Sorry. Lost track of what was proposed. Hope this will do.

I think the Oxford vaccine actually got slightly better results with a longer delay - might be misremembering

kurtrussellsbeard · 06/02/2021 16:31

@Dinnafashyersel thanks for that. It seems a fairly compelling case to not delay the opening of schools to all too much then.

TheMShip · 06/02/2021 16:32

You're correct @StatisticallyChallenged. From BMJ

'The study found vaccine efficacy reached 82.4% after a second dose in those with a dosing interval of 12 weeks or more (95% confidence interval 62.7% to 91.7%). If the two doses were given less than six weeks apart the efficacy was only 54.9% (CI 32.7% to 69.7%).'

Thanks @theMShip - I knew I'd seen it but on phone and couldn't be arsed searching! Mumsnetting and sewing simultaneously

Wbeezer · 06/02/2021 16:42

My Mum in NHS Forth Valley and my early 70s in laws in Tayside all got jags today, so that's the full set of family oldies done rather neat and tidily. Phew!

StarryEyeSurprise · 06/02/2021 16:43

Thanks, it was all sounding great until this last paragraph

"Azra Ghani, chair in infectious disease epidemiology at Imperial College London, urged caution over the results, however, pointing out that the study was not designed to look at different dosing gaps or at one versus two doses. "

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/02/2021 16:45

Yes, it's the best info they have but not perfect

anon444877 · 06/02/2021 17:07

My dad (who has no degree) has been joking that he's enjoying being an Oxford man.

I'm so glad I ordered waterproof suits this am, back from freezing park where dd covered herself in rain water and mud.

jabbathebutt · 06/02/2021 18:49

lecturer unions are saying there's no point getting students back before the end of term (May I think). Schools close a bit later right enough. Seems Gavin Wiliamson (in England) is talking about schools, FE and HE all going back on the 8th March.

WouldBeGood · 06/02/2021 19:00

I’d take 8th March now. I think DS would be more able to cope if there’s an end date too.

Coquohvan · 06/02/2021 19:06

I couldn’t care about holidays. I just want to hug and see my children and DGC. Thankfully we have FaceTime etc nowadays not the same at all.
We always book holidays around Dec/Jan time so all last years have been moved and have rolled around again and will be moved till next year those we miss this. Both me and DH just sneaked into the 65 group and will get our jags next week.

On happy news Scotland won the Calcutta Cup 🏉

titsbumfannythelot · 06/02/2021 19:12

I'd sacrifice a holiday for a cuddle with some of my faves too @Coquohvan.

BBCONEANDTWO · 06/02/2021 19:13

I'm really hoping that we might go into Tiers at the end of February - anyone else feeling it might happen. I know someone had mentioned pubs opening but serving no alcohol - I don't expect they'll do that in England when they open up only in Scotland - is Nicola Sturgeon tee total she seems to hate alcohol.

rookiemere · 06/02/2021 19:17

Just cooked course five of my Six by nico box - another blinking hour even though I did most of the prep last night. Leaving the deep fried mars bar for a bit.
Can't wait until restaurants open again Grin!

I look back fondly to Tier 3 when I was able to use the outdoor heated pool.

WouldBeGood · 06/02/2021 19:20

I care about holidays!

No tiers needed after this. Back to normal

Coquohvan · 06/02/2021 19:42

Hopefully no Tiers though I have every faith in SG bringing them back.
I care about holidays as well and appreciate we all miss them, missing DC CG is so sore. We have a place in France not been to since all this erupted. Hopefully with our health intact we will get back with the family at some point.
Didn’t know NS is TT bang goes pubs opening.

I don't know she's TT - but think she must be - remember she stopped us drinking in pubs and also in Scotland we have the minimum price for alcohol that England don't have.

Just a few people have said how anti-drinking she seems to be.

jabbathebutt · 06/02/2021 19:53

they won't ditch tiers at all this year.

They might work their way down.

But there was a picture thingie on the BBC website (I'll try to add it) that said all vacs will be done by autumn.

However, that's only the first doses done by autumn.

I think we might see tiers 3/4 from February, then by summer it could be tiers 2/3. Or maybe by May (just in time for the election of course)

Gawd this is so depressing isn't it. I've got to the stage where I don't even know if I can be bothered going to a cafe when they open up now!
Coquohvan · 06/02/2021 20:03

Interesting @jabbathebutt can hope they pick up the pace. Yes @BBC I’d read she was alcohol allergic, perhaps not totally TT. 😀 May elections will be high on her agenda with super dooper vaccine stats.

Yes for sure and of course - her independence plans - although there is an online petition asking for it not to go ahead:

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/570779

It's up to 85K signatures - if it gets to 100K it will have to go to Parliament!

Dinnafashyersel · 06/02/2021 20:31

English DH is SO out of sorts about the rugby - I may be enjoying it too much Grin. He blames Nicola for keeping us on the straight and narrow and out the pub for the best part of a year.

Fantastic match and even better that I was on leftover leg of lamb and veg mash from last night which took all of 5 minutes to bung in the oven. You're not really selling make your own faffy restaurant nonsense rookie.

rookiemere · 06/02/2021 20:40

@Dinnafashyersel never again I tell you ! Just done the deep fried mars bar, and next weekend it's Indian takeaway all the way.

Good conversation with DM earlier- we were going to wait to visit them until 3 weeks after their second vaccine which they're getting end of March, but as the numbers are so low in Edinburgh and Perth and as DS is off school and we've not been near anyone indoors for ages apart from shopping, I suggested we visit earlier. She seemed happy about that so we'll keep an eye on the numbers.

Love love love six by nico. Cannot wait to go back. I really feel for businesses like this.
rookiemere · 06/02/2021 21:11

@titsbumfannythelot after having prepped and washed up after the 6 courses, I can definitively say that £29 per person is a bloody bargain at the restaurant. Now if they could reopen with alcohol, but that feels like the realms of fantasy just now.
