@StarryEyeSurprise

Who said Boris caused the outbreak? I'm in the hub and we were reading the papers on our break and we feels it's really poor that he visited a lab for a photoshoot despite the fact there were known cases there. He's also then visited other places. I've now looked at lunch time and the fact it's been reported as anti English says more about the other person than it does about me. I must admit it's given me and my PSA a bit of a giggle- the responses are a tad extreme to say the least! Anyway, you all clearly have different views on the situation and that's fine. 👍
Aaaah. You mean from an onward transmission point of view. Fair point. He and everyone else would have had a shed load of ppe, so I'd doubt he'd have been a transmission risk assuming that was disposed etc properly. The lab wasn't closed because of the outbreak, so it must have been considered safe to continue operating and doing its routine essential stuff, so I suppose it hinges on whether what he was doing was "essential" . I agree with you that I don't think the visit specifically was, really, though I accept such visits are an important part of his (much as I hate to admit it, essential) job that couldn't be done from home, so permitted under the Scottish regs. So maybe not the best decision, but it doesn't make me think any worse of him than I do already...

@runningpink

Just received a text from a friend who declared they think it’s ridiculous that we have to stay in lockdown just so kids can go back to school!!

I actually have no words to respond to that one! 😡🙄

Err........ we're all staying home to break trains of transmission of virus and relieve the strain on hospitals. Schools going back is first step in easing restrictions!! Bit worrying some people STILL don't get this Hmm
NotAnActualSheep · 03/02/2021 13:33

@Scottishskifun

I'm watching question time..... Nicola directly dodged the question on accepting support and said vaccination programme is making good progress but said continue to work with others..... So I take that as a no Angry
It is frustrating. Granted 38,000 doses in a day is pretty good given where we were last week. I think there was a need to get to 40000 to meet some target (the mid Feb one?), so we're nearly at that (though that may have increased now we've been lagging for so long). But surely if there is the chance to get it done more quickly, and the offer is there, why not take it? It's not a competition...
WaxOnFeckOff · 03/02/2021 13:35

Ian Blackford accused Mr Johnson of putting “politics before public health”.

Noted .

Still your move Nicola...

Nobody's asked Nicola about the LSE analysis just released about the cost of Indy being 2-3 x more than brexit AND not mitigated by EU membership presumably...

Saw JL this morning on breakfast tv and he really didn't answer the question about someone flying into Newcastle and driving to Stirling - but I stopped listening part way through his rambling as he irritates me so much !

WouldBeGood · 03/02/2021 14:04

@Dinnafashyersel

Tbf the M8/M9/M74 trunk routes work much better than the M25 and its spokes. I once was misguided enough to go from Brighton to Canterbury along the coast - 2 hours late for lunch. My inlaws live right next to Heathrow (if you look at a map) but the quickest / cheapest route is to get the tube into Central London and back out again. I can get to either Glasgow or Edinburgh airport quicker by car or public transport.
Try getting to rural Dumfries and Galloway by public transport! Even by road it’s a massive fanny to get anywhere.

And you have to go via England for most long haul.

Scotland had great points, but transport infrastructure is not one of them

WouldBeGood · 03/02/2021 14:07

I agree with others that we should be biting the hand off anyone offering to help with vaccine roll out.

It’s really depressing that she can’t accept gracefully and enthusiastically.

WouldBeGood · 03/02/2021 14:12

Oh! News! The Army are to help, starting tomorrow 😊

This pleases me. I really don't care how we get the job done, so long as it gets done. Mon the army!

This is great to see but why did they not just say this today and surely there is more than 80 which can be deployed? Would say its a great start in the right direction but more still needed.

Hate that politics has factored in so much to public health and getting people vaccinated.

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/02/2021 14:47

About bloody time too. I'd like to see more than 80, but it's a good start. It sounds like they will be directly administering too in which case that's a non trivial input.

For example, the CDC has some info on vaccination clinics - they reckon a clinic with 4 stations, 8 people per shift, over two shifts so 16 hours operation, can vaccinate around 1900 people per day. 80 army personnel could therefore potentially be doing nearly 10k per day on that model. And I've assumed 8 hour days - I wouldn't be surprised if they do more.

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/02/2021 14:47

Now we've not to see help from the armed forces as a favour because we pay for them too - dear god, will she give it a fucken rest.

fluffyugg · 03/02/2021 14:49

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 yes...if we are now confident that the vaccines stop transmission and if getting schools back is really the main priority then pull out all the stops and get every adult vaccinated as soon as possible.

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/02/2021 14:50

So why the fuck had we not called them in before then??

Because we're petulant twats?
StatisticallyChallenged · 03/02/2021 14:52

Well indeed. I may join you in spiky corner...

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 03/02/2021 14:53

We had - I posted here about three weeks ago to an article that said the army was helping to stand up vaccination centres in Fife. They may have helped elsewhere but it was a Fife newspaper - I'd imagine if they were being utilised in Fife they were elsewhere too.

I hope it's a big corner.

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/02/2021 14:58

Clearly they had more availability to help which wasn't being utilised - for whatever reason. These are additional bodies being deployed so either a) it's not a favour, they were ours anyway and we just weren't using them - see "why the fuck not" or b) they are a favour in which case the word she's after is "thanks" or c) we'd asked and been refused the help- but I'm damn sure we'd have heard about that

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/02/2021 14:59

Big enough to social distance in @WaxOnFeckOff

anon444877 · 03/02/2021 14:59

Those armed forces that are helping, the same ones they aren't planning to pay for in the glorious golden future?
