DH has just had a rant at the Radio news reader - apparently 2 MSPs have requested Scottish Parliament does more to support members with young families.

It’s great to see the vaccine rate rising!

I agree @frasersmummy

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/02/2021 20:53

Definitely getting better but still a fair bit to catch up.

It is. I still have my fears re the long time between doses in the UK (was reading about it earlier - other countries still advise against it) but I'm trying not to think about it and focus on the positive!

titsbumfannythelot · 07/02/2021 21:02

Other countries will have a lot to say about 'how well' we're doing compared to them and comments like that will invariably be aimed at stocks, program etc.

It'll all come out in the wash in a few years time undoubtedly.

StarryEyeSurprise · 07/02/2021 21:17

It's regarding the 12 weeks in between doses we're doing here. Other countries are saying that shouldn't be done unless there's no other choice e.g supply issues. Even Anerica's not going against the manufacturer's guidelines. Eek.

Groovee · 07/02/2021 21:18

My mum got her vaccine appointment for ingliston at 8.30 in the morning on the day nursery is due back. She phoned to change it and there's no appointments. The only way round it is if dh is off he could drop me at work at 7.45 and pick my mum up and take her out.

kurtrussellsbeard · 07/02/2021 21:19

Vaccine looking good. I'm graph illiterate. Why does one graph suggest we've caught up but another suggests we haven't?

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/02/2021 21:28

The first graph is showing the 7 day average per 100k of the population which reflects the recent days progress. I thought it was a little misleading in terms of the overall picture so posted the 2nd one for balance as it shows progress as a %age overall.

So essentially, using both graphs, we can see that over the last 7 days we've performed better than England as far as first doses are concerned but we still have a bit of catching up to do.

So good news and if the pace is kept up then hopefully we will get closer to how other countries are doing. We were last behind Wales but they've been doing an even better job and using per 100k for 1st doses, they are now at the top. If you add in 2nd doses then England still in front.

Hello, just feeling gloomy tonight. So much worry for so long...and now still so much uncertainty. Really pleased that all my favourite auld yins have got their first jag, but have this overwhelming feeling of “well what happens now”? Having a wee snivel after looking at photies of this time last year - al that seems unreachable and impossible. It’s nice having this thread to read - so reassuring to hear constructive thoughts. Thanks guys ;-)

Lockdownbear · 08/02/2021 02:08

Super Lemon - what happens now ?

Auld yins are done, whit a relief - nexts it's the middle age folks turn in the queue - nae body likes being called middle aged yi kno...when the'r al done al the folk 'ill stop filling up the Royal
And once al' the sick yins are feeling better n hame fae the Royal, in the nurses can huv a wee breck.
An aw yon weans can git back tae the school.
An soon we'll all go tae the pub and celebrate wae a wee dram!

Hope that makes you feel better Lemon Sleep well

runningpink · 08/02/2021 05:09

I didn’t realise you were provided with an appointment place and time. Is this the same everywhere?

I assumed the letter/phone call was to inform it was your time to make that appointment.
Not that il actually get mine till end of year so it doesn’t really matter at the moment but chances of me being able to go by set appointment are pretty slim once back at work. I would need to book something that fits in. I spend half my week working an hour from home and can be away 7-7 including the commute for example. Sure there will be many others in similar position.

Maybe they need a different appointment system once we hit the working population?

That made me laugh @Lockdownbear!

Lockdownbear · 08/02/2021 06:50

Yes older people are given an appointment. I suspect it might change as they go down the age groups.

SuperLemonCrush · 08/02/2021 08:03

Thank you Lockdown Bear! I shouldn’t stay up late listening to the news...

I shouldn't stay awake mumsnet either. But I should have put some effort in to make it rhyme like a poem rather than just a daft tale.

But the vaccine is our only exit plan. We can't and won't live like this forever.

WouldBeGood · 08/02/2021 08:55

Round these parts I’ve seen ads saying that over 70s have been given appointments but they can ring up and cancel and attend local vaccination centres instead.

Disappointingly, though, we drove past a local one on Saturday and it was shut 🤷🏻‍♀️

jabbathebutt · 08/02/2021 09:03

If younger age groups can make their own appointment thats good and bad, good for those who might be working / home schooling etc but bad as in people might not bother.

I've said it before, I think the uptake as we move down the age groups will start to fall off.

rookiemere · 08/02/2021 09:11

@jabbathebutt depends what age group it tails off at though. If it's under 50s - so under the higher risk threshold- then technically it shouldn't stop lockdown from being lifted as chances of that age group requiring hospitalisation is very small.

I'm 50 and I'll certainly make sure that I can get mine as soon as I am allowed, but then I'm in the lucky position where I'm able to do that.

Not really wanting it because I'm worried about catching coronavirus- pretty sure both DH and I had it last March, and even if I catch it again well so be it - if I end up on a ventilator I may eat my words if able but there we go. No I'm having it because I need my DS 14 to receive a face to face education and some semblance of normal life to return.

dancemom · 08/02/2021 09:13

@rookiemere I'm 40 but exactly the same. Pretty sure I had it last March and I'd like to think I'm low risk although nobody knows for sure but I'll be first in the queue to take it if just to get education back for dd.

rookiemere · 08/02/2021 09:16

I'm not entirely selfless though. Also bemoaning the irony of the best Scottish snow EVER at half term, and can't bloody go skiing.

jabbathebutt · 08/02/2021 09:18

Oh I'll definitely be getting the jag and I want DD back at school too. I don't think it will be a normal education until August though, most likely still with their masks.

Lockdownbear · 08/02/2021 09:24

I've said it before, I think the uptake as we move down the age groups will start to fall off.

It's just my guess that they'll allow younger people to make their own appointments when it's their age group.

Purely because if they don't loads of people will either be phoning to change them or miss them because of work. But there again a high proportion of people will want first / last thing so its maybe not that feasible.
You also have the issue of childcare in younger age groups particularly the 30s and 40s.

jabbathebutt · 08/02/2021 09:34

Yep these are all reasons why I think uptake will stall as we go down the age groups. Maybe we will all get the jag but because of other facts that we need to consider like work and childcare, it might slow the jag chart right down and that, in turn, can lead to restrictions for longer. I'm just someone who tries not to get my hopes up too much in case they are disappointed.

Lockdownbear · 08/02/2021 09:44

But one other thing is it's in employers interests for people to get the vaccine so they should encourage their employees to go and get it. Not be putting obstacles in the way.

Big workplaces like factories, it might be worth it for the vaccinators to go to them. Apparently back in the day when I think it might have been small pox vaccine became available my Granny worked in a factory and had it done there.
