DH has been offered a job helping with vaccinations. All paperwork completed and sent off 2 weeks ago and nothing. This is in spite of a promised "immediate start."

WouldBeGood · 01/02/2021 21:45

I am surprised. I’d have had money on England to fuck it up, but would have thought we’d do better

Bytheloch · 01/02/2021 21:47

So many of us are hoping for a school’s announcement tomorrow, but looking around SM tonight it’s potentially going to focus on the ‘tougher in Scotland’ quarantine rules? Part of the better than Boris campaign.

Quarantine rules (tougher, because we can’t possibly have UK rules...) are pretty low down on my worries- vaccines, schools returning, opening up from full lockdown in some way, are surely more of a priority- or am I missing something?

fluffyugg · 01/02/2021 21:50

@Bytheloch I didn't hear all of the briefing at lunchtime today but I also got the feeling that there wasn't much of a schools focus for tomorrow...bloody well hope I'm wrong!

She said she would tell us tomorrow what is to happen to schools

Peppafrig · 01/02/2021 21:58

“Now in addition to that, and most importantly, tomorrow’s review will also consider schools and early years provision - and will set out our most up to date thinking on how and when we might be able to start to resume in-person learning and childcare. Obviously all of us want to do that just as soon as possible.

I will also provide information on some expanded arrangements for testing in those settings“

Hasn't he even got his hi-viz jacket and clipboard yet?! Though joking aside, that, and tomorrows friend' s experience are pretty poor. There doesn't seem to be any urgency at all. I agree, I'd have thought rUK would muck this up, but they seem to be doing pretty well, at least in terms of volume. Nearly 600,000 in a day (yes, including Scotland numbers) and we are only approaching that in 8 weeks.

Oh, I so hope schools and definitely nurseries are given a date tomorrow, even for some years. I just feel like we're in permanent limbo at the moment. I don't care if they make us stay in a hotel for a fortnight beforehand.

Bytheloch · 01/02/2021 22:01

Thanks Peppa
Expanded arrangements for testing in those settings?

What is this ‘tease’ referring to? Hmm

fluffyugg · 01/02/2021 22:03

Yes she did say there'd be an update on schools, I just didn't get the feeling it was the main issue though, lots of talk about different measures and 'other steps'.

fluffyugg · 01/02/2021 22:04

@Peppafrig I take it back...didn't hear that bit, was making lunches etc etc

Peppafrig · 01/02/2021 22:07

Maybe weekly testing for teachers in schools like they do in care homes ?
Cismyfatarse · 01/02/2021 22:14

@NotAnActualSheep Not a sniff of high viz, or even a clipboard.

I feel so hopeless. A whole month and there's not been a hint of how we'll open back up. I feel like there's no impetus at all and they're happy to just leave us like this indefinitely. It's a horrible feeling. So even though my youngest is p5 I'd be so happy to even hear nursery has a date to go back, just so I feel we've not been forgotten about and there is half a plan in place.
The politicians are playing at politics and we're all just left shut up in our houses. I'm sad. I have no faith in anyone any more.

littlbrowndog · 01/02/2021 22:22

I know Rae. I feel despair that I will be stuck in with 3 under 6 for ever

Trailing round the park in the mud. Looking at other parents feeling the same.

I agree even if the plan was no one back to after Easter at the earliest I could live with it . It’s the not knowing even what the plan they have could look like. Blended learning, only certain year groups , summer catch up schools like England have been promised . I just need to be a little in control .
blowinahoolie · 01/02/2021 22:25

"I just need to be a little in control ."

Same.

Peppafrig · 01/02/2021 22:27

No doubt the media will have some of the details in the morning before the announcement like they normally do .

blowinahoolie · 01/02/2021 22:32

It's incredibly sad knowing my 5yo will have hardly any time in his delayed start to P1 year at nursery. The whole point of it has been lost. It will be a rush to sort out the transition to P1 if they go back in a few weeks.

We need nurseries to open soon. This is no life for them. They need mixing with their peers. That way I can focus my time and attention to help my older DC at home if youngest ones are in nursery. Got a lot riding on this announcement tomorrow.

PufferFishGoneWrong · 01/02/2021 22:37

I am praying into the void that at least nurseries open mid Feb, it will at least be a start.

NS could have really handled it all so much better. She has fucked up majorly by not locking Glasgow down months ago after she locked down Aberdeen, to now fucking up vaccines and keeping us under lock and key. She is like a pig in shit with all her power.

I am really hoping she gets put back down to earth in May.

So fed up with everything.

Lockdownbear · 01/02/2021 22:39

I'm desperate for nursery to get back. Both for my sanity and for LO.

Blowin schools are going to have to go easy on the new P1s. I keep comforting myself that ALL the new P1s will be in the same boat.

WouldBeGood · 01/02/2021 22:45

If it helps, I was really worried about ds starting high school in August and he was fine, and flourished.

They all need their peers, not just little ones. It’s maybe not so bad if they have siblings but DS needs school now. The costs of keeping them off are too great.

Lockdownbear · 01/02/2021 23:48

Older kids at least have the ability to meet their pals, locally wandering round corner chapping the door. Parents can make contact via school mums FB page.

LOs need someone to facilitate meetings for them, theres been no toddler groups for the last year, parents aren't likely to have contact details for other nursery kids.

Just my own observations from my own pair. Both missing friends but the 9yo has contact but LO doesn't. 9yo doesn't really want to hang out with LO.

True. But slightly worryingly my kids haven't seen anyone from school outside of school during either lockdown. There is no incentive I think nor no appetite to walk the streets.
anon444877 · 02/02/2021 07:34

hell I need my peers too! My DD has already shouted on waking up that the work is boring and she doesn't want to do it. We have the same daily fight about not wanting to go out. So today looking like a re-run of yesterday's dismal home school efforts.

My kids haven't been in someone's house since Christmas last year, we can't be the only ones, playdates only started up again for a few weeks before it was all shut down again. Their socialisation across the board is going to be shocking, you wouldn't do this to a set of puppies or kittens.

titsbumfannythelot · 02/02/2021 07:53

A friend told me she heard nursery/ early years back 3rd week in February. Rest back after Easter.

We'll find out in a few hours I suppose.
