@WaxOnFeckOff have they offered help?!

That's excellent, if NS refuses it will look like she cares more about politics than our lives and if she accepts she'll be admitting we need England.
Yep they have apparently for the second time as well......

"Scotland Secretary Alister Jack has written to Ms Sturgeon, restating the UK government's "full support in rolling out the vaccination programme and fighting the pandemic across the whole country".

LetItGoGo · 03/02/2021 12:12

If vaccines are being seen to reduce transmission maybe they should concentrate them on greater Glasgow?

(Am I right that SG had reduced their vaccine target for January ? 1 million down to 500k?)

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 03/02/2021 12:14

He's the prime minister not Dr fucking Who
GrinGrinGrin

We’re lagging terribly behind with vaccinations they should take every offer of help or they’ll get the closed border they dream of to keep our unvaxed population out of Vader England!

Peppafrig · 03/02/2021 12:16

So Boris Johnson is responsible for an outbreak at somewhere before he even got there. They are going to have to try harder than that one .

Groovee · 03/02/2021 12:19

So if Boris gets ill again, we know where he caught it from!

Tomorrowisanewday · 03/02/2021 12:20

My dad messaged this morning to say he and my mum are getting their vaccination tomorrow. I was starting to worry, he's 79 and they hadn't been contacted up til yesterday - despite what he says, he doesn't always hear the phone, and I worried they'd missed the phone call. He's too stubborn to get a hearing aid Grin

Yes, the news the AZ vaccine (at least) reduces transmission is great!

I think it was assumed it probably would, but to have that confirmed is brilliant, and suggests that the more people who have it, the less likely the remaining people are to become infected (so those who can't be vaccinated because of allergies or whatever). And, yes, it does bring into consideration things like focusing on the areas of highest transmission to try to bring that down, as well as "risky" workplaces like factories, manufacturing, supermarkets, universities etc. Possibly schools if there is permission for older children to be vaccinated too.

Coquohvan · 03/02/2021 12:24

@LetItGoGo yes halved her original target.
Well well well let’s see what NS does now. For the benefit of Scottish people take the help I say

StarryEyeSurprise · 03/02/2021 12:33

Who said Boris caused the outbreak? I'm in the hub and we were reading the papers on our break and we feels it's really poor that he visited a lab for a photoshoot despite the fact there were known cases there. He's also then visited other places.
I've now looked at lunch time and the fact it's been reported as anti English says more about the other person than it does about me. I must admit it's given me and my PSA a bit of a giggle- the responses are a tad extreme to say the least!
Anyway, you all clearly have different views on the situation and that's fine. 👍

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/02/2021 12:37

Yes the reduced transmission makes a huge difference. It will make future lockdown less likely as even where cases occur it will be much less able to spread

deliberate shit stirring as some details/facts were left out of your PP. typical goady anti english SNP shite.

Dr Who Grin

Brilliant move by Alistair Jack though! What will she do/say? Maybe she'll accept but on the quiet?

Dinnafashyersel · 03/02/2021 12:43

But if they had said this we going to be 2 months for nursery kids and 3-4 for school parents could plan. Families could sort bubbles and help appropriately.

Half suspect this is WHY they don't give a timeframe. I have several friends who have dabbled in HE and have the capacity to do it. If we got together we could make our lives much easier but it would be seen as a massive abuse of the rules.

If this goes on much longer there is a real risk that people will start to withdraw from State education (for primary at least) altogether. This would extremely bad for social cohesion and in a lot of cases schools would lose a lot of support from parents and children with this sort of capacity available.

RaspberryCoulis · 03/02/2021 12:46

Ruth trying to get stuck into her lies but she's brazening it out. "Nothing to see here, we're doing fine, better than England in fact, we don't need help".

What a load of utter bollox.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 03/02/2021 12:46

What I would really like to know is they can have their plans with quarantine and phased returns for schools etc but surely now the vaccine has been proven to stop transmission it should be a case of give us a month we get as many their first does as possible and then we open? Am I really missing something here?

Scottishskifun · 03/02/2021 12:47

I'm watching question time..... Nicola directly dodged the question on accepting support and said vaccination programme is making good progress but said continue to work with others..... So I take that as a no Angry

Dinnafashyersel · 03/02/2021 12:53

Tbf the M8/M9/M74 trunk routes work much better than the M25 and its spokes. I once was misguided enough to go from Brighton to Canterbury along the coast - 2 hours late for lunch. My inlaws live right next to Heathrow (if you look at a map) but the quickest / cheapest route is to get the tube into Central London and back out again. I can get to either Glasgow or Edinburgh airport quicker by car or public transport.

RaspberryCoulis · 03/02/2021 12:54

Go Jackie Bailie. She's got so much more "oomph" about her than Richard Leonard.

Scottishskifun · 03/02/2021 12:54

I have generally thought that the Scottish government has done very well in this pandemic and actually had praise for Nicola Sturgeons response on the whole (a few exemptions aside). But I'm very saddened and angry that politics, a election and potential referendum comes before getting people vaccinated so we can get out of this horrible situation as soon as possible.

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/02/2021 13:00

Now that there is confirmation that AZ significant reduces transmission then getting it in to as many people as possible is even more essential. This dilly dallying greater depth pish is not good enough.

LetItGoGo · 03/02/2021 13:04

Well yes.
I've broached the subject in real life and been shot down as wrong for thinking our rollout is slower than the rest of the UK.

Sturgeon's certainly doing well on messaging! I think my DH might notice if it carries on as a 50 odd year old. Any difference will be magnified at that stage.

I keep hoping the bigger hubs will pick it up shortly..

LetItGoGo · 03/02/2021 13:06

Or that we just aren't very good at collating the numbers!

RaspberryCoulis · 03/02/2021 13:12

The problem is that there are a lot of people who just believe everything Sturgeon says. No questioning at all. She could tell you it was 30c outside and sun splitting the streets and there'd be people walking around wonder why they have hypothermia because Nicola said it was warm.

runningpink · 03/02/2021 13:20

Just received a text from a friend who declared they think it’s ridiculous that we have to stay in lockdown just so kids can go back to school!!

I actually have no words to respond to that one! 😡🙄

Lockdownbear · 03/02/2021 13:24

Running pink - Gawd knows how peoples brains think.

I'd let her dig deeper. "What would you open up before schools?"
