Guilt free railing

The place to vent, moan, rail, cheer: whatever you’re feeling about Covid, and the rules, and life and the universe.

I’ve started this as I’m feeling scared and fed up with increasing restrictions despite vaccines. I feel that what should be a more positive time is instead bringing more and more doom.

I want the simple pleasures of life back, as well as all the big stuff.

Good article. Some common sense from Chris Whitty

WouldBeGood · 16/02/2021 09:48

Yes! Not just doom!

And I’ve also read a great paper on how vaccine resistance does not evolve readily as drug resistance can.

Bit more hopeful this morning.
Pretty sensible article on the BBC this morning on learning to live with the virus

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55985916
Interesting that the BBC are carrying some opposition to zero covid. But to me this makes sense. To begin with people tolerated the restrictions mostly through fear, I think now a lot of people are less fearful anyway and are complying either because they want to protect others/the NHS or because they dont want to break the rules. In a few months once most people are vaccinated and it is clear that the impact on the NHS is reduced and people will not play ball with significant restrictions. I mean, why would they - you've had the vaccine and so has everyone you want to see and the evidence shows it stops severe infections (assuming it continues to) for even the mutations but you still can't see people? At that point in think the risk becomes too abstract for most people to play along

DeepfriedPizza · 16/02/2021 11:27

Does anyone know when Nicola is on? Can't see anthing on the BBC schedule or Scottish parliment tv website

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/02/2021 11:28

Tuesday is normally about 2.15 ish I think.

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/02/2021 11:30

Yep, politics scotland at 2.15 bbc1

DeepfriedPizza · 16/02/2021 11:36

Cheers. Feels like I am just waiting for bad news anyway

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/02/2021 11:39

No doubt it will be strung out so expect to wait a while for the schools news. Unless it is good news and then it might get thrown in earlier..

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/02/2021 11:57

So if we tune in about 2.35 she might be approaching the point?

Chasingamy · 16/02/2021 12:02

Eurgh fingers crossed everyone!! If schools in England are opening on Mar 8th I’m hopeful early years might go back as planned

anon444877 · 16/02/2021 12:15

statistically 😂

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 16/02/2021 12:18

I feel sick waiting and then she talks a random amount of shite before she gets to the point. I also want to know her plans to ease lockdown. Still feel like I'm in the 16 day circuit breaker from September!

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/02/2021 12:37

Still feel like I'm in the 16 day circuit breaker from September!

So how many days have we left to go on that circuit breaker now?

titsbumfannythelot · 16/02/2021 12:41

Eleventy billion?

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 16/02/2021 12:44

😂😂 I know we had a brief break in December at some point because we went for lunch but I think had to close at 6 and no booze?

I'm in such a mood today because Teams went down this morning so lecture didn't happen and I'm having tech issues with my laptop so just sitting here stewing 😂

I would like to see numbers in which things will be relaxed and to keep her happy numbers in which things can be tightened (I do not want this but in the interest of fairness)

Summer here last year was shite. Guilt tripped for going to Loch Lomond, irresponsible if we went on holiday, no music in pubs and again more guilt trips I'm not buying into that shit again

And breatheee 😂

anon444877 · 16/02/2021 12:44

I've got no faith that the scot govt actually believe in freedom at this stage - how much better it'll be for the NHS if people socially distance every winter. Think of the savings! This time in 2 hours we might have some information...

Sweetpotatoaddict · 16/02/2021 12:56

I read somewhere that the suggestion that retail opening was looking like the end of march. This is going to be so slow again.
What I’m desperately searching for is decisions that promote my WELL-BEING to be made. So that I can ensure that if I get covid I am as well as possible to try to fight it. I’m accepting of the restrictions around gatherings etc but not of the you shall not travel a distance to go for a hill walk or a mountain bike.

applesandpears33 · 16/02/2021 12:58

I feel sick waiting. I have a DC in S5 who is lazy and doesn't seem to realise that this year is important and will decide which course is available at uni or college. Everything has been so cosseted this year that I don't think it has sunk in that the grades are actually important. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed we don't get blended learning as Edinburgh Council were proposing only one day a week and even then there was only a one in three chance a young person would get their teacher as each class would be divided in three with the other 2/3 being supervised by another teacher.

Sweetpotatoaddict · 16/02/2021 13:15

Just had a whole load of messages from school about supporting your child through home learning, hopefully they don’t have advance warning. My ds needs to go back to school.

anon444877 · 16/02/2021 13:29

dd's p1 teacher was very hopeful about them going back! I doubt they know for sure.

LizzieMacQueen · 16/02/2021 13:30

I asked this on the other thread but it went unanswered so will ask you guys .... what happened to the voucher we were going to get to boost shopping? It was announced before Christmas but never materialised (then shops shut of course). Does anyone know?

shouldistop · 16/02/2021 13:31

@LizzieMacQueen was there an official announcement for that? I thought it was just press rumours?

Callisto1 · 16/02/2021 13:34

Our school has been very quiet. But I guess today is the first day back since Feb break.

And sorry Lizzie it's the first time I hear about any vouchers. But if there's any going I'm well up for it Grin

applesandpears33 · 16/02/2021 13:35

I think the younger years will go back as planned and the older ones will go back but only to do stuff like art, woodwork, music practicals or prelims that were not done before Christmas. It seems unlikely they will have all years back before Easter and if the senior pupils are back there will need to be social distancing, perhaps spreading one class over two classrooms.

Callisto1 · 16/02/2021 13:37

Are they supposed to announce what happens to the kids above P3?
