Sorry. Lost track of what was proposed. Hope this will do.

Maybe I should be booking a South Queensferry bolt hole for summer. I thought we were being cautious enough with an Oban cottage in August.

anon444877 · 11/02/2021 17:46

And on the cladding rogue 100 percent agree, outrageous that a regulatory failure is being pushed onto individuals unlucky enough to have affected housing.

StarryEyeSurprise · 11/02/2021 17:47

Hmm, Johnson nearly always over promises and under delivers so the fact he's saying it too... I don't know if he'll put schools back on the 8th March, probably not but more kids back in school will increase cases ( onv in Scotland p1-3 are back on 22nd). I'll register for postal vote and nearly everyone I know is doing the same though I wouldn't mind going to vote in person.

kurtrussellsbeard · 11/02/2021 17:52

If there was any attempt to not allow the elections to go ahead the internet would combust with the sheer amount of people breaking their thumbs trying to create Nicola Sturgeon is a Nazi memes.

LetItGoGo · 11/02/2021 17:52

I wouldn't mind doing a lot of things indoors with half the neighbourhood but they've mostly been banned.

rookiemere · 11/02/2021 17:53

I've registered for postal voting but at this rate going to the polling station and getting the vaccine look like my only opportunity to see real live people this year.

StarryEyeSurprise · 11/02/2021 17:53

@fluffyugg

You just wonder how they will get numbers that low. I know things are really improving but actual case numbers still high, where are people getting it? Although I suppose vaccinations will hopefully have an impact on that fairly soon 🤞
I don't think vaccinations will have a meaningful impact until Autumn as it's two doses that matter.
rookiemere · 11/02/2021 17:56

Really @kurtrussellsbeard I don't sense much desire for these elections except among SNP supporters. I do feel there are other things we should be concentrating on right now.

🤣🤣🤣 Especially the Highland Tories Group!!
IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 11/02/2021 17:58

Not really Starry, one dose gives the majority of the protection, the second dose adds to it a bit, but also extends the lifetime of it.

I don't know how they'll get cases low enough with the new transmissible strain.

kurtrussellsbeard · 11/02/2021 18:00

You are joking @rookiemere surely! Could you imagine? There would be a total outcry!

Here's the chance to vote them out if you want to.

I think SNP are going to take a mighty hit because of the Salmond/ Sturgeon stuff and the gender / Joanna Cherry stuff.

StarryEyeSurprise · 11/02/2021 18:00

Ah, I was reading re Israel (I think they used the same vaccine).

anon444877 · 11/02/2021 18:03

rookie we'd better start looking at holidays in council catchment!

Boris isn't saying no holidays in England itself this summer is he? So it's not the same.

StarryEyeSurprise · 11/02/2021 18:08

I think it's crazy the opposition parties are so focused on the Salmond case. I mean they've been trying to get s*it on the FM for years but it really smacks of to me like Trump and Hilary Clinton's e-mails - is this REALLY the most important issue for people. 😐
I did manage to find out how to hide that thread on here, phew!
IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 11/02/2021 18:12

The SNP are banking on winning so they can try to force a referendum and they think they've got the momentum of they wouldn't be doing it. There's no way they'd delay an election, and I think they'd find themselves in breach of some law or other if they did.

But they should be creatively considering the running of it, which I've heard nothing about.

StatisticallyChallenged · 11/02/2021 18:13

The election is a mess - even from a premises perspective. Not actually sure where my new polling station is but where I used to live they were mostly:

  • in schools
  • In churches which are often used by childcare providers too

and similar shared use buildings - libraries, community centres etc. Are they going to throughly clean and decontaminate them overnight so the kids can be back in school/childcare the next day? Bet they bloody won't and it'll be left to the schools etc to make sure it's safe.

At the bare minimum there should be a massive postal voting drive, proxy voting and so on to massively reduce the number physically in attendance.

jabbathebutt · 11/02/2021 18:16

starting to wish I'd kept our hot tub now.....and the paddling pool even if DD is way too big

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 11/02/2021 18:16

Agree. I will look at sorting a postal vote actually, I hadn't given it much thought before.

It'll be all the oldies in person and the younger voters voting by post! Total turnaround.

kurtrussellsbeard · 11/02/2021 18:17

People can register for a postal vote. There's nothing safer than that. I expect there will be a drive on that.

If not, schools are full of people all day for childcare but not generally in the spaces usually used to vote. Schools are thoroughly cleaned every day no matter what anyway. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Cismyfatarse · 11/02/2021 18:17

There is no reason surely why we can't vote outside, in marquees, or in drive through polling stations.

Our place is in a church hall up narrow stairs and several corridors. There is a lift but only for one at a time.

anon444877 · 11/02/2021 18:18

We had a letter saying register for a postal vote by April 6 I believe. But if it all goes postal they'll have to change that.

StarryEyeSurprise · 11/02/2021 18:22

Boris isn't saying no holidays in England itself this summer is he? So it's not the same.

Yesterday there was confusion as Hancock said he'd booked his Summer holiday to Cornwall whilst almost simultaneously, Boris said not to book summer staycations.

There is a drive for postal votes- the adverts's on tv / radio.
StatisticallyChallenged · 11/02/2021 18:25

My old primary school used the main gym hall for voting, with everyone coming in through the main doors, along the main corridors...not sure how that's not going to be used the next day.

And of course schools are normally thoroughly cleaned but voting finishes at 10pm. In most that's long after the cleaners are gone. Yes, it's minor and solvable but given at one point some councils were claiming they needed a day to clean in between groups of pupils it's a tad hypocritical to then be saying "ah yes but thousands of randoms, come on in"

In a pandemic these issues are not the same challenge as they are normally.

anon444877 · 11/02/2021 18:29

Boris said it's too early to say, Nicola says she can't guarantee anything - wow, is this the first time they've been united in gloom?
