According to The Times 3 days ago they said that 1m doses were available, however half were still frozen.

Travelling tabby shows that 649,000 had been administered.

kurtrussellsbeard · 03/02/2021 16:42

Thank you @Sweetpotatoaddict

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/02/2021 16:48

I know I'm cynical, but I think the only reason we are where we are is because someone thought we'd be able to do better than the other nations and then crow about it. Otherwise it could have been a UK wide national roll out.

OP posts:
kurtrussellsbeard · 03/02/2021 16:53

Is it just us going it alone? Have Wales and NI joined up with England for the rollout?

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 03/02/2021 16:56

Surely if that was the case there would be a UK-wide rollout excluding Scotland?

Dinnafashyersel · 03/02/2021 17:13

Health is Devolved in all the administrations.

I don't think it would be possible to manage the whole thing on a UK wide basis because all the various hospital and GP networks and databases are completely separate. Scottish Chi numbers (on your NHS GP registration card) don't work in England.

Wales does have historic links to some of the English infrastructure but it is managed separately now. NI also completely separate. This is why ONS and PHE can report England and Wales data but not NI and Scotland.

They are still trying to spin that they have done less vaccinations but their strategy is better. I'm honestly fed up of this constant need to be different and superior. I just feel for people who are sitting waiting for their jabs.
WaxOnFeckOff · 03/02/2021 17:22

I don't think anyone would have been unhappy for it to have been passed to army logistics to coordinate.

OP posts:
kurtrussellsbeard · 03/02/2021 17:24

That makes no sense.

diamondsandrose · 03/02/2021 17:30

@Sweetpotatoaddict

It seems a lot of people are ready and willing to immunise but not being utilised.

I also wonder if roll out through some areas is low at present is literally because the life expectancy is tragically lower than the priority criteria for the groups being vaccinated at present. Thus increasing healthcare inequality, its so sad.

Hadn't thought of that but I'm willing to bet you're correct. Terrible isn't it
MissEliza · 03/02/2021 17:36

I saw this on Twitter. These people have a massive chip on their shoulders. Does it not get boring?

Yes - might have made more sense to say we’d vax the eldest 10% of each health board or something.

Delighted to have the army actually stabbing people Grin

Waverless · 03/02/2021 17:39

That is really tragic - i had already sort of thought it coming from the other direction though, my in laws in their 80s, live in a fairly affluent part of England and I wondered if roll out was slower there because of this discrepancy.

Yup, The Glasgow Effect, which seemingly persists through to generations that manage to pull themselves up.Sad

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 03/02/2021 17:40

Bloody hell Miss not exactly a shining example of graceful diplomacy!

Waverless · 03/02/2021 17:41

Absolute cranks, and this petty one up manship, or attempts at it, will only get worse.

So pathetic.

Dinnafashyersel · 03/02/2021 17:43

Age demographics of Glasgow. It only has 38k over 75, so there would indeed be a mismatch with the priority list if you redirected to high prevalence areas.

However given Scotland is ageing faster than the rest of the UK I don't think it is the case that there are fewer old people in Scotland in general.

Interesting that roll out is rumoured to be slower in London relative to rest of England. Like Glasgow it has a relatively young population.

Being shouted at for my dinner so may come back to this later.

Lockdownbear · 03/02/2021 17:44

Naa don't make excuses for their F Up.
They mess up everything they touch but this is more difficult for them to hide.

If we have a lower percentage of over 90s or 80s that should have the opposite effect. Mean you hit the over 80s target quicker.

MissEliza · 03/02/2021 17:45

@Waverless what do you mean by the Glasgow effect?

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/02/2021 17:52

@misseliza the glasgow effect is essentially the low life expectancy/excess deaths in Glasgow which couldn't be readily explained with obvious comparison to other factors. There's a long doc on it here

www.gcph.co.uk/assets/0000/5988/Excess_mortality_final_report_with_appendices.pdf

Waverless · 03/02/2021 17:53

Well, it's west of Scotland really. The lower life expectancy can't just be explained away by deprivation. Possible epigenetic effect? I'm not in any way an expert, I'm sure others on this board are much more knowledgeable!

Sootess · 03/02/2021 18:03

But if you have fewer over 80s in an area they should be going through the age groups quicker.

I'm in Lothian and GPs doing all over 75s. I live in fairly "young" area so they finished the over 80s quickly and then moved onto 75-79 and are now virtually finished them . That's not same in areas with lots of elderly which are bit further behind.

StarryEyeSurprise · 03/02/2021 18:07

RD on the radio, talking as if the Tories own the army and are doing Scotland a favour by having 50 of our troops ready to vaccinate.

LetItGoGo · 03/02/2021 18:13

Don't torture yourself Starry.

kurtrussellsbeard · 03/02/2021 18:15

@StarryEyeSurprise 🤣it's absolutely tragic. She's stunningly manipulative when it comes to all the army bullshit is Baroness Davidson.

It's not like NS came out with that out of nowhere. I just missed this bit of FMQs but I'd put money on RD asking her question in the most snotty, high-handed and patronising way possible.
