be a thread which hates all parties equally Grin
rogueantimatter · 18/02/2021 12:29

600 and something new cases reported today. Yessss. The high number of yesterday was depressing. Hopefully yesterday's figures included some that should have been reported on Monday or Tuesday.

anon444877 · 18/02/2021 12:39

Ah freedom.

I was wondering who I was voting for this morning in the shower. The greens and Lib Dem's have been good locally around me but I don't like the green Indy stance or trans. I do like the Lib Dems but If Labour don't make a good showing the knives will be out for Keir starmer, so probably a return to Labour but I'm not loving his covid stances. That said, he's been great on other stuff like cladding.

On the whole though, slim pickings. Several reasons to dislike any party.

There not a whole lot else to think about!
