A few of dm's friends refused the vaccine (Fife). I was surprised at dm as she's mostly an anti vaccer herself but she had hers on Tuesday.

jabbathebutt · 04/02/2021 18:44

Fred title ideas

Vac this way
Vac for good
Tiers can only get better

shouldistop · 04/02/2021 18:47

@anon444877 I can't really think of anyone. Most of ds friends mums I only know through nursery and my friends with kids are all either key workers, furloughed or on mat leave etc.
I'll try to have a think though as that could be a good way of helping someone out while I'm on mat leave and ds getting a friend to play with even just once a week. Another 4 or 5yo shouldn't be too much hassle and might free me up for the baby as I won't have to crawl around the floor playing that day.

anon444877 · 04/02/2021 18:56

And then perhaps they can return the favour down the line - I've done this as my kids otherwise rarely bump into people.

jabbathebutt · 04/02/2021 19:10

oh DMs BF has had hers but not her DH (he's bed bound, not got long left to live. maybe that's why?)

jabbathebutt · 04/02/2021 19:19

I'm also alarmed that so many social care workers are refusing the vaccine. I wonder if that's because they may have already had it (and think they are safe)? can anything be done about this? can they lose their right to work in social care or something?

Obviously I know some might have a health reason for not being able to be vaccinated, but not all of them will have that excuse.

Cismyfatarse · 04/02/2021 19:32

Vaccinations. And celebrations. No tiers.

Any more Freds?

titsbumfannythelot · 04/02/2021 19:41

Being a bit of a tt fan I like vac for good!

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 04/02/2021 19:42

How about "Syringe can only get better"?

jabbathebutt · 04/02/2021 19:51

"vac for good" or "take vac, and party"

(love TT too)

titsbumfannythelot · 04/02/2021 19:53

@jabbathebutt

"vac for good" or "take vac, and party"

(love TT too)

Actually I prefer take vac and party
Lockdownbear · 04/02/2021 20:11

Take vac and party sounds good but I think it's a wee bit early for it.

Fred, am I the only person who thinks, Wilma's Teirs? In a nod to the Flintstones?

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 04/02/2021 20:13

@jabbathebutt they were discussing that on Jeremy Vine the other day and someone asked the question 'so it's ok for low paid workers to lose their jobs for not taking the vaccine?' It doesn't seem fair when you put it that way. There is a high proportion of BAME people who work in care homes too, I believe.

WouldBeGood · 04/02/2021 20:29

Moved to tiers

Kiss the tiers away

jabbathebutt · 04/02/2021 20:32

@icanboogieboogiewoogie I'd rather they lost their job than lost a patient, especially if it was my loved one!

(and I have relatives who work in social care so I know its a tough and low paid job, they are vaccinated though)

Maybe some kind of fine or something. It can't go unaddressed!

jabbathebutt · 04/02/2021 20:33

good point @Lockdownbear maybe stick with vac for good then

MrsAmaretto · 04/02/2021 20:34

@NotAnActualSheep well that's not happening in my board. All external vaccinators are trained. We just don't have enough. And many aren't able to do the 8-8 shifts we require so then it's a rostering nightmare. Likewise the support staff - very few can commit to the 12 hour shifts. Staff are having to be releasd from existing services so theres an impact on everything.

We need a dedicated workforce to deliver this.

I don't understand why this wasn't fully planned centrally back in the summer ready for roll out whenever vaccines looked viable? Utter incompetence.

Vaccine supply seems to be an issue too.

jabbathebutt · 04/02/2021 20:44

MIL and FIL getting vacced next week. Both 65.

fuck me, this is going pretty well (in our area). I thought they'd still be on the 70 age group.

blowinahoolie · 04/02/2021 20:49

Have a relative who works in social care, recently married and wants to start a family. She is refusing the vaccine (fair enough). It's an individual choice, you never know the reason why someone is declining the invitation to go.

MissEliza · 04/02/2021 21:00

I agree with you. I work in a school and in addition to wanting to protect my family, I want to protect my pupils and their families. I'd do anything- which is why I'm sticking a swab two mornings a week - so I don't understand not having the vaccination when others are relying on you.

NCnotAllThat · 04/02/2021 21:08

You can’t force people to have a vaccination or fire them from their employment for refusing! Sorry I find that crazy talk. There are all sorts of reasons why people might refuse a vaccine (even if they technically can have it without medical issue). I don’t want to live in a society where I’m forced to take medication against my will just to keep my job. All we can hope is that the vast majority of people do take it.

(For record - I’m not anti vacc though have refused flu vaccine in past. I plan to take covid vacc when offered.)

WouldBeGood · 04/02/2021 21:09

I agree @NCnotAllThat

blowinahoolie · 04/02/2021 21:11

All very well and good if you have completed your family having strong views on wanting everyone who is medically well to take the vaccine but unfortunately if you have not completed your family it is too much of a gamble.

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/02/2021 21:12

I'm normally very "personal choice" with vaccines but I really don't know with this one. My understanding is that especially with Kent covid we need a very very high vaccine uptake to effectively keep the R below 1 - spread risks mutation. We cannot keep living like this.
