I need my peers to @anon444877, missing having a catch up with various friends groups.

rookiemere · 02/02/2021 07:55

At least DS 14 is of an age where he can simply break the rules. Last year I had no guilt about more or less pushing him out the door to play football with his mates in June. As long as he isn't the slowest in the group he can outrun a police person, who I imagine aren't that keen to give a teen a criminal record for playing football outside.

Once the weather gets better I'll be shoving him out again.

I don't know if I'm just being ludicrously cynical now, but it strikes me that she'll need rates as low as possible to go ahead with this ill timed election. If that means throwing non exam year DCs under a bus - she'll happily do it. Then schools will close again after the inevitable spike caused by people voting, and we'll be harangued for something out of our control - again.

The one thing that would give us a legitimate route out of this is vaccinations. Heck if Scotland was demonstrably ahead of England in the roll out even I would think of voting SNP. But on that there is too much red tape, bureaucracy and slavish following of the order to jab. It makes little sense to me.

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 02/02/2021 07:55

Wow, that’s a long time away if it’s true. We have lower numbers than the rest of UK and at least Wales are trying to get some back after Feb break.

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 02/02/2021 07:59

I will also be raging if we are getting tougher restrictions, not excited about the extra measures thing, feels like more threats!

blowinahoolie · 02/02/2021 07:59

"They all need their peers, not just little ones. "

I get that WouldBeGood, but the youngest need to get the basics right in nursery so that they can do well throughout the rest of their education. Basic building blocks of communication. My 5yo needs help still with this, a lot nursery do with him that I can't. I don't have lots of other 3/4/5yos for him to interact with at home. Older children who are well established in school system are more or less doing okay, just missing friends (10yo said that to me the other day). I will be applying for my 3yo to have a delayed start to P1 nearer the time as he has delayed speech and really needs time in a nursery setting to improve. He was really doing great until to this latest lockdown.

Lockdownbear · 02/02/2021 08:00

Not had any kids in the house either. But the older one goes out to play. LO is just too young, and I don't trust big brother to look after him.

Made it to the park yesterday to meet one of big brothers friends, LO just sort of tagged along. But hes not seen any kids his own age since nursery.

Aurea · 02/02/2021 08:03

Does any one know the time of the announcement on schools?thanks.

AgentCooper · 02/02/2021 08:04

Checking in Brew my mum and dad, both mid-60s and not vulnerable (both already had and recovered from Covid) got a letter to say they’re getting their jags on Saturday at the SECC. Which I’m obviously very happy about, but MIL who is mid-70s and vulnerable hasn’t heard yet. Different LA but still infuriating that this is so badly organised.

anon444877 · 02/02/2021 08:06

blowin if I had an under 5, and I saw English nurseries open I'd have been bombarding my local politicians. Big fan of delayed starts for some kids, if they're not ready school can be so stressful.

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 02/02/2021 08:06

@Aurea

Does any one know the time of the announcement on schools?thanks.

Lockdownbear · 02/02/2021 08:06

Agent cooper are they Glasgow? my aunt in her 70s in Glasgow hasn't hasn't had word yet.

blowinahoolie · 02/02/2021 08:07

"But the older one goes out to play. "

Same here Lockdownbear. 10yo goes out to play with his friend in a nearby street. 13yo meets his one friend at the local park once or twice a week. Not the same just communicating on Discord!😂

titsbumfannythelot · 02/02/2021 08:09

What do we think of tiers? Will we just got back to Tier 4?

shouldistop · 02/02/2021 08:09

They all need their peers, not just little ones. It’s maybe not so bad if they have siblings but DS needs school now. The costs of keeping them off are too great.

I agree with this. Ok, a 12 year old might be able to learn at home more easily than a very little one but in terms of mental health it's vital that that age group can mix with peers too. If they don't live near a friend then that's very hard.

I think someone else said on another thread. 'We're all in the same storm, just different boats'

I know if this had happened when I was 12/13 and I couldn't hang about with friends I'd have been so upset.

blowinahoolie · 02/02/2021 08:12

anon my two older DC were both ready for P1 no problem by age 5, but my younger two need to be delayed for speech related reasons. The LA I am was the first in Scotland to grant delayed start to P1 without any supporting evidence required. Think this will be the default from 2023 in Scotland right across all LAs.

Definitely have no qualms about this for my youngest as he will benefit from 9 til 3 nursery setting for as long as possible really. I don't want him start P1 early and struggling, being under pressure etc.

shouldistop · 02/02/2021 08:12

Made it to the park yesterday to meet one of big brothers friends, LO just sort of tagged along. But hes not seen any kids his own age since nursery.

That's really hard Sad we're very lucky that if we go to the park in the afternoon we will meet at least 1 3-5yo that ds knows. It's a small community though.

AgentCooper · 02/02/2021 08:13

@Lockdownbear

Agent cooper are they Glasgow? my aunt in her 70s in Glasgow hasn't hasn't had word yet.
@Lockdownbear yes, they are. Southside. It’s just bizarre.
rookiemere · 02/02/2021 08:26

You'd think there would be a huge focus on the Glasgow vaccinations.
I wouldn't even mind so much if it was at the expense of some of the lower rated areas. After all if Glasgow and East Kilbride get the vaccine rolled out quickly then that will have the biggest impact on hospitalisations and deaths.

anon444877 · 02/02/2021 08:36

Yes you'd have thought a big push in high density areas with high cases was a must do.

Same here blowin, two completely different kids wrt school start requirements. We were advised to start her by nursery against our instincts and it was a nightmare we couldn't wake from as she got more and more distressed until we pulled her out. There still isn't enough listening to parents or parental choice in education but it's better than it was.

Lockdownbear · 02/02/2021 08:40

AgentCooper my Auntie is outside too she was told she'd get word from GP. DH Auntie in the same area has got a date.

I can't for the life of me work it out. I did consider they were trying to do densely populated areas first which would explain my ILs in a Lanarkshire village not having a date but it certainly doesn't explain Auntie in Glasgow.

readsalotgirl63 · 02/02/2021 08:41

My elderly relatives (in their early 80s) are being vaccinated on Friday - they are South side Glasgow

readsalotgirl63 · 02/02/2021 08:43

Sorry that was for@agentcooper and. @Lockdownbear

Lockdownbear · 02/02/2021 08:46

Re school start, the rules have been for a while Sept - Dec babies can defer but need reason for nursery funding. Jan - Feb don't need a reason.

We deferred oldest I'm not convinced we did the right thing. Sometimes I think he'd have done better with kids slightly more mature than him.
School did phone and ask are we sure about LO just turned 4 going into school.

Lockdownbear · 02/02/2021 08:48

Readalot the Southsiders I know are 70s. 2 have dates, 1 doesn't.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 02/02/2021 08:54

My parents are in EK, so populated area with high infection rates. Neither have even had a letter yet let alone the jag, and both are getting a bit anxious about it. Meanwhile FiL in England got his last week.
