Guilt free railing

The place to vent, moan, rail, cheer: whatever you’re feeling about Covid, and the rules, and life and the universe.

I’ve started this as I’m feeling scared and fed up with increasing restrictions despite vaccines. I feel that what should be a more positive time is instead bringing more and more doom.

I want the simple pleasures of life back, as well as all the big stuff.

Pavements so dangerous at moment

We were slipping and slithering

Oh imagine going to the cinema. Wouldn’t that be great 😌

littlbrowndog · 13/02/2021 14:45

Or going swimming 😖

Or just going anywhere

WouldBeGood · 13/02/2021 14:55

Boris has said today that their roadmap will likely be schools, then shops, then hospitality by April. At least he gives a bit of hope! Though still a long time away

@WaxOnFeckOff

Fab material Stats. It is indeed cold out there.

I've just vented on Sainsburys customer service messaging. Picked up my order and all my fresh food needs eaten by Wednesday, including all DSs cake stash by tomorrow and 12 yoghurts by Tuesday. We are supposed to limit to one shop a week. DS is contemplating the 2 chocolate croissants, 2 Maple and pecan Danish pastries and 4 large pieces of chocolate shortbread he needs to eat by tomorrow as then he has 4 eclairs and a family sized trifle by Monday. They told me my raspberries were short dated for tomorrow though but not about everything else... rant over :o

That's pretty crap. I'm getting a bit annoyed with sainsburys for doing stuff like this. I thought we were being good by not going into the shop, but when they bring us short life stuff, and really bad fruit you do wonder whether you'd be better off doing it yourself. I know it's not really the right season, but please don't bring already mouldy satsumas and pears with gouges out of them... Yes we can refuse them if we notice, but then we're left without fruit for the week.

They also seem to be discontinuing my favoured brand of shampoo the bastards. DH does the order and pointed out they didn't have the flavour I usually get so offered me "kerosene and plum" or "olive butter" instead... (turned out to be "keratin" and "shea butter and olive" when I delved, but this is why I need to give him very, very specific instructions).

I think we'll need to open up hospitality by Easter, surely to god.
I'd love to go to Millport for Easter weekend, please, please, please!!

@StatisticallyChallenged

am I the only one who is a slave to their bladder

My bladder was a blessing the other night - waking up for a pee meant I caught a major leak when it had only covered the kitchen floor.

Oh God. Was there much damage? That kind of thing going wrong really worries me!
titsbumfannythelot · 13/02/2021 15:03

Just drove around in the snow for an hour with a Costa from the drive thru as there's not else to do.

Counting down the hours until I can have some Prosecco.

Groovee · 13/02/2021 15:06

I had to go to B&Q to get new door handles as our kitchen one broke 🙄. Ended up finding wall paper for the dining room.

I'm guessing this was a leak that wasn't related to your own nightime bladder issue? :o

The worst thing is waking up needing a wee when it's close to getting up time. Don't mind at 2/3 or even 4 in the morning but when it's like close to 6 and i'm getting up at 7, I hate it.

WouldBeGood · 13/02/2021 15:09

To be fair to Sainsbury’s, the stuff on the shelves in my local store always has a really short use by date too 😃.

I was queuing (🙄) yesterday when an elderly chap began a chat railing against both Sainsbury’s and the ongoing lunacy with no end in sight - should have told him to join MN 😂

Yes that was my point, they specifically informed me at the raspberries dated the 14th but not about everything else dated the 14th. The other thing they do is if you order 2 of something, say 2 quiches so meant for one meal but need more than 1, they'll give them with completely different dates so one dated the 16th and the other the 20th which means that's another meal that needs to be eaten by 16th.

They also seem to be discontinuing my favoured brand of shampoo the bastards. DH does the order and pointed out they didn't have the flavour I usually get so offered me "kerosene and plum" or "olive butter" instead... I hate when they discontinue your favourites Sad.

I've also now ended with a stash of hand soap thingies. DH shouted through while I was doing the order, that we were nearly out - I asked if he was sure as I was pretty sure I'd taken 2 or 3 upstairs recently, nope he says, definitely on the last ones. Yep, ordered some in and went upstairs to put them away and we already had 4 plus a refill bag...

If i leaked that much the weight loss would be epic!!

We were lucky, we have a big kitchen diner with the kitchen part u shaped at one end. The floor of the kitchen part was totally covered with water and it was just coming round the side of the breakfast bar when I caught it. It's amtico flooring so it's basically a waiting game to see if it starts to swell and pop up or if I got it on time. Suspect we'll lose the under sink unit too as there's a hole in the bottom of it (for pipes) but the water will have got inside.

Thankfully, it's a new build and it seems they'll fix whatever needs fixed.

A few hours more and we'd have been in big insurance claim territory though as it was coming out at full blast tap speed so we'd probably have lost a lot of furniture, carpet, rugs etc.

You should have!

Dh went to get a prescription at Tesco last week and came back without as there was a big queue outside to get in. Yes dear, that's why i get a click and collect order and don't go to the shops anymore - folk that are out working seem to be living under a fucking rock.

I had a dream last night that I went to somewhere in Ayrshire and it was sunny and wonderful and there was miles of gorgeous beach and a big adventure playground for the kids, and and and...

Nothing against Ayrshire, I know it does have a lovely coastline. I just never thought my fantasy holiday dreams would begin and end at Troon.

Oh jeez! Glad you caught it and lucky that it will get fixed for you. We tried to get amtico in our last new build, got a firm from edinburgh to come and quote - we accepted and then they disappeared of the face of the earth. We hadn't paid anything but was just a pain having the delay so we ended up just picking vinyl flooring as the dust was doing my head in and we had two toddlers, one of which had only just learned to walk. Maybe just as well as we sold the house an moved about a year later so wouldn't have got the benefit of the extra loveliness.
titsbumfannythelot · 13/02/2021 15:22

God, we've all been conditioned to expect so much less.

shouldistop · 13/02/2021 15:23

@GoldenOmber aww I love Troon beach though, we had a lovely day out there in the summer. One of those days that just went on forever, ds1 playing so happily with some other kids, picnic and lots of icecream. Sometimes we get the train, we have to change and it takes a while but it adds to the adventure feel for ds.

shouldistop · 13/02/2021 15:24

@titsbumfannythelot I know, mad isn't it. I know we now won't be going abroad this year so just trying to look forward to what we might be able to do to cope with the disappointments!

Grin Maybe I am that elderly man..... I enjoy a good public rant every now and again.

And yes, the 2 things with wildly different dates is tedious. Also, when they substitute with what seems like something reasonable, but isn't (a pizza with a meat topping for the same brand veggie one for example. Well, no that won't work for the 2 veggies in our household, will it...) I wish they would let you put criteria for substitutions like other places. Bah. Maybe we should just try somewhere else! but I've got used to their website now

statistically Eeeeek! Well done bladder in that case. Fingers crossed for the flooring.

Callisto1 · 13/02/2021 15:31

For the first time in weeks I actually had a good day today. I went for a very long walk away from our usual paths and I had no children to carry and entertain. It was cold but really pretty. Craigmillar castle park was so quiet apart from the occasional sledger. Very different from our local hills which are like a ski resort.
Now I'm home again and the merry go round of feeding everyone and clearing up mess continues. And there is endless noise...

NotAnActualSheep · 13/02/2021 15:32

Grin This is what we can look forward to in 2023 if we behave...

GoldenOmber · 13/02/2021 15:34

I would absolutely kill for a trip to Largs and a sundae at Nardinis right now. Sad

Callisto1 · 13/02/2021 15:34

And yeah Sainsbury's click and collect is highly variable when it comes to best before dates and fruit. I remember we once got 12 pints of milk to drink in 2 days...

Nooooo. Don't give away our sledging secret.... It's great there. The molehills act like little speed bumps for added excitement, when there isn't as much snow.
WouldBeGood · 13/02/2021 15:36

@Callisto1 glad you’ve had a good day. Ive been so so lazy.

Will dream of those far flung shores for 2023...! @NotAnActualSheep
