@StarryEyeSurprise

RD on the radio, talking as if the Tories own the army and are doing Scotland a favour by having 50 of our troops ready to vaccinate.
It's the UK Army guys.

Army is part of the ministry of defence which isn't a devolved aspect so yes its a UK central government element although it appears to have been offered before but only just taken up.

I don't care where they come from army, NHS or volunteers when they say they currently have 9000 vaccinators they will require 17,000 vaccinators to be at full speed it's just too slow when NHS vaccinators are saying they are waiting to help out!

I also don't give a monkeys about tories vs snp or any other political party. We are in lock down til more people are vaccinated its in everyone's interests to go quickly!

MissEliza · 03/02/2021 18:20

@StatisticallyChallenged thank you for the link. I've had a quick skim. It's fascinating and depressing at the same time.

StarryEyeSurprise · 03/02/2021 18:23

Does anyone know what it means if someone's been vaccinated in terms of - is it safe to hug, be inside with them etc?
I won't be travelling until it's allowed so will be a while off but don't know how safe it is and I work in a school in a higher prevalence area.

titsbumfannythelot · 03/02/2021 18:27

I'd be happy to cuddle someone if they were vaccinated, less so if I was vaccinated but they weren't. Until I'd had a few sherries, in which case everyone is fair game for a cuddle.

WouldBeGood · 03/02/2021 18:28

Here are the percentage vaccination stats for the four nations. England 19.6% of population; Wales 18.3; NI 17.0; Scotland 14.6%

2nd doses looking woeful. England 463,000; Wales 25,155; NI 8,758; Scotland 1,160!

So the person receiving the jab is only fully protected 3 weeks after they have their second jab. Also depends on which jab the Oxford one does reduce transmission risk yes, Pfizer currently unclear. Either way currently shouldn't be hugging anyone not in your household at the moment. The first jab gives some protection after 2 weeks but not full protection and only to the person who has received it.

Lol, yeah I guess aswell I'm not clear on first vs second dose protection.

Will need to research. Will be so weird but also so nice being able to go into the home I was brought up in again.

Although I've just realised I can't do that really until my mum's vaccinated too so maybe Easter will still be when visits can happen.

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/02/2021 18:41

I think we've fallen behind more than 2% in a week.

Thanks Scottish

I'm in with kids and no SD and my parents don't go anywhere indoors so not worried about getting it from them.

So it'll need to 3 weeks after both have had both jags.

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/02/2021 18:42

According to BBC "As well as showing an effect on transmission, the study found the vaccine offered 76% effective protection from a single dose for three months." - this is for the Oxford AZ vaccine

Sexnotgender · 03/02/2021 18:44

My mum got her vaccine letter through. 67 and no underlying health conditions.

RaspberryCoulis · 03/02/2021 18:45

How can she stand there and have the brass neck to defend this? All this guff about "offered" versus "given" is just lies! How on EARTH can the SNP fangirls defend this?

WE ARE SLOWER THEN WE SHOULD BE. We are not speeding up quickly enough. We are doing fuck all on a Sunday and all she could say was "she;'s looking at it".

NOT
GOOD
ENOUGH.

RaspberryCoulis · 03/02/2021 18:48

Quote from BBC website:

"Scotland now needs to be vaccinating about 40,000 people per day to meet its target of giving the first jab to everyone aged 70 and over and those who are clinically extremely vulnerable by 15 February.

On Sunday, the Scottish vaccination figure was just 9,628."

WouldBeGood · 03/02/2021 18:54

@RaspberryCoulis it’s scandalous

goodname · 03/02/2021 18:56

So fed up tonight. My kids are p4 and p6 so obviously not going back to school anytime soon. However I was okay as they are getting in reasonably well with school, getting online lessons for maths at least. We had a lot of stress getting these sorted out last week, sorted out devices etc and it was just settling in to work really well. Then tonight we get an email from the school saying it’s too tough for the school so they won’t be doing them anymore. I have sent a message back saying it is too tough for me to teach fractions so i won’t be doing it either!
We are basically just going back to worksheets after all this time. It’s not good enough in p6! He’s missed loads of learning now and with having dyslexia he’s always struggles to catch up. I just worry how he’s going to cope with high school in a years time. How can they catch them all up in time?

goodname · 03/02/2021 18:57

Plus the next school along the road is doing online classes between every morning for three hours. Unequal provision in same council area means some kids will be way more disadvantaged than other

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 03/02/2021 18:59

I just feel so flat. We should be feeling so hopeful. Watching the amount of jabs being done and using that to pull on the last bit of strength to get to the end of the month. Instead it's constant doom and gloom in the daily briefing and poor performance on vaccines it's shite and makes it harder to support the restrictions

WouldBeGood · 03/02/2021 19:03

I’m finding it really annoying that the other nations will be free before us!

Wasn't yesterday's figure 40k+? I can't remember exactly but I think that's what was given today as the figure (ish).
NCnotAllThat · 03/02/2021 19:04

I’m getting so sick of SG and NS trying to make this into a “beat the English” thing. It’s horrible and I’m totally ashamed that our govt is making us Scots out to be so petty. I’m embarrassed.

The quarantine thing is just a “f-u” to Boris and a public way to say she doesn’t agree (also think he didn’t lock borders quickly enough first time around so not saying he’s any decent either!) Realistically how many Flights and passengers are arriving into Scotland daily from places not already under uk overall rules? Hardly any. This is show boating and saying to Boris he should be doing more rather than just state it. This quarantine will have almost zero impact on any covid spreading as people desperate to travel will go via England and drive/train/bus up to Scotland.

Then what she said about the Army is just poor. I do understand her point that it’s the UK army so Scotland is also entitled to their assistance but her way of putting is is terrible. She’s have been better off saying that Scotland was going to make use of the UK wide resource of the army alongside our devolved nhs but then that would hint that sometimes Scotland actually does need the UK banner and a military.

I’m worried there isn’t enough knowledge on the vaccine roll out failures (even I’m not that up to date I feel!). I spoke to my FIL earlier with no known snp loyalties (I’m not sure he votes for independence or not) and he was saying NS was doing a good job then when I said roll out was slow he said “but we didn’t have any vaccines” yes we did. We had our proper share correct? So he’s quite intelligent and not a big snp loyalist yet still buying the line that our roll out is slower because Scotland wasn’t given the vaccines to jab!! I’m very worried for the May vote and whether she’ll have huge uptake and massive majority due to people thinking she’s better than Boris and then she’ll read that as a go for indyref2.

Admittedly I was even wondering myself a few months ago whether I would vote independence and I did think I really might if the vote was right then because j felt Ns was handling covid much better than Westminster at that time. Now I’m totally 180’d again following her relentless talk of independence referendums and the “better than England” narrative. It’s really put me off her and voting snp. I never have in past and was going to switch but not now.

I also hope the papers and media start to give proper opinions of her and the snp policies rather than all this favourable coverage constantly. I’m worried for Scotland come May (also annoyed election going ahead in person when we are in position we are in).

WouldBeGood · 03/02/2021 19:07

I’m so annoyed by this I’ve put it on my Facebook. People should know.

NCnotAllThat · 03/02/2021 19:12

Sorry I forgot one of my main point which was that FIL and MIL haven’t been called up 65-69 age range get quite a lot of their same ages friends plus one 63 year old have (no underlying health issues) in same council area but different gp practices. None of us are worried as I’d say it’s relatively early still for the 65-69 ages. Other extreme is my dear DF who is 78 and hasn’t heard a word! Different area nearer glasgow and much higher rate of cases and get nothing for him (he’s totally with it and checks mail and def hasn’t missed a call and he said a lot of similar aged neighbours haven’t been given appointments yet either). Seems too many variances throughout country right now.
