The place to vent, moan, rail, cheer: whatever you’re feeling about Covid, and the rules, and life and the universe.

I’ve started this as I’m feeling scared and fed up with increasing restrictions despite vaccines. I feel that what should be a more positive time is instead bringing more and more doom.

I want the simple pleasures of life back, as well as all the big stuff.

Oh god yes.

titsbumfannythelot · 12/02/2021 18:00

This is absolute bullshit.

shouldistop · 12/02/2021 18:00

We broke some rules today Shock ds1 went to my mums house for a few hours this morning and then dm cuddled baby ds just inside the back door for the second time in his wee life.
And yes, I'll still be able to look an ICU nurse in the eye Hmm

NotAnActualSheep · 12/02/2021 18:02

@GoldenOmber

Well ffs. Wasn’t the plan P1-3 and nurseries back on 22nd so long as we were making progress on suppressing the virus? And now: we are making progress but it isn’t as fast as we’d like? 🤷‍♀️

If they move the date again that would be, what, the third different date they’ve given us for school return and then said “oops sorry no”? WONDERFUL I can’t WAIT to do another however many weeks homeschooling angry sad children with a toddler at home and trying to work at the same time.

Yes. All of this. I second your rail and anon's. It's the bloody goalpost-shifting again, and the "softening up" people via leaks and rumours before the Tuesday announcement. It's so annoying.
Dyinghouseplant · 12/02/2021 18:08

I'm so sick of this. I have a P4 so the school thing doesn't directly affect us but I suppose it'll be even longer before he's back. Shouldn't we all be in tier 3 (at least) by now? What happened to that?

NotAnActualSheep · 12/02/2021 18:10

And yes, frasersmummy I'm so sorry Flowers

I actually saw "spoof" versions of these adverts before the real ones (look me in the eyes and tell me it was worth cancelling my cancer operation... Look me in the eyes and tell me it was worth closing my school) and I was so confused trying to work out what point the SG were trying to make Blush (And I almost managed it... "These vulnerable people have suffered so much, so why should you be allowed to meet your friends. Don't cock it up more for them" ...The actual ones are much less subtle and nuanced)

shouldistop · 12/02/2021 18:11

@Dyinghouseplant levels seem to have disappeared in the same direction as 'the roadmap out of lockdown'.

Only 110 cases per 100k in my area now.

GoldenOmber · 12/02/2021 18:12

Protection levels are so retro.

I’m really old-school, I remember the 16-day Central Belt circuit breaker all the way back in October. Glad that only lasted 16 days and we have shops and household visits back now, hey?

shouldistop · 12/02/2021 18:13

@GoldenOmber god yeah. And was it not September we were told 2 weeks of no household visits?

shouldistop · 12/02/2021 18:14

I'm sure it was September as we had to cancel a trip away with my mum & step dad and that was September weekend.

Dyinghouseplant · 12/02/2021 18:14

@GoldenOmber oh god I did actually forget about that. It's just merged into one.

GoldenOmber · 12/02/2021 18:17

God, it probably was September. Has all fuzzed into a big haze of “just a little bit longer” by now.

I’m not even saying the measures they’ve done are wrong, but at least do your level best not to fuck people around with it. I don’t want info drip-dripped ahead of the next briefing and I am tired of this vagueness about what their criteria are for changing anything. Still angry they closed nurseries and only bothered telling us via an SG Twitter account over the weekend, while still cheerfully pointing us to all their websites saying “schools and nurseries will remain open in every Protection Level”.

Callisto1 · 12/02/2021 18:18

From what the gov said last time, and I watched it live and all the BBC news that reported it, it was if cases go down. There was no mention of speed. Just cases keep decreasing. So I would ignore all the hints and news speculation until Tuesday. I can't see how they could justify moving the date.

Maybe it's a slow news day and they are making a mountain out of a molehill.

Groovee · 12/02/2021 18:30

@frasersmummy 💐💐

anon444877 · 12/02/2021 18:33

They don't stick by what they say always though - the tiers never went down according to their rules, they were massively sticky downwards and very slick on the increase.

Anyway hope nobody frets all weekend, we can't change it so let's employ our by now vast array of distraction techniques.

frasersmummy · 12/02/2021 18:47

Oh ffs... Thought it was about the NHS then it was about the r number then it was about positivity.. Now it's about prevalence.

I'm. Sorry but I've lost complete faith in the scottish government

They don't care about anything apart from covid and independence.

I really hope we get a change in May

Callisto1 · 12/02/2021 19:07

Yes their obsession with independence above anything else is really annoying me and I've not lived in Scotland all that long.

I'm sorry for your loss @frasersmummy Flowers

That’s the thing though - loads of people (myself included) will be fretting about it now. It’s put me in a really down and upset mood and it’s just the start of half term here. Exactly the same as before Christmas when they announced schools wouldn’t be going back, just ruins the next few days as I feel on a massive downer which has implications for the rest of the family. Gah I’m just worn out by this all now. It’s hard to see the positives in anything. And then my 23 months old will come through with some toy looking so happy and excited and I feel even worse that I’m just so down about everything
titsbumfannythelot · 12/02/2021 19:18

So sorry for your loss @frasersmummy Thanks

titsbumfannythelot · 12/02/2021 19:21

We are led by a shower of incompetent tools. Changing the goals in the hope we lose track of things.

titsbumfannythelot · 12/02/2021 19:22

*changing the goalposts

Chasingamy · 12/02/2021 19:33

I hope it’s not true and the nurseries will still open. Not even for WFH with a toddler which is painful but for her own development and getting to see other children. I wonder if there is any evidence of spreading in nurseries in England as they’re still open

Chasingamy · 12/02/2021 19:35

So so sorry @frasersmummy that is just awful and it must be terrible every time those adverts come on

NotAnActualSheep · 12/02/2021 19:56

I completely agree with you. I just wrote a big rail on how at least BoJo sticks to dates he gives for relaxations, albeit he may then u turn, or it may be obviously the wrong decision... But I lost it. I can't be arsed to retype something that could be construed as me commenting favourably on BoJo... But frankly I no longer trust anything the SG says will happen on a particular date or when certain criteria are met. Which is annoying for me as an average member of the public, but how on earth can businesses/ schools/ childcare etc plan on this kind of shifting sand policy?!
StopTouchingYourFairyGarden · 12/02/2021 20:01

I met my DCs nursery teacher at the shop on Wednesday and she said they were almost certain, as certain as they can be, that the 22nd will go ahead. They've been told to prepare for it and are gearing up for it.

If they change the goalposts now I'll be devastated. We can just about hold it together for another week but children and adults REALLY need this to happen.
