Yeah the latest furlough end date is coming up fast, with the timeline first starting redundancy consultation even faster.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 04/02/2021 08:52

My PIL have both been vaccinated, late 70s but still not DF, albeit in his early 70s. Same LA. I don't think he's nearly as bothered as I am. Grin

jabbathebutt · 04/02/2021 08:55

when is the furlough end date and redundancy consultation dates?

Lockdownbear · 04/02/2021 08:58
@Lockdownbear schools will be back by then in a limited form, wonder if that will count as putting schools first 🤔
I think they'd cause riots if they count P1-3 and a handful of kids in S4-6 doing practical subjects as schools being open.

WouldBeGood · 04/02/2021 08:59

My dad still not done. I’ve contacted his MSP

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/02/2021 09:02

I think at the moment it's end April for furlough. For redundancy consultations it's a min of 30 days if you are looking at 20-99, 45 if it's 100+ redundancies. Most would probably want notice periods to land within furlough period too so you can probably add at least a couple of weeks to that too. So it's getting close

Perihelion · 04/02/2021 09:04

Furlough currently finishes the end of April. Redundancy consultation is 30 days for 20- 100 redundancies and 45 days for 100+.

Don't see lockdown restrictions being hugely lifted before Easter. Shops open maybe, but no hospitality and continued travel restrictions.

StarryEyeSurprise · 04/02/2021 09:15

Noooo was hoping to see me family in Easter. I think you may be right though if schools partially re opening end of Feb leads to an increase in cases ( for whatever reason).

blowinahoolie · 04/02/2021 09:18

"there’s talk of moving out of lockdown with the news that the vaccines stop transmission and serious illness."

Fantastic news to hear 😄 now we can see light at the end of the tunnel.

WouldBeGood · 04/02/2021 09:18

Increase in cases doesn’t matter though if the hospitals are managing, which they should be as the people who end up in them will be vaccinated.

rookiemere · 04/02/2021 09:20

I've given up on the idea of seeing family in England in near future. Hoping it might be possible for May half term, but have a fully cancellable cottage booked in the Scottish Borders as a halfway option.

I'd be really angry if they opened up hospitality etc before schools fully open. It would be exactly what they did end of August with n Scotland- said that schools were number one priority then opened up gyms whilst cases were already rising.

WouldBeGood · 04/02/2021 09:22

I really really want to gyms to open. Though I’m getting a second hand treadmill as by chance one came up for sale cheap!

No evidence of spread in gyms anyway; there was a massive Europe wide study on that.

LetItGoGo · 04/02/2021 09:22

The logic goes cases mean uncontrolled transmission mean more mutations. This will affect vaccine escape.

It's a case for door to door testing if asymptomatics in bad areas maybe? Then Paying people to stay off work. Rather than keeping everyone at home across the whole country.

rookiemere · 04/02/2021 09:29

Good news on the treadmill @WouldBeGood . I find it's just about possible to Mumsnet whilst on it Grin

AgentCooper · 04/02/2021 09:47

Gasping for the gym to open, but just for the swimming pool. I had a go on DH’s exercise bike in the shed and it felt like I was in fucking Siberia with freezing cold sweat sticking to every inch of my pasty body. I used to go to spin class at the gym where I work (university) but I am hellishly out of practice and can’t really be arsed getting into it again because I want to be swimming instead.

jabbathebutt · 04/02/2021 10:20

@AgentCooper you sound suspiciously like a friend of mine from your PP and I did suspect she was on these threads from some comments she has made!

Anyway, if redundancy consultations will need to start say mid march, then that may mean tier announcements or something around that time. Until then, we may stay as we are.

Rae36 · 04/02/2021 11:10

I've just had an online coffee with my mum who had lots of stories of friends of hers being jagged so it definitely feels to me like things are moving.

Lots of folk in their early 70s and a fair few late 60s also. My parents are 69 so not quite in the 70+ category but their gp surgery seems to be moving quite slowly in comparison to their friends. They've not heard a thing and neither has my aunt at their same surgery who's 73. My brother who was a shielder is getting his on Monday. Same gp surgery as my parents, so it all seems a bit random still.

But I guess every single person done reduces the overall risk by a tiny amount. When I spoke to my parents last week they hadn't heard of anyone even getting an appointment so a lot has definitely changed in a week.

I'll be so relieved when my parents are done, I'm almost holding my breath waiting.

Oh and my 88 yr old housebound mil with 4 x 2 carers in and out her house every day is still waiting for her home visit.

LetItGoGo · 04/02/2021 11:21

It's good to feel things are moving forwards, Rae.

jabbathebutt · 04/02/2021 11:31

DM just got invite to get a jag on her 69th bday. DF also got his on the same day (he's 68). They are doing it v quick now.

@jabbathebutt oh dear, you’ve got me intrigued! Grin do the initials GG mean anything to you?!

blowinahoolie · 04/02/2021 12:32

My folks are in their 70s, haven't heard a peep yet. I am sure they will get a letter in a matter of days. Best to keep positive as it's all picking up pace nowSmile

jabbathebutt · 04/02/2021 12:33

no they don't. Must be a coincidence then.
But I swear she works in a uni and posted very similar on facebook about spinning classes and using her DH's bike instead!

blowinahoolie · 04/02/2021 12:34

AgentCooper I have an exercise bike in my bedroom but haven't been on it for several months. Well done for braving the freezing cold outside on yours🥶 all for a good cause.

Looking forward to getting back into exercise every day once wee ones are back in nursery 👍 never been more ready.

titsbumfannythelot · 04/02/2021 12:36

Test positivity rate under 5% for first time in a month which is good news.

jabbathebutt · 04/02/2021 12:40

I've got mixed feelings to be honest

on one hand, I want my family protected via a vaccine. I want to go on holiday and do normal things.

on the other hand, I don't really ever want to go back to a workplace. I like being at home. And I especially don't want to go to a workplace where doing so means a face mask all day and standing 2m away for the rest of the year at least.

So I watch the figures with a mixture of relief and anxiety.
