Does it matter if Sturgeon is guilty - do you know or care?

Evidence of a conspiracy to frame Alex Salmond has been building. There are compelling reports in the Times, Herald , Sky News and across the internet. But there is less reporting in Scotland and a lot of people seem to not know or care. I'm Scottish but I don't live there. I've been hooked by this as a story of power and corruption. I'm on the fence re independence, just don't know enough so don't have an axe in that debate. I've never been an SNP member. But I do care about justice and that no-one should be above the law, especially politicians when they are seeking to imprison their potential rivals.

After reading this affadavit from Craig Murray which brings it all together and is incendiary I'm pretty convinced there has been a conspiracy and that Sturgeon and her collaborators should face justice. Although the justice department (Crown office) also seem to be mired in this. Here is the affadavit www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/2021/01/my-sworn-evidence-on-the-sturgeon-affair/

I've shown this to a few people and have been shocked that a couple have said, yes it stinks but I like Sturgeon. I'd be interested in the views of Scotsnet. How much do you know about this? Do you care? Is it OK for our politicians to imprison their rivals, like Putin and co do, if you like their other objectives. Has Scotland become a corrupt nation? Is that OK?

I’ve just heard from a SNP supporter that this is just being spun by the MSM now to discredit the SG before the election.

There’s no hope

littlbrowndog · 25/02/2021 20:11

I rember that one. The Edinburgh statutory notice

Millions of pounds and the whole council department were in cahoots

Selkiesarereal · 25/02/2021 20:17

I actually think that the level of seriousness and at the level of those involved makes it too big to blow over.

When this thread started my position was that democracy needs to be protected and to be honest as this has gone on and this week in particular has demonstrated how important this is.

I still think that irrespective of your politics, you should care about democracy as without that we don’t stand a chance.

WouldBeGood · 25/02/2021 20:19

I agree @Selkiesarereal

It really frustrates me though, as the person who told me the above would have been raging if it was the Tories involved in this.

Selkiesarereal · 25/02/2021 20:24

I actually recall saying something along those lines either on this thread or another and I was annihilated as Ruth had done far worse. I may have posted under my old name on that, but it wasn’t pretty.

littlbrowndog · 25/02/2021 20:26

Yes selkie

It’s about the people who receive wages to govern us without prejudice and being transparent and who have been voted in to do this

I feel there is dishonesty going on at the heart of government

When I saw sturgeon using her covid briefing to talk about salmond I was dismayed.

Why would our first minister do this

She has lost my trust that’s for sure

Sadsiblingatsea · 25/02/2021 20:28

Sturgeon is a tinpot dictator.

HirplesWithHaggis · 25/02/2021 20:33

Alex will be answering questions from the inquiry 12.30pm - 4.30pm tomorrow. (Supposedly... Grin )

WouldBeGood · 25/02/2021 20:33

Will it happen......??? 😃

Tomorrowisanewday · 25/02/2021 20:33

Littlebrowndog - yes, and I think it annoyed me more because she has censored journalists in the past for asking questions that weren't related to Covid

boobashka · 25/02/2021 20:38

Sturgeon is a tinpot dictator.

Not only that @Sadsiblingatsea but she has stolen Scottishness away from the Scottish people and taken it for the SNP. I bitterly resent the fact that the SNP purports to speak for everyone who lives in Scotland. NO they do not.

Interesting @Blurberoo how many of the women signatories were "Anonymous' at the end of that letter from SNP women about trans rights - obviously frightened to be identified. Why should anyone feel frightened like that in a democracy? Shameful situation.

boobashka · 25/02/2021 20:39

Bring it on

CayrolBaaaskin · 25/02/2021 20:40

@daisyfraser - the executive branch of the government always appoints the judiciary and the law officers. Unless you have an elected system like in some states of the USA (and tbh that has its own issues).

There really isn’t any serious issue here, certainly nothing that would prevent us joining the EU as some pp claims (in any event on independence, you would have to suppose the constitution would change).

Scotland’s lawyers are generally not as a whole concerned about this in the slightest. This is just more politically motivated conspiracy theories. There’s been plenty of those in the past.

The evidence is poor that there was any serious issue here at all. It’s doesn’t seem to me that there was any good reason not to prosecute Alex salmond, if they hadn’t people would be screaming corruption just the same. I don’t disbelieve the women involved but recognize that he was found not guilty.

Unfortunately some people do wish to seize on anything and will accuse the SNP of all manner of things regardless of fact. But I don’t see any evidence this has significantly affected their popularity.

CayrolBaaaskin · 25/02/2021 20:43

And lol at the “tinpot dictator” and “stealing Scottishness away@ She’s democratically elected. By the Scottish people. And hugely popular in Scotland.

If you don’t like her, fine. But say, “I don’t like her” not “she’s a dictator who stole my Scottishness” because she’s obviously not.

Singlenotsingle · 25/02/2021 20:44

I think maybe NS has finally overplayed her hand, and hopefully she'll be gone very soon. I'm particularly suspicious about the passages of AS's evidence which have been redacted, which apparently contain explosive information. If she's got nothing to hide, why shouldn't it all be available? Hmm

littlbrowndog · 25/02/2021 20:46

The redacted was all over the internet. But forget what you saw or read 😂😂

HirplesWithHaggis · 25/02/2021 20:46

It is still available, on the Spectator website.

Viviennemary · 25/02/2021 20:48

The information is not available so that means Sturgeon cannot be questioned on it. How very convenient.

CayrolBaaaskin · 25/02/2021 20:49

@Singlenotsingle - why has it been redacted then? You think just because it’s “explosive”? Or do you think it’s possible that there’s maybe a good legal reason it’s been redacted?

littlbrowndog · 25/02/2021 20:50

What we really need is effective opposition

It’s become like Scotland is about the SNP

It’s bad for our country and bad for government

littlbrowndog · 25/02/2021 20:51

It’s only the daily mail as well

dementedma · 25/02/2021 20:53

Alex Salmond is a slime ball. It’s a sad day when I will be cheering him on tomorrow in his attempt to make Sturgeon tell the truth. She simply cannot get away with this level of obfuscation, deceit and downright lying.

boobashka · 25/02/2021 20:58

^ This. Well said @littlbrowndog

LexMitior · 25/02/2021 21:07

@GreenlandTheMovie

I predict that it will all blow over, as things usually do in Scotland, with an emotional, televised apology on prime time tv by Sturgeon, just before the elections in May.

Does anyone remember the Edinburgh statutory notice scandal? That would have been a huge scandal anywhere else. Here, it didn't even warrant a parliamentary enquiry.

Really? Do people actually fall for that?
