I walked past the Usher Hall in Edinburgh a few times on Saturday .

It's a big testing site and was completely deserted each time, apart from the two high viz bouncer people standing unnecessarily close to each other outside.

I appreciate we need to keep testing but perhaps we could throw some of the national effort and locations for vaccinations.

On vaccines, yesterday travelling tabby had 566K (ish) and today NS announced 575k (ish), so that's only about 9k done yesterday, which is well below the 24k or whatever benchmark, and definitely below where a "ramping up" would put us. I'm hoping the big centres start to make a difference, though I'm not sure how useful they will be for the vulnerable. The EICC is huge, for example, but there's really not much transport door to door, especially from outside Edinburgh itself, and bringing thousands of people into the same sweaty, enclosed venue to wait for their turn seems of dubious appeal at the moment. I'm sure they've thought it all through, though.

This is shocking, no doubt NS will be silent on the matter

She doesn't say but I'd reckon now that NS's video re transphobia was the test balloon, she tested the waters and saw that it would appeal to the youngest factions of her party, and of society. Never mind that JC has been hounded on social media as a transphobe for questioning self-ID.

It's ok to abuse women, but not people who say they are women.

It’s come to a head over trans stuff. This has resulted in the SNP NEC ignoring the legal advice of a QC to ensure their preferred candidates (themselves) to be put up for election as they are now allowed by this bizarre decision to self identify as disabled.

The NEC supports the Sturgeon faction. Together with this latest ignoring of legal advice and the definition of transphobia they are cooking up, I assume JC could not support it.

They're absolutely falling apart. Damnit, I honestly thought independence was coming closer, but they're going to fuck it all up. Independence isn't about them, it's about the country's future.

In home school news, DS has to write 10 questions for NS to answer (social subjects, politics in Scotland). I've had to take myself off to another room.

For some reason this reminds me of the time a caller phoned into live and kicking and asked five star why they were so effing sh1t. Perhaps your son could ask Ns this on my behalf?

Will see what she has to say tomorrow about more travel restrictions. It seems silly to open up areas like Edinburgh when numbers are low then allow thousands of people from high areas to travel there to work daily. My husband and me both travel to Edinburgh daily from Glasgow as do thousands of others and vice versa I don’t know what the answer is .

There actually is the possibility of NS coming on my final citizen's panel thing this week...

what, if anything, can JC do about this? Can she defend herself? Get any advice etc?

I've not seen anything questioning the announcement last week that we now have capacity for 65k tests - the most we have evet done I think was just over 30k and we average around 20k or less. I suspect the reason is that we've opened more "local" test sites but that could be matched with a reduction in capacity of some of the bigger ones?

But you can do if it gets you into a seat and also denies people who are disabled from standing - i'e. you can only stand in some if you are BAME and others if you are disabled so therefore denying folk the ability to stand in some seats if you are the "wrong" type of minority.

I also am hoping for firm dates for schools opening, and am hoping (probably futilely) for some year groups back in February.

I also feel they should 'reward' areas where cases have dropped very low, but in saying that, some areas, such as Kintyre, have been low this entire lockdown. They must be absolutely sick of it, it's bad enough being in lockdown if the stats in your local area are showing a covid surge, but must be despairing if they haven't.

Shocking re JC. Goodness knows I don't think much of many of them, but she seemed to me to be one of the good'uns. At least she has some principles and is very intelligent - the legal challenges on brexit for example were important at the time, and well made without excessive political point scoring (beyond the obvious...) . I know there is a fair amount of rivalry and infighting going on, but she seems a dangerous person to get on the wrong side of...
