@Puddington the hotel quarantine thing doesn't kick in till Monday Feb 15
if you're arriving on the 13th you shouldn't have to do it

anon444877 · 09/02/2021 20:49

@Puddington glad to read your update, although sorry you've had such a crappy ordeal getting there. Going to be a good Valentine's Day I hope! Hope you don't have to do that hotel quarantine.

I know, pinning all my hopes on that but there has been a lot of snow recently and I'm worried that if the flight gets cancelled/rescheduled or something I'll be screwed.

Coquohvan · 09/02/2021 20:50

Ah @Puddington a love story, good to hear good news.

LetItGoGo · 09/02/2021 20:52

My fear is the banning of any cross Scottish border travel this year. I no longer think this is catastrophizing.

titsbumfannythelot · 09/02/2021 20:54

I don't either @LetItGoGo

Puddington · 09/02/2021 20:54

Thanks so much @anon444877 and @Coquohvan! Flowers Going to be the valentine's day to end all valentine's days if I actually get there in one piece lol! My brain is just totally on the fritz with all the worrying.

anon444877 · 09/02/2021 20:59

You're so close @Puddington try and distract yourself - whatever goes wrong now is fixable, you're so close. The house purchase was the hardest bit.

@LetItGoGo I don't think that's catastrophising either - my DM was saying she'd be up to Scotland to see the GC when she's had the second dose and i wonder whether they'll make any exceptions for people with family around the UK, they haven't so far so seems unlikely.

That whole narrative about England not being tough enough on quarantine etc etc and English visitors reseeding Scotland...

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 09/02/2021 21:07

I thought we could have Christmas at Easter! Who knows...

Sootess · 09/02/2021 21:13

@Puddington I think the quarantine is only for international arrivals, out-with uk and Ireland.
Good luck with the move❤️

rookiemere · 09/02/2021 21:14

Well for some good news, the vaccination numbers today on Travelling Tabby are very encouraging. 11k+ for Scotland- top of the league.
Realistically they can't keep the borders closed once numbers are low on either side, or if they do the police won't enforce it .

Puddington · 09/02/2021 21:16

Thank you @Sootess! Smile That's what I'm hoping too, tbf I know that is actually what has been reported (and I read someone who works at Aberdeen airport saying that anyhow there aren't any international flights because the industry has been decimated...) but things just change so quickly and it would be my luck for it to go tits-up at the last minute lol. Thanks everyone for being so kind and reassuring!

LetItGoGo · 09/02/2021 21:16

And it IS a chosen narrative.

I have been following it quite carefully.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 09/02/2021 21:17

I watched a news report on New Zealand and their tourist industry is fecked. All the wee backpacking towns and resorts are really struggling. Nowhere is coming out of this well.

jabbathebutt · 09/02/2021 21:26

I wonder if after the 50+, they will continue down the age groups or change the priority groups again so that its teachers or police officers or maybe students rather than by age?

littlbrowndog · 09/02/2021 21:58

Agree with wouldbegood

It’s really shite if you are poor.

Staring at the same 4 walls day after day

So what today was sledging that’s great

No nursery no meeting friends with babies no meeting supportive family

Day after day after day

The last time we were allowed people in our houses was September

Then you could meet a friend in a cafe. Costs a fortune to buy drinks for a family of 4.

And sitting on a park bench with a flask day after day soon loses it appeal in winter

It’s grim for some of us

LetItGoGo · 09/02/2021 22:01

I've used my flask once.
I'm hoping to get more use as the weather warms

LetItGoGo · 09/02/2021 22:01

But yes it feels grim mostly.

Sootess · 09/02/2021 22:04

@jabbathebutt I think they'll change the priorities. Once everyone over 50 plus clinically vulnerable groups are vaccinated then everyone else is considered low risk. But some "low risk" people will be more at risk of catching Covid because of other factors eg their job role, so I think they will be prioritised. That will be a lot less straightforward to decide and manage though!

Bytheloch · 09/02/2021 22:06

Yep, me too.
littlbrowndog · 09/02/2021 22:09

But when will change. ?

I don’t give any fucks what New Zealand did. I live in Scotland

My live and my children’s lives are grim at the moment

We just exist day after day

Watch baby club on telly then watch toddler club on telly.

Then do some painting stuff or games and then it’s still only lunchtime

Repeat repeat

Bytheloch · 09/02/2021 22:12
No, not worrying. Not here. We need to concentrate on what’s happening here, not elsewhere. Mental health matters right now.
WouldBeGood · 09/02/2021 22:25

So now we need to stay home in case children test positive for Covid?

🤷🏻‍♀️

StarryEyeSurprise · 09/02/2021 22:27

No one's saying mental health doesn't matter. Of course it does. I've actually just spent the evening creating mental health related activities for my kids for next week. It's not a binary choice.
