Guilt free railing

The place to vent, moan, rail, cheer: whatever you’re feeling about Covid, and the rules, and life and the universe.

I’ve started this as I’m feeling scared and fed up with increasing restrictions despite vaccines. I feel that what should be a more positive time is instead bringing more and more doom.

I want the simple pleasures of life back, as well as all the big stuff.

I'm just outside Aberdeen and the snow is very deep here. I think that it will be slightly better towards the city centre. The small residential side streets are a nightmare -lots of cars getting stuck and needing a push, neighbours all out shovelling etc.

However the proper roads connecting the side streets are not too bad at all. The snow ploughs have been down several times the last few days and they are well gritted where I am. A bit slushy, but driveable. So I think the main roads should be ok.
The biggest challenge where I am is digging the car out of the drive and getting it out of the street! But if your son can stick to main roads as much as possible and avoid little side streets he should be OK.

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/02/2021 11:59

Thank you very much for that Squishy. He will be going from near the football ground out to Bucksburn so should be main road all the way once he gets out his street, which i remember being flat so no hills to worry about. I guess the main issue is that his street is one way so would mean a meander round other streets to get back into his own street and no-where to leave it on the main road.

When I was driving back from the hospital, that advert, work from home, protect the NHS came on. I felt quite pissed off as I need to go to work because I'm on the rota for the keyworker children. Just like shop staff need to go to work as well as care staff/NHS staff. And I have stayed away from people and cancelled all my plans for a holiday week to keep my husband safe. My Dd moved out so she could work in the care home and keep her dad safe too.

It's that little thing that has just riled me today.

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/02/2021 12:49

Agree Groovee. Hope Mr Groovee and his results go well.

TartanTed · 12/02/2021 12:56

I'm in Aberdeen city centre. Went to supermarket this morning- roads absolutely fine.

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/02/2021 13:13

Thanks @TartanTed. I know he is a big grown up 19 now but he's still my baby boy so I try to keep any interfering at a distance :o

I think it's to get a bit milder on Sunday so hopefully it clears up a bit.

SquishySquirmy · 12/02/2021 13:44

The snow has actually been quite a welcome distraction (although I feel a bit guilty to admit that, because I know it's a huge pita for some).

Dh has been leaping outside at regular intervals to help push cars stuck on our road. He and a few of the other men are now outside leaning on shovels and shaking their heads gravely, discussing The Snow. I think they're loving it really.

The kids get to see their friends when out sledging. So the snow has brought a bit of excitement, exercise and social interaction in the midst of lockdown.

WaxOnFeckOff · 12/02/2021 13:49

I used to dread the snow just because I needed to drive DC to school and it was at the top of a hill with traffic calming bits so no guarantee you'd be able to go up or down without having to stop.

I don't mind it now as stuck at home. No little DC and no diffing out needed though but at least a change of scenery out the window.

LetItGoGo · 12/02/2021 13:51

Yes squishy there has been much more neighbourly interaction this week!

frasersmummy · 12/02/2021 15:30

See these infernal adverts of people hooked up to ventilators.. Look them in the eye..

We lost my dh to a brain heammorage 3 years ago... He was on a ventilator

These adverts are driving my teen mental as they just take him right back to the day he lost his dad..

He is spending hours curdled up in bed engaging in nothing

It needs to stop!!

ProvisionallyAnxious · 12/02/2021 15:39

Oh @frasersmummy that's terrible. Poor lad. Flowers

I love this. I have a picture of the scene in my head 😃

frasersmummy Thanksawful - and I wonder how much people really respond to these shock ads, always affecting the wrong people.

Why the actual fuck are the Sun reporting that schools might not be reopening on the 22nd after all? www.thescottishsun.co.uk/news/6673509/coronavirus-scotland-school-return-doubt-february-22/

I hope this is just the Sun being dramatic and we’re not being prepped for yet another “just two weeks” Sad

WouldBeGood · 12/02/2021 17:43

I saw that @GoldenOmber

Jason Leitch has been wittering about that today.

I think they’re prepping us, helpfully just before the weekend again to ensure maximum worry

LetItGoGo · 12/02/2021 17:45

Cases not coming down as quickly as hoped.

shouldistop · 12/02/2021 17:50

I don't know how ds1 will cope if he doesn't get back to nursery soon. I'll be so angry.

GoldenOmber · 12/02/2021 17:50

Well ffs. Wasn’t the plan P1-3 and nurseries back on 22nd so long as we were making progress on suppressing the virus? And now: we are making progress but it isn’t as fast as we’d like? 🤷‍♀️

If they move the date again that would be, what, the third different date they’ve given us for school return and then said “oops sorry no”? WONDERFUL I can’t WAIT to do another however many weeks homeschooling angry sad children with a toddler at home and trying to work at the same time.

WouldBeGood · 12/02/2021 17:50

I’ve also seen today that the SG use a different method of counting positives than the WHO which means we will possibly be kept in lockdown longer than the WHO figures would mean.

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 12/02/2021 17:52

Yep, @GoldenOmber. It’s the shifting sands that really depress me.

If the measures aren’t working then surely we just need to get on with things at some point?

I hate the news drip feeds so that you spend the 3 days up to any announcement in suspense.
