Told my mum I want photos of the auspicious vaccine day tomorrow, DM says she feels like a lottery winner!

LetItGoGo · 04/02/2021 16:09

It's a big day out 2021 style!😂

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/02/2021 16:09

Those lothian stats are woeful. Can't use rural as the excuse here.

Sexnotgender · 04/02/2021 16:13

@StatisticallyChallenged

Those lothian stats are woeful. Can't use rural as the excuse here.
The army are apparently helping in Lothian now.
WouldBeGood · 04/02/2021 16:17

I think we on this thread should be in charge: we’ve been telling them for ages they needed to get organised 😂

Lockdownbear · 04/02/2021 16:40

Lanarkshire isn't much better nor could it be described as rural really.

kurtrussellsbeard · 04/02/2021 16:43

@Lockdownbear I honestly don't know. They build up to their exam day which is of course stressful but it's 8 days or so within a study period. Now every day could be an exam day and that's ongoing for weeks.

There are pros and cons I guess but it just seems such a high level of ongoing stress for them. Especially the Higher kids.

goodname · 04/02/2021 16:45

I wouldnt call Fife rural, it’s all easily accessible. We also have a lot of old people who have retired to various coastal villages, St. Andrews etc so can’t be a lack of old people. My grandparents have been vaccinated but they are almost 90 and it was only about a week ago. Pil in Perth are getting vaccinated tomorrow at the same time in different places 🙄
Pretty gutted we are doing so badly.
Feeling downright miserable today. Home learning is the pits, kids have lost all motivation, as have I, work is so boring and the school is messing us about again changing things so kids won’t even have access to their own teachers (to make it easier on the poor teachers who have children at home). Sadly noone is willing to make my job easier because I have children at home

goodname · 04/02/2021 16:46

Sorry that was a very grumpy post, I’m just feeling so crap

titsbumfannythelot · 04/02/2021 16:49

Do Fife, Lothian and Lanarkshire have younger populations? There are new towns in these areas which which would probably mean that's the case.

Lockdownbear · 04/02/2021 16:55

Oh no! Some kids will crack they are bound too.

The actual exams would be less stressful. But not matter what Highers are not the be all and end all. There's nearly always another road, might take longer but nearly always another road.

kurtrussellsbeard · 04/02/2021 16:57

Oh always and I many cases that other road is better! Hard telling teenagers or their parents that. And I totally understand that feeling!

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/02/2021 17:04

Edinburgh I think has a statistically young population

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/02/2021 17:11

Yeah - from wiki but they're normally fine for this kind of thing

"Edinburgh has a high proportion of young adults, with 19.5% of the population in their 20s (exceeded only by Aberdeen) and 15.2% in their 30s which is the highest in Scotland"

That said - if we have the vaccines and logistics are the limiting factor on how fast we can get them out, and there's no expected supply issues, then I'm not sure it makes sense for every region to go through the age/priority bands at the same pace. Different if there would only ever be a limited number of doses.

Coquohvan · 04/02/2021 17:12

We all get days like this @goodname it’ll be ok.

Here’s a breakdown of population area and median age per council @titsbumfannythelot in TravellingTabby search for your area.

Lockdownbear · 04/02/2021 17:13

I know I eventually too the other road to my degree, but not before failing my Highers Twice!

But yes I learned more on the back road than I would have on the motorway.

I'm convinced that a combination of college being more interesting / focused on what I wanted to do and different style of teaching got me there.
I never failed an exam or assessment at college or university.

Sootess · 04/02/2021 17:21

@StatisticallyChallenged You would think areas with less old people would be cracking on through the age bands quicker. Does this suggest they're all being made to go at pace of slowest? Hence Fife, Lothian have less % of population vaccinated

RaspberryCoulis · 04/02/2021 17:31

DD (15, and in S4) has been in tears all afternoon because she didn't do as well as expected in a maths test. Hardly surprising, since her teacher has been MIA since Christmas and one poor teacher has been trying to teach two groups at once. She's so down, and so upset and so utterly scunnered with everything that I have texted her friend's mum and asked if her DD would be up for coming over and spending some time with her tomorrow. It'll give her a much needed boost. Weather is so shite that she can't exactly go out for a walk with her.

shouldistop · 04/02/2021 17:46

@RaspberryCoulis I hope her friend comes over 🤞🏻
My 4yo hasn't played with anyone since Monday as the weather has been so bad. I'd love it if he could have a friend over but I'm not sure who I could invite that would be up for 'breaking the rules' Sad

jabbathebutt · 04/02/2021 17:55

Is it really likely that we will have all over 50s vaccinated by March or is that typical media wishful thinking? Surely as we move down the age groups, the numbers to vaccinate get higher. I also think older age groups would be more compliant too. I also think people forget they need a second jab so back to normal by summer doesn't sound right - will we all get our second dose by the summer? will we all attend for our second dose?

anon444877 · 04/02/2021 17:55

Do you have a friend that needs informal childcare shouldistop? It's so bad for them all this isolation.

Your poor dd raspberry - and hard to keep a sense of perspective when there's nothing else to do.

titsbumfannythelot · 04/02/2021 18:15

We're going to need another Fred soon

RaspberryCoulis · 04/02/2021 18:17

Friend's mum has agreed that getting our DDs together is a good plan. So she's coming over tomorrow. DD more animated than I've seen her in days and is planning a post-dinner trip to the supermarket for snacks.

My neighbours are not the curtain twitching types, so it's not like I'll have to sneak the poor girl into the house in a suitcase.

blowinahoolie · 04/02/2021 18:19

Fife has the Eastern Expansion in Dunfermline, which is now a ridiculous size so fair enough, with areas of Fife similar to this then it probably isn't so much as rural as when I grew up there years ago now Cis. I think it's quite full of young families buying new builds. The place is not how it used to look years ago.

MissEliza · 04/02/2021 18:28

@RaspberryCoulis good decision about your dd. I can't imagine how these dcs are feeling. How will they look back on their teenage years? I have great memories of being in S4 and S5. It's the stage when your dps are letting go. My best memories are spending hours shopping in Glasgow with my friends. I hope your dd (and mine) will be able to do normal stuff like that soon.
